A Case Study on the Role of LED Lighting at the Residential Space

  • Due to the development of technology, the modern people became to require not only more convenient life but also more comfortable and emotional environment, and individually suitable living environment is applied to residents in a residential space. Recently, while the LED lighting was variously attempted in every sector in society, it is needed to express differentiated lighting according to the resident's individual lifestyle in a residential space. In this paper, we analyze the role of LED lighting suitable for the digitalized lifestyle of the modern people through the relevant literature survey and case studies. The following results are obtained in summary of the rapidly changed recent trends of LED lighting. First, LED light replace existing light sources due to the advanced new technology in LED industry, and take the spotlight as a new lighting solution with the development of variable color LED bulb and the control technology by the wired and wireless communications. Second, LED lighting can be structurally applicable to every lighting device because of its compact and lightweight units, can produce abundant light environment by expression of variable colors and moods with the easy coloring and dimming control, can be reborn as emotional lighting design. Third, as recently practices are constantly appeared that integrate LED lights in the interior elements, such as object and furniture, and combine advanced LED lighting technology to new materials, the portion of illumination on the indoor environment is further increased after integrating the LED lighting and interior elements make boundaries of lighting and product architecture become blurred. LED lighting is confirmed that is being changed from the external functionality including material, shape, color, and etc. into the contextual emotion design including the lights expression, variable color, brightness control, making image, and etc. as the light source in current smart lighting era.

LED 광원의 눈부심 현상을 감소시키기 위한 표면 실장형 CR 렌즈 개발 (Development of Surface-mount-type Crown-shaped Lens for Reducing Glare Effect of Light-emitting Diode Light Source)

  • This paper introduces the use of a crown-shaped (CR) lens to effectively diffuse the light from a light-emitting diode (LED) without any loss in the light intensity, in contrast to polymer-bulb-type diffusers. The diffusion lens was designed based on the Snell's law, which describes the physical path of a ray passing through the boundary between different media. CR lenses were fabricated by polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) casting and UV-embossing processes, which used a pre-designed metal mold and UV-curable resin, respectively. Through experiments and optical evaluations, it was verified that the newly proposed CR lens not only decreased the vertical light strength and glare effect from an LED light source but also improved the diffusion characteristics while maintaining the quality of the LED's light intensity.

  • 다기능성 복합센서의 모듈로 구성된 신호처리시스템에서 사용자 정보 및 상황을 실시간 인지하여 조명환경 및 생활환경을 분석할 수 있는 LED 디지털제어 융합기술이 주목을 받고 있다. LED 조명은 고효율, 장수명, 친환경적 장점과 나아가 LED 조명과 통신의 융합이 가능하며, 백열등 및 형광등을 대체할 차세대 일반조명으로 각광받고 있다. 제안된 시스템은 태양광을 이용한 지능형 LED 제어 시스템으로서, 사용자 예측 정보/상황 연계형 조명제어 기술 및 이에 따른 절감기술에 관한 연구이다. 또한 방전 전류의 10%를 주위의 환경에 따라서 보조 유색 LED를 적절히 점등함으로서 감성조명을 구현하고자 한다.

LED-Equipped Y-Maze Chamber에 대한 긴털가루응애 성충의 방제효과 (Controlling Tyrophagus putrescentiae Adults in LED-Equipped Y-Maze Chamber)

  • 긴털가루응애 성충을 청색(470 nm), 녹색(520 nm), 황색(590 nm)과 적색(625 nm) light-emitting diode (LED)에서 파장별 광량을 20, 40 및 60 lx로 달리하여 주광성 행동반응 판별장치(LED-equipped Y-maze chamber)에서 상업적 양성대조구 BLB와 유인활성을 비교하였다. 긴털가루응애는 사용된 청색, 녹색, 황색 및 적색 LED 파장과 20, 40 및 60 lx 광량에서 특별한 행동반응특성을 발견하지 못하였으며, 양성대조구로 이용된 BLB에서도 긴털가루응애는 음성/양성주광성 반응을 보이지 않았다. 이러한 결과를 근거로 긴털가루응애는 LED 주광성 행동반응 판별장치에서는 친환경적 해충방제 가능성을 제시하지 못했다.

신호의 안전성 향상을 위한 교통신호기와 LED신호등의 연계 특성 개선 방안 연구 (A Study on Local Standard Complement Between the LED Signal Head and Traffic Controller for Improving Signal Safety)

  • 본 논문에서는 기존의 전구방식 신호등과 비교하여 LED신호등의 교통신호기 간 신호 안전성 측면의 연계 호환성을 실험 검토하고 보완 방안을 설계하여 제안하였다. 실험 분석 결과 신호의 안전성을 향상하기 위하여, 교통신호기의 출력 누설전류에 따른 LED신호등의 OFF 상태 누설전압의 과다로 인한 문제와, 누전상황 대응에 대한 문제에 대하여 보완이 필요한 것으로 나타났다. 보완을 위한 교통신호기 규격의 개선 방안은 220V 전원을 기준으로 출력 누설전류 허용 값을 기존의 8mA사양에서 3mA로 변경하고, 출력전압 평가의 기준을 기존의 25-45V에서 65-75V로 변경하는 것이며, LED신호등 규격의 개선 방안은 기존과 동일하게 95V이하에서 OFF상태를 유지하도록 함에 더하여 OFF상태에서 10Kohm이내의 임피던스를 유지하도록 하는 내용을 추가하는 것이다.

  • 본 논문에서는 고휘도의 광원에 의한 눈부심 방지와 야간 교통사고예방을 위해 LED와 조도 센서를 이용한 디밍 기술을 사용하여 저 전력 안전지향 보도블록을 구현하였다. 본 논문의 디밍 시스템은 눈부심을 방지하기 위하여 눈에 피로도가 적은 전구색을 사용하였고, 6.10Wh 전력이 소모되었다. 또한, 기존 시스템과 비교하였을 때 약 56.9%의 전력이 절감되는 것을 확인하였다.

Phototactic behavior 9: phototactic behavioral response of Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) to light-emitting diodes of seven different wavelengths

  • The phototactic behavioral responses of Tribolium castaneum adults to light-emitting diodes (LEDs) of seven different wavelengths were determined under various conditions (light exposure times, light sources, and luminance intensities) and compared with those of a black light bulb (BLB) under laboratory conditions. Based on the attractive rate (%) of T. castaneum adults under optimal conditions (50 lx and an 48 h exposure time) in the dark, red LED ($625{\pm}10nm$) exhibited the highest potential attractive rate (97.8 %), followed by yellow ($590{\pm}5nm$, 68.9 %), green ($520{\pm}5nm$, 55.6 %), infrared (IR) (730 nm, 54.4 %), white (450-620 nm, 41.1 %), blue ($470{\pm}10nm$, 34.4 %), and ultraviolet (UV) (365 nm, 0.06 %) LEDs. In comparison, red LED (97.8 %) was approximately 3.4 times more attractive to T. castaneum adults than the BLB (28.9 %). These results indicate that a red LED trap could be useful to control T. castaneum adults.

Influence of Stocking Density with Different Light System on the Growth Performance and Behavior in Broiler Chickens

  • This study evaluated the effects of stocking density on performance and behavioral activities of 35-day-old broilers in relation to incandescent white bulb (IB) light and LED yellow and white light. A total of 1,650 day-old chicks were weighed and randomly allocated into six treatment groups in a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement based on stocking density (14 birds m-2 and 22 birds m-2) and color of lights (IB; monochromatic LED yellow and white light) with five replicates for each treatment. The results showed that final body weight, weight gain and feed conversion of broilers were improved at a stocking density of 14 birds m-2 with exposure to LED lights. Similarly, broilers spent more time exhibiting inactive behavior (e.g. standing) and active behaviors (e.g. walking and walking plus pecking) under 14 birds m-2 with exposure to lights as compared that of other treatment groups. Regarding a stocking density of 22 birds m-2, broilers performance traits were negatively affected and also activities were less. The performance of broilers was not significantly altered for the main factor of different lights but broilers were less inactive (e.g less time spent sitting plus standing) and more time spent active behavior in walking under IB light than LED light. Thus, we concluded that a stocking density 14 birds m-2 with exposure to LED light significantly improved broiler performance and behavioral activity and these conditions could therefore improve the overall welfare of farmed chickens.

자동차용 헤드램프의 플라스틱 소재 Haze 저감 방법에 관한 연구 (A study on method for reducing haze defects of head lamp for automobiles)

  • In this study, the cause of the decrease in transmittance of the outer lens among the causes of the decrease in the amount of light in the automobile headlamp was identified, and the improvement method was selected to determine the effect. The causes of defects that lower the transmittance of the outer lens are divided into a moisture problem and a haze problem. The moisture problem is caused by the temperature difference between the inside and the outside of the head lamp, and the haze problem occurs when the heat inside the head lamp evaporates the haze component contained in the plastic material and attaches it to the outer lens. In order to improve the haze problem that occurs in plastic raw materials, the structures of the bulb light source type headlamp and the LED chip light source type headlamp were analyzed. Among them, the housing material of the LED chip light source type headlamp, which is structurally prone to haze gas, was selected as the test target. In the mass-production injection process of the housing, the drying process was selected as a method to minimize haze gas without adding a separate production process. After extracting a sample every drying time at a constant drying temperature, the sample was put into a haze tester and the residual amount of haze gas was measured. As a result, it was confirmed that the residual amount of Haze gas in the material decreased as the drying time increased.

Spirulina platensis NIES 39를 이용한 LED 광생물반응기에서의 이산화탄소 고정화와 광원 효과 (Carbon Dioxide Fixation and Light Source Effects of Spirulina platensis NIES 39 for LED Photobioreactor Design)

  • Spirulina platensis NIES 39의 최적 배양 조건을 확립하고자 본 연구에서는 여러 광원에 따른 균체의 생장양상을 확인하여 보았다. 이를 기반으로 형광등 및 LED 광생물반응기를 개발하여 균체농도 증가, 이산화탄소 고정화속도 및 효율, 클로로필 생산에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 배양에 공급되는 이산화탄소 농도 및 유속은 명 조건에서 약 4 h 주기로 10 min간 5% $CO_2$, 0.1 vvm임이 확인되었다. 내부조사형 형광등 광원 및 저전력형 SMD 타입 적색광 LED 광생물반응기는 최대 배양 건조 균체량이 1.411 g/L를 넘지 못하였지만, 조도를 높인 파워형 적색광 LED (색온도 12000 K)에서는 최대 건조 균체량이 1.758 g/L가 되었다. 이 경우 이산화탄소 고정화 속도 및 효율 또한 증가되었다. 총 클로로필 생산량은 균체량 증가에 비례하여 증가하였지만, 건조균체질량당 생산량은 청색광 LED조건(색온도 7500 K)에서 더 높은 수치를 보여주었다. 그리고 최대 균체생장조건(DCW)에서 이산화탄소 농도는 주입량(5% $CO_2/Air$, v/v) 대비 유실률은 0.15% 이내로 확인되었다.
