  • In this paper, using the theory of majorization, we discuss the Schur m power convexity for L-conjugate means of n variables and the Schur convexity for weighted L-conjugate means of n variables. As applications, we get several inequalities of general mean satisfying Schur convexity, and a few comparative inequalities about n variables Gini mean are established.

  • Let T ${\in}$ L(X), S ${\in}$ L(Y), A ${\in}$ L(X, Y) and B ${\in}$ L(Y, X) such that SA = AT, TB = BS, AB = S and BA = T. Then S and T shares the same local spectral properties SVEP, Bishop's property (${\beta}$), property $({\beta})_{\epsilon}$, property (${\delta}$) and and subscalarity. Moreover, the operators ${\lambda}I$ - T and ${\lambda}I$ - S have many basic operator properties in common.

  • In the present study, the third-order shear deformation theory (TSDT) is presented to investigate time-dependent thermo-elastic creep behavior and life assessment of rotating thick cylindrical shells with variable thickness made of 304L austenitic stainless steel (304L SS). The cylindrical shells are subjected to non-uniform internal pressure, distributed temperature field, and a centrifugal body force due to rotating speed. Norton's law is used to describe the material creep constitutive model. A system of differential equations in terms of displacement and boundary conditions is derived by employing the minimum total potential energy principle based on TSDT. Then, the resulting equations are solved as semi-analytically using the multilayered method (MLM), which leads to an accurate solution. Subsequently, an iterative procedure is also proposed to investigate the stresses and deformations at different creep times. Larson-Miller Parameter (LMP) and Robinson's linear life fraction damage rule are employed to estimate the creep damages and the remaining life of cylindrical shells. In this research, the creep model uses Norton's law, LMP, and Robinson's approach which is the most accurate and reasonable model. To the best of the researcher's knowledge, in the previous studies, there is no study carried out on third-order shear deformation theory for thermo-elastic creep analysis and life assessment of thick cylinders with variable thickness. The results obtained from the multilayered approach are compared and validated with those determined from the finite element method (FEM) to confirm the accuracy of the suggested method based on TSDT and very good agreement is found. The results indicate that the present analysis is accurate and computationally efficient.

  • Intermolecular interactions were studied for binary mixtures of 2-propanol + cyclohexane, n-hexane, benzene, toluene, o-, m- and p-xylenes by measuring ultrasonic speeds (u) over the entire range of composition at 298.15 K and 308.15 K. From these results the deviation in ultrasonic speed was calculated. These results were fitted to the Redlich-Kister equation to derive the binary coefficients along with standard deviations between the experimental and calculated data. Acoustic parameters such as excess isentropic compressibility ($K_s^E$), intermolecular free length ($L_f$) and available volume ($V_a$) were also derived from ultrasonic speed data and Jacobson's free length theory. The ultrasonic speed data were correlated by Nomoto's relation, Van Dael's mixing relation, impedance dependence relation, and Schaaff's collision factor theory. Van Dael's relation gives the best prediction of u in the binary mixtures containing aliphatic hydrocarbons. The ultrasonic speed data and isentropic compressibility were further analyzed in terms of Jacobson's free length theory.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the complementary idea of the psychological elements in aesthetic expression of architectural space in the sense of healing. Marks $L\ddot{u}scher$, the swiss psychologist suggested reasonable categories of emotional character according to the couple combinations among Content, Self-Esteem, Confidence, and Liberty. His theory on healing is not only the concept but the practical method to understand and control the conflict between contrary elements of emotion. Compared to the Freud's objective theory of cause and consequence, his idea is focused on the subjective and autonomous harmony. This theory based on complementary idea is applied to psychological attitude of architects on Spatial Expression in this study. Refuge, Prospect, Flow and Void are assumed as equivalent spatial elements to the four major emotional conditions suggested by $M.L\ddot{u}scher$. The couple combinations among them also characterize the architectural characters definitely and it is expected to be the reasonable criteria in analysing aesthetic value and motive of creating human space.

  • Yield and fracture are separated in the tensile failure of paper. Failure in the machine direction of photocopy paper is contrasted with failure in the cross-machine direction . The ratios of distortion (shape change) to dilatation (volume change) for individual elements at yield and fracture are described. The ratios of distortion to dilatation are measured and compared to predicted values of the strain energy density theory. To evaluate the effect of the angle from the principal material direction on the strain energy density theory. To evaluate the effect of the angle from the principal material direction on the strain energy density factor, samples are prepared from machine direction to cross-machine direction in 15 degree intervals. the strain energy density of individual elements are obtained by the integration of stress from finite element analysis with elastic plus plastic strain energy density theory. Poison's ratio and the angle from the principal material direction have a great effect ion the ratio fo distortion to dilatation in paper. During the yield condition, distortion prevails over dilatation . At fracture, dilatation is at a maximum.

  • As delineating market areas of retail businesses has become an interesting topic in marketing field, Lee and Lee recently suggested a noteworthy method, which applied the hydrological analysis of geographical information system (GIS), based on Christaller's central place theory. They used a digital elevation model (DEM) which inverted the kernel density of retail businesses, which was measured by using bandwidths of pre-determined 500, 1000 and 5000 m, respectively. In fact, their method is not a fully data-based approach in that they used pre-determined kernel bandwidths, however, this paper has been planned to improve Lee and Lee's method by using a kind of data-based approach of the L-index that describes clustering level of point feature distribution. The case study is implemented to automobile-related retail businesses in Seoul, Korea with selected Kernel bandwidths, 1211.5, 2120.2 and 7067.2 m from L-index analysis. Subsequently, the kernel density is measured, the density DEM is created by inverting it, and boundaries of market areas are extracted. Following the study, analysis results are summarized as follows. Firstly, the L-index can be a useful tool to complement the Lee and Lee's market area analysis method. At next, the kernel bandwidths, pre-determined by Lee and Lee, cannot be uniformly applied to all kinds of retail businesses. Lastly, the L-index method can be useful for analyzing the space structure of market areas of retail businesses, based on Christaller's central place theory.

  • A local alignment algorithm does comparing two strings and finding a substring pair with size l and similarity s. To find a pair with both sufficient size and high similarity, existing normalization approaches maximize the ratio of the similarity to the size. In this paper, we introduce normalization by functions that maximizes f(s)/g(l), where f and g are non-decreasing functions. These functions, f and g, are determined by experiments comparing DNA sequences. In the experiments, our normalization by functions finds appropriate local alignments. For the previous algorithm, which evaluates the similarity by using the longest common subsequence, we show that the algorithm can also maximize the score normalized by functions, f(s)/g(l) without loss of time.

  • The efficient breakwater design requires a knowledge of the behaviour of the waves passing the breakwater. Wave Diffraction is an important factor and phenomeon in this behaviour. The diffraction ocean waves entering a gap in a breakwater normal to the incident wave direction in water of uniform depth has been investigated, applying a solution previously given in the author's paper, based on the theory of light diffraction by Sommerfeld. The wave profiles and heights on both the leeward side of the breakwater and the gap side have been studied and summarized in the form of diagrams with diffraction coefficients in range of x/L, y/L 0∼100, b/L=0.5∼12, with some extension of the diagrams made previously. The results of the theoretical approaches have not been experimentally verified. The theory ad computation methods with computer program in Fortran IV developed in this study make an efficient use for estimating the diffraction about a breakwater gap.
