Egg Detection Rates of Enterobius uermiculuyis in Children (도시 및 농촌 아동의 요충란 양성율)

  • The cello·tape anal swab specimens from 936 primary school children in Seoul, 308 primary school children in a rural area and 92 children in Nanjido, were examined for Enterobius vermicularis eggs. Out of 936 specimens from a primary school in Seoul, E. vermicularis eggs were detected in 114 specimens, the egg detection rate being 12.2%. In 308 specimens from a primary school in a rural area,77 (25.0%) were positive for 5. vermicularis eggs. Among 92 specimens from Nanjido children in Seoul, egg Positive rate of E. vermicularis was 28.3%. The egg detection rate of primary school children in Seoul was significantly lower than that of primary school children in a rural area and of Nanjido children. The egg detection rate in boys was lower than that of girls. As the age of children increased, the egg detection rate decreased.

  • The daily life activities of primary school children have been increasingly diversified. This research examined the spatio-temporal characteristics of primary school children's daily life activities. The time allocation of primary school children's daily activities was monotonous. They tended to spend most of their time in school activities, private lessons after school, and studying at home. The daily trip to school has been diversified as the result the of increase in the number of double-income families, car owners, facilities for pastime, and educational facilities for private lessons after school. The selection of educational facilities for private lessons was strongly influenced by accessibility to the residence because of the limited time budget of primary school children and the controlled trip behavior by parents. The leisure activities were considered as a minor function and took place in the interval of performances of study-related activities. The high proportion of leisure activities was found in the indoor play. The amount of the time for leisure activity was very insufficient. The spatial range and time budget were strongly influenced by the institutional conditions of parents.

  • This study aims at not only suggesting some ideas useful in planning and doing the sexual education in the primary schools in the near future putting into test the sexual education program which has been developed by researchers in accordance with the national education courses but also improve sexual health of the children through taking right sexual knowledge and sound sexual attitude. For this study 21 students are selected from all class of the fourth grade of the 'D' primary school at H district in KangWon-Do and have been taught the sexual education program during 6weeks, 12times. The findings of the study are as follows: 1. After the sexual education program, the sexual knowledge of the primary school children show to be significantly different from that they had before(t=-6.661, p=.000). So, this finding indicating that the sexual education program helps the children have and expand the correct sexual knowledge accordingly. 2. In order to look into any change of the sexaul attitudes of the primary school children after the sexual education program, there were significant difference(t=-3.808, p=.001). It is discovered that children come to have more affirmative and sound sexual attitude after sexual education program. As the findings of the study indicate, it may be concluded as follows: Since the sexual education program can affirmative influence on the sexual knowledge and sexual attitudes of the children, it is recommendable to start the sexual education program as early as possible in their childhood so that they can establish a sound sexual mortality for themselves. Additionally, to perform the sexual education program suitable for every stage of children should be developed, qualified teachers and the educational materials should be reinforced and added enough and institutional device should be made to execute the sexual education program systematically.

A Survey on the One-Sided Dietary Habit of Primary School Children (국민학교 아동의 편식에 대한 실태조사 - 서울시내 일부지역 아동을 대상으로 -)

  • In this study was made a survey of the dietary habit with too many likes and dislikes (one-sided dietary habit) of first grade primary school children on 1098 primary school children, in an attempt to provide data for an efficient nutrition management for children. The results of the survey were interpreted in term of the standard of education and the state of employment of the children's mothers, the standard of living, sex, the number of sibling, the order of birth, whether or not living together with grandmother, and the breast feeding period. From the results of this study it seems that the overprotection by mothers leads the children to one-sided dietary habit. The mothers listed the lack of nutrition knowledge and the lack of efforts for meal management as major reasons for that they failed to help their children form a good dietary habits.

  • The authors had surveyed on the snack foods of 300 primary school children in Seoul in order to obtain the informations for the dietary counseling and suggestions as a method of dental caries prevention. The obtained results were as follows; 1. Primary school children had the intake of the snack foods in the order of the apple, the candy, the orange, the cake, the milk, the biscuit, the Ramyeontang, the regular gum, the persimon, the Tugpokie. 2. Of the primary school children, 5.6% had intaking no snack food, but 10.6% once, 21.6% twice, 29.0% three times, and 33.0% four times or over in a day, respectively.

Analysis on Play-games and Play-songs of Korean Chinese Children (중국 연변 조선족 어린이들의 놀이와 놀이노래 조사연구)

  • This study purposes to analyse what games are played and what play-songs are sung among Chinese primary and middle school children of immigrants who emigrated from Korea to 延邊 about 50 years ago. Questionnaire survey, asking about the kinds of games, play-materials, the origins of the games, and the contents of play-songs, was conducted on 50 5th-grade-children and 50 middle school students. The results are as follows: The primary school children have enjoyed physical play. While playing, they sang the songs which they learned from their mother, grand parents, siblings, and teachers. The middle school children tend to play alone more than the primary ones, watching videos and listening to music. Especially they enjoy the popular songs of South Korea. This phenomena reflects the cultural change of the communist society which is struggling to transform its system to open market system.

  • In order to develop the programme for the improvement of dental health among primary school children, epidemiological survey to examine dental caries status was conducted among primary school children in Changwon, Korea. We sampled 2 primary schools and surveyed children from first to sixth grade aged 6-11 years. All samples were 3,206 consisted of 1,715 males and 1,491 females. We assessed caries prevalence on permanent teeth. 1. Children with caries experience on permanent teeth were 15.1% at 1st grade, 48.2% at 2nd grade, 73.8% at 3rd grade, 75.6% at 4th grade, 76.8% at 5th grade, 77.4% at 6th grade. 2. Decayed, Missing and Filled teeth were 0.31 at 1st grade, 1.16 at 2nd grade, 2.12 at 3rd grade, 2.38 at 4th grade, 2.50 at 5th grade, 2.69 at 6th grade. 3. Decayed teeth among Decayed, Missing and Filled teeth were totally 63.4%. Filled teeth among Decayed, Missing and Filled teeth were totally 36.6%. 4. Community dental health programmmes including water fluoridation, fluoride mouth rinsing, use of fluoride-containing toothpastes and fissure sealants should be developed to prevent dental caries among school children. 5. School incremental dental care programme should be also developed to prevent and treat children's dental caries by use of dentists and oral hygienists.

Infection rates of Enterobius vermicularis and Clonorchis sinensis of primary school children in Hamyang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do (Province), Korea

  • The egg Positive rate of Enterobius vermicularis and Clonorchis sinensis of school children in the rural area was studied in Hamyang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do in Korea. Cellotape anal swab and formalin ether concentration methods were performed one time to 720 Primary school children. The total egg Positive rate of E. vermicularis was 12.6% in two schools (Baekjeon and Wiseong). In the Baekjeon and Wiseong primary school, the egg Positive rate of E. vermicularis was 4.6% and 13.4%, respectively Pinworm egg Positive rate was 17.6% in the lower grades (1st, 2nd and 3rd), and 7.7% in higher grades (4th, 5th and 6th). The total egg Positive rate of male and female was 12.6% and 12.7%, respectively. The egg Positive rate of C. sinensis of Baekjeon and Wiseong Primary school was 1.5% and 0.46%, respectively The total e99 Positive rate of C. sinesis was 0.56%. This survey showed that continuous education and chemotherapy is necessary to treat and prevent reinfection of E. vermicularis. In the case of C. sinensis, health education for school children is recommended to prevent potential infection of adolescents.

Enterobius vermicularis egg positive rate in a primary school in Chungchongnam-do (Province) in Korea

  • The egg Positive rate of Enterobius vernicularis was investigated among students of a primary school and a kindergarten located in the rural area of Tangjin-gun, Chungchongnam-do in December, 1998. Of the 189 examinees, 28 (14.8%) were found to be infected with E. vermicularis by the adhesive cellotape anal swab method . The infection rates ranged from 4.2% to 26.1% among school children, and the highest rate was observed in children attending kindergarten. Three months after treatment with albendazole, four (14.3%) out of 28 infected children still remained infected with E. vermicularis. Through this survey, we were able to determine that E. vemicularis infection is still prevalent among children in rural areas of Korea.

A Study on the Influence of Interest on Academic Records and Emotion : Primacy School Boys and Girls (아동의 흥미가 학급성적 및 정서에 미치는 영향)

  • To identify interest of primary school children and find the correlations between their interest and school achievement and emotion. Cluster-sampled 410 primary school children in Seoul were interviewed by the standardized questionnaire and data were analyzed statistically by computer system. 1) High SES has positive influence on school achievement. 2) children in higher SES tend to like more in-door-play or instrumental play. 30 More spending their times with in-door-play or instrumental play, children make better school achievement. 4) There is no significant relationships between the TV watching time and emotional stability. 5) More interest I social, natural science and arithmetic, children make higher achievement in all subjects above average. 6) Children's emotion has no association with school achievement, playing types and TV watching time but has positive association with SES.
