This study is to examine the determinants of the elderly poverty by using the Decision-tree analysis. In line with this perspective, this study includes individual characteristics, family characteristics, working characteristics, and periodic income characteristics after retirement as determinants for senior poverty. The study uses data from the Korean Retirement and Income Study based on panel survey and employs the Decision-tree analysis to explain the causes of the elderly poverty. As the result of analysis, earned wage has the greatest effect on the elderly poverty. Depending on status of the earned wage, there are 2 different variable groups. One with no earned wage includes public pension, education, and residence, paid employee and gender in the other with earned wage. Based on the analytical results, the study suggests measures to address the elderly poverty.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of human capital and social capital, including employment status, education, income, social supports, and social participations, on the health status of the elderly aged over 50, after controlling for various demographic variables. Data were from the 6th wave of the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(n=3,459). The major findings of this study were as follows: First, human capital and social capital were both resources that can contribute to improving the health status of the elderly aged over 50. Second, the effects of human capital and social capital on the health status of the elderly differed in the three subsamples defined by employment status. Based on the empirical results, policy implications were provided.

Recently, there has been the gradual growth of the public in rural amenities, hobby farming works, much more urbanities, and especially near-retires. However, in spite of popular preference to ruralities, little has been known about their demand on retired rural life. Therefore, this study examined urbanites' attitude to preparatory works for out-migration, preferred residential site condition and life styles in the countryside. For the purpose, data were collected from the survey with the sample of 62 urban trainees who were studying farming technology in department of training on agricultural technology of Korea National Agricultural College, RDA. We carried out the experience farming to candidate with using the abandoned sericultural facilities which are the silkworm rearing house and mulberry fields. The 71% of urban trainees, who answered in this survey, hoped to move into countryside after retirement and to make a monthly income of $1,000 from agriculture. The age distribution of sericulural farmers is about 79% more than that of 60 years old. In the experience farming works. The two candidates made 1,977$ with net income through 32 days worked in spring season. In autumn season, the couple candidates made 1,317$ with net income through 23 days worked. Knowledge of these results will be important to policy-makers and to understand the role that retirement in-migration play in stimulating economic growth of rural agricultural farmers.

The purpose of this study was to examine the association between time-income availability and health-promoting behavior (physical practice, smoking, alcohol consumption) of older males (55-69). This study attempted to shed light on health-behavior changes during the transition period of male retirement. The availability of time resources was examined by addressing the amount of weekly paid labor hours. The availability of financial resources was calculated by using the debt-income ratio. The study sample comprised 1,372 (age range 55-69) male respondents of the 2006 Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (2006 KLOSA wave 1). The results of CHAID (CHi-squared Automatic Interaction Detection) analysis uncovered four distinctive combinations of resource types: time-money poor, time rich, money rich, time-money rich. According to logit results, these four groups had different socio-demographic profiles and different health-behavior risks. The time-money poor males were unlikely to perform physical activities needed to improve their health or to quit smoking or alcohol consumption. This group was also more likely to consume alcohol compared to the time-money resource types. In contrast, the time-money rich group was more likely to exercise longer and more frequently than the reference group (time and money poor). The time-rich types, those who have time-only resources and less money, were likely to be smokers and have problems with alcohol consumption.

Urban household's interest in moving to rural area after retirement have been increasing. Most of them live in rural areal for the sake of pleasant natural environment such as fresh air, clean water. The purpose of the study is to analyse characteristics of them and factors affecting their decision. In 2010, about 27% of urban households wish to migrate to rural area after retirement. The results from the random intercept binary logit model implies that 40~50 age, less high-school graduate and middle-income households are more likely to move. And households are more concerned with residential environment-noise, air, water- than house condition. Also, more people have moved to rural in the region. more households wish to move. It implies that information about urban-to-rural migration and life in rural area affect people's positive attitude to move to rural after their retirement.

The purpose of this work is to explore different types of intergenerational relationships in the later lives of old retirees. This will be done according to the eligibility of public pension and the old age social security system so that the factors affecting intergenerational relationships can be analyzed, and to propose a plan to improve social adaptation in later life. The data used in this work are the Fourth basic survey data of the 2011 Korea Retirement and Income Study. The study subjects of this work were 2,435 retirees over age 65 who had children. In this study, latent class analysis and logistic regression analysis were conducted to classify types of intergenerational relationships and to analyze the influence of relevant factors. As a result of the analysis, some of those in the group were eligible for public pension, and the ones who were not were classified into three types: the closely-living-together type, the separate-living-contact type, and the estrangement type. In the group not eligible for public pension, it was found that age, spouse, number of children, economic factors, and level of health satisfaction gave significant power to intergenerational relationships. In the group eligible for public pension, it was found that age, income and net assets, ADL(Activities of Daily Living), whether there was an IADL(Instrumental Activities of Daily Living) spouse, and number of children affected types of intergenerational relationships; Socio-demographic factors, economic factors, and healthy factors became significant variables according to the classified types of intergenerational relationship. Based on the study results, this work suggested such necessities to lay the foundation for an elderly welfare system for social adaptation in later life, This includes the offering of programs for retirement preparation, the use of family and local society resources, and expansion of the opportunity to participate in social activities.

The sample of this study consisted of 837 middle-aged salary workers living in Seoul, Daejeon, Jeonju, Daegu, Gyonggi-do, and Jeju-do. Statistic values that were used for the analysis were frequencies, means, and logistic analysis. The major findings were as follows : First, 91.5% of the middle-aged salary workers needed silver town as their future care type and 63.2% of all workers wanted to live in the silver town. Second, the most frequent reason for choosing silver town as their care type was the convenience of their daily life. For the most part, salary workers answered that they would be moving to a silver town when they have some problems with mobility. Also, they wanted to pay for a deposit of 54,620,000 won and a monthly payment of 870,000 won. The Purpose of this study is to find the levels of keeping financial records among Korean households and to reveal the effect of keeping financial records on financial soundness of households. The 2014 Consumer Empowerment Index of the Korean consumer agency, which includes the surveyed results of 1,000 individuals, was analyzed as a secondary dataset. As a result, the following findings emerged during the study. First, 25.9% of consumers replied that they were keeping financial records. Factors associated with keeping financial records were gender and income. Women were more likely to keep financial records than men. Also, income had significant effects on keeping financial records. Second, levels of meeting percentages of financial ratios were highest in the debt to income ratio, which was 81.5%, and lowest in the investment ratio, which was 14.5%. Furthermore, 52.6% met the savings ratio, 40.6% met the emergency funds ratio, 24.6% met the retirement savings ratio. Meeting a percentage of the savings ratio did not fluctuated for 16 years, although the debt to income ratio has decreased around 15% since 1998. Third, keeping a household account book had signigicant influences on meeting percentages of financial ratios. Magnitudes of effects ranged between 1.4-1.8 odds, which were as much as the income effects. In summary, effects of keeping financial records were evidenced in this study. It is suggested that the importance of keeping financial records should be stressed in financial education and counseling programs.
