  • Although distortions of horizontally curved box girder are more susceptible than which of the straight girder due to curvature effect, current domestic design standards does not present spacing of intermediate diaphragms for the curved box girder. In this study, parametric studies for straight and curved box girder considering distortional warping normal stresses based on linear finite element analysis were carried out. Single span curved girders were chosen for analysis based on current domestic bridge data with 1-6 of solid intermediate diaphragms, 0-30 degree of subtended angle, 30m and 60m of span length and 2-3m of flange width and web height. The adequate spacing of diaphragms for the box girder were suggested considering subtended angles and bending and distortional warping normal stress ratios with 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. The analysis results were also compared to a current design standard and suggested spacing of diaphragm were evaluated.

  • Weight optimization was performed for a rotorcraft shaft system using one-dimensional Euler-Bernoulli beam elements. Torsion, shaft support stiffness such as bearings, flange mass are all considered. To guarantee structural dynamic stability, eigenvalue analysis was performed to avoid critical speed and tooth mesh excitation form the gearbox. The weight optimization was performed by adjusting the thickness and radius while the length of the shaft was fixed, and the optimization process was divided into two stages. In the first, the weight is optimized with the torsional strength constraint. In the second, the difference between the primary mode of shaft and the critical speed is maximized so that the primary mode of the shaft can avoid the critical speed while the constraint on the torsional strength of the shaft is satisfied according to the standard for shaft system stability (AMC P 706-201, 1974). The proposed method was verified by comparing the results of the optimal design using the given one-dimensional beam elements with the stress results of the 3D finite element and the actual manufactured shaft.

  • Purpose: A large number of the mobility impaired have increasingly used the railway station, so the application of UD(Universal Design) on urban railway station has been interested. However, the current criteria used in domestic areas have concerned about the effective administration of railway station facilities rather than the needs of he mobility impaired. Of diverse facilities in railway station, the platform is considered as an important space due to many transportation users' riding or transfer in railway stations. Therefore, this study aims to explore the detailed criteria in adapting ideas from UD to platform within railway station. Methods: This study explores the criteria by evaluating findings from previous studies. First, all criteria related to platform in domestic and foreign areas are taken together and analyzed, and appropriate criteria first are established. Based on these, the current situation of platform facilities in railway station is evaluated. Then, the detailed criteria applicable to railway station platform are concluded, by reviewing types of the mobility impaired and principles of UD. Result: Findings from this study are as follows. First, the current criteria applied to railway station platforms lack ideas of UD, while the criteria used in foreign countries adequately reflect the ideas of UD on railway station platforms; therefore, the better criteria applicable to platform facilities in domestic railway station are necessary. Second, standard criteria used in domestic areas with newly additional criteria suggest that platform facilities should be established according to those criteria. Taken together, the better platform facilities should be provided to railway users through the application of UD to railway station platforms. Implications: For the future users in railway station platforms, the additional research on criteria of UD as well as diverse types of spaces within railway stations should have been continued.

  • Simulation based Battle Experimentation is to examine the readiness for a battle using simulation technology. It heavily relies on the weapon systems modeling and simulation. To analyze the characteristics and complexity of the weapon systems in the experiment, the modeling & simulation environment has to be able to break down the system of systems into components and make the use of high fidelity components such as real hardware in simulation. In that sense, the modular and hierarchical structure of DEVS (Discrete EVent System Specification) framework provides potentials to meet the requirements of the battle experimentation environment. This paper describes the development of the DEVS integrated development environment for Simulation based Battle Experimentation. With the design principles of easy, flexible, and fast battle simulation, the newly developed battle experimentation tool mainly consists of 3 parts - model based graphical design tool for making DEVS models and linking them with external simulators easily through diagrams, the experiment plan tool for speeding up a statistic analysis, the standard components model libraries for lego-like building up a weapon system. This noble simulation environment is to provide a means to analyze complex simulation based experiments with different levels of models mixed in a simpler and more efficient way.

  • To meet the interoperability requirements associated with geospatial data access and geoprocessing, much efforts to design prototypical systems conforming to $OpenGIS^{TM}$ specification has been made. With respect to Object Web GIS, however, current internet mapping technology mainly focuses on either developing mapping libraries or client applications regardless of the future needs for interoperability such as an integration of $OpenGIS^{TM}$ standard for CORBA. In this paper, we propose an $OpenGIS^{TM}$ compliant mapping kernel. OpenViews, which is designed to meet those requirements. The kernel of OpenViews encapsulates the process of acquiring geospatial data in the format of $OpenGIS^{TM}$ Geometry through ORB(Object Request Broker). OpenViews, being designed based on well-known design patterns, is a highly extensible in that programmers can easily customize it on the object oriented architecture. The components implemented in OpenViews are CORBA/Java objects, and as such are portable and scalable in a networked environment. A companion package, OpenBroker, is also developed as a portable geoprocessing application server to facilitate the implementation and configuration of server side CORBA objects. It can be used for implementing objects for spatial analysis service which would be independent of legacy spatial database systems in many cases. OpenViews, together with OpenBroker, has been successfully prototyped using the technologies including EJB and servlet as the core components of an Open GIS compliant internet mapping.

  • At present, in the case of small and medium window manufacturers in South Korea, glazing and window frame manufacturers are divided into separate businesses. However, in the fenestration energy consumption efficiency rating system and the energy-saving design criteria for buildings, the coefficient of overall heat transmission standard for windows is defined by window sets, which integrate glazing and window frames. At most construction sites, windows are constructed by installing separately supplied glass and frames. Research that can integrate the reality and the system is therefore necessary. The present study first investigated and analyzed the on-site situation of the fenestration energy consumption efficiency rating system. According to the results, while overall understanding of the fenestration energy consumption efficiency rating system was high, satisfaction with it was low, and the general practice at construction sites was to use windows assembled on site rather than integrated window systems manufactured at factories, thus making it difficult to confirm that the current rating system was well applied on site. Consequently, the reality of industrial sites must be reviewed and a realistic alternative to the fenestration energy consumption efficiency rating system must be presented instead of focusing on theory.

  • The Purpose of this study is to develop color palettes for the campus environment to find an identity of various Universities in Korea. This research is focused on the Shin-chon campus of Yonsei University because it has a long history and a mixture of old and new modern buildings in the campus. It takes three steps to proceed this study. Firstly, it is needed to find the images and history of Yonsei University from the documents. In the second place, the colors should be collected from the building materials, four seasons in campus, buildings in campus. At this point, color measurement devices, NCS color system, digital camera and other appropriate devices were used for the study. The third step shows the results of the analysis and development of color palettes based on the analyzed materials from second step. This research suggests three major color groups. The typical main colors of the campus building are YR/anchromatic with middle level of value and chroma from the analysis. The sub-colors are similar to the main colors with pale/light grayish/dull/deep tone. The color palettes out of the results could be used as a standard for campus color scheme in the future to build an identity of Yonsei University.

  • This paper describes a new approach to minimize the amount of shrinkage cracking in cement treated base(CTB). CTB is a stiffness base having lots of merits such as higher rutting resistance, minimizing fatigue cracking, and the ability to distribute upper loads. However, It is not applied to asphalt pavement system in Korea because of possible cracks caused by dry shrinkage. The goal of this study is the development of cement treated base with lower shrinkage for preventing reflection cracks and rutting. After identifying factors affecting dry shrinkage and analyzing mechanism of each admixture, the laboratory and field tests were designed and performed. Through the preliminary tests, the mix design containing 25 percent o( fly ash and 7 percent of cement was suggested. This mix design was satisfied with strength for Korea specification standard. According to the results considering strength, shrinkage, and economical efficiency, two mix designs were selected; 1) containing 25 percent of fly ash and 2) containing 25 percent of fly ash with 10 percent of expensive additive. For field test based on the result of laboratory test, the optimized alternative in cement treated base with lower shrinkage was the mix design containing 25 percent of fly ash with 10 percent of expansive additive.

  • 3D Models of offshore plant piping materials designed by 3D CAD systems are provided to the production processes in the form of 2D piping drawings and 2D piping installation drawings. In addition to the standard engineering information, the purchasing, procurement, manufacturing, installation, and inspection of raw materials are managed systematically in an integrated process control system. The existing integrated process management system can help reduce the processing time by managing the flow and progress of resources systematically, but it does not include 3D design model information. Hence, it is difficult to understand complicated pipe structures before installing the pipe. In addition, when design changes or immediate design modifications are required, it is difficult to find related data or exchange information quickly with each other. To solve this problem, an offshore plant-piping process-monitoring system was developed based on a 3D model. The 3D model-based piping monitoring system is based on Visual Studio 2017 C# and UNITY3D so that the piping-process work information can be linked to the 3D CAD model in real time. In addition, the 3D model could check the progress of the pipe installation process, such as block, size, and material, and the progress of functional inspection items, such as cleaning, hydraulic inspection, and pneumatic inspection.

  • In reinforced concrete structures, the joints of ordinary rebars are usually lap joints, which are bound by binding wires with rebars, and mechanical joints by couplers. In domestic design standards (concrete design code), welded lap joints are restricted for ordinary rebars, but overseas standards allow welded lap joints of ordinary rebars through pre-heating. This study investigated the domestic and international standards/criteria and evaluated the fracture strength by performing the tensile test on the lap welded joint of SD400 grade rebars, which is used the most in the construction sites. The weld length of the specimen for weld lap joints is based on the minimum weld length (8d) given in the KS standard (KS B ISO 17660-1). According to AWS D1.4, the preheating temperature was set to $150^{\circ}C$ for D19 and below, and $260^{\circ}C$ for D22 and above. In the test results, the tensile strength of rebars with welded lap joints exceeded the required strength (125% of the yield strength) according to the concrete design code. To analyze the effect of preheating, the tensile strength of the welded rebars after preheating was not significantly different from that of the welded rebars without preheating. The carbon equivalent content (Ceq) of the rebars used in the test was 0.45% or less. Under AWS D1.4, no preheating is required if the carbon equivalent is less than 0.45%. All specimens with a welded lap length of 8d failed by a bar fracture. The effect of preheating was confirmed to be insignificant due to the low carbon equivalent of the rebar.
