  • For an organization to survive and prosper, it is essential to continuously develop innovative products by proactively anticipating consumers' implicit requirements. The Kano model has become more useful since Sireli et al. (2007) and Tontini (2007) introduced a simple equation for determining the importance of characteristics by using the concept of Kano's Potential Customer Satisfaction Coefficient (PCSC). However, although several studies have utilized the PCSC concept to determine the importance of characteristics, it is surprising that the two equations have been accepted without any validation process. This study aims to propose a modified equation using PCSC and to conduct a validity test of the proposed equation, demonstrating its superiority over the previously suggested two equations, The author analysed 26 Kano related articles (27 cases), and the correlation coefficients were compared with those obtained from direct rating importance, which served as a comparative criterion. The results indicate that the proposed equation is valid for assessing characteristic importance and demonstrates significantly higher correlation coefficients with the direct method than those suggested by Tontini (2007) and Siireli et al. (2007). The proposed method offers advantages in terms of accuracy and survey duration over traditional methods that directly ask for relative importance (e.g., AHP by Saaty (1980)). Furthermore, the integration of the Kano model with IPA or QFD could enhance the accuracy and efficiency of research in determining the importance of characteristics.

  • The definition of quality continues to evolve. In recent years, there has been growing interest in how to satisfy customers' potential needs with an emphasis on customer-oriented quality. Two-dimensional quality proposed by Kano provides a useful framework for discovering quality attributes critical to customer satisfaction and it is widely employed for product and service development. In Kano model, quality attributes are classified into attractive, one-dimensional, must-be, indifferent, and reverse ones. Finding attractive elements among them is important for achieving customer satisfaction effectively. However, Kano's classification method has limitations in dealing with customers' ambiguous and complex ideas. The customer response itself includes uncertainty and incompleteness. To overcome this problem, fuzzy methods are incorporated with Kano's classification in this paper. According to numerical comparisons, it is shown that the fuzzy Kano method is useful for accommodating various response of customer and is helpful to identify potential needs.

  • Recently, service quality must reflect several demands of customers who show rapid and various changes so as to be compared with the past. So, objective and rapid measuring methods for service quality are necessary. For them, first of all, service company must calculate their standard of service quality accurately by measuring service quality exactly. Kano classified the degree of influence that is the degree of correspondence of the quality attributes of products and services to the subjective satisfaction of customers. As a result, the types of qualities are classified as attractive, must be, one dimensional, and indifference attributes. They have been widely used quality attributes in various industrial fields up to now. However, Kano model has a limit that it ignores the characters of the next frequent numbers even though there are not much gap comparing to the most frequent number in the questionnaire answers. The limit is attributed to the character of Kano model that the most frequent number is accepted as the only quality character. Timko calculated the customer satisfaction coefficient by using Kano's method and studied the differences in quality character by classifying the quality characteristics in a graphical way through the relationship between the satisfaction and the dissatisfaction coefficient. In this study, we used the quality level determination method of the 7-point Likert scale, which takes the weight into account, to complement the deficiencies of the existing Kano model. We also developed and applied a Potential Satisfaction Level (P) and Potential Customer Demand Improvement (PCDI) Index to present a new approach to the determination of service quality attributes. To measure the level of potential service satisfaction and to understand the degree of improvement, we collected specimens of 51 participants who has been trained in the National Strategy Business Training Program, which has been managed by government agent, and analyzed the results.

  • This study singled out 30 smart car features and surveyed 250 respondents. Assuming that the relationship between fulfillment of a feature or a customer need and the satisfaction with that feature is not necessarily linear, this study was conducted using Kano's method. Two devices, Timko Deviation(TD) and Kano Distribution Index(KDI), were devised to help evaluate resulting Kano table quantitatively. Previous research based on Kano's original framework showed the limit to the analysis of new or unfamiliar features: more than 85% of the features surveyed turned out to be either Attractive or Indifferent attributes. This study attempted a new empirical approach by applying customer experiences, price conditions, and customer self-stated importance. The results showed that customer experience of the surveyed features affected the overall satisfaction level, signifying that Kano's method should be conducted with care when analyzing emerging technologies such as smart cars. It is expected that this study would be utilized for better understanding of the perception and trends of customers regarding new technologies. This study also suggests a new approach to the analysis of customer requirements by providing price conditions.

  • The environment of the enterprise changes very quickly, and the customers' needs ate becoming to be various. Only the enterprise can be securing a competitive high position if the enterprise knows well with the customer. Therefore, the enterprise must be confronted appropriately which grasps the requirement of he customer. The Kano presents quality dualism, it complemented a different meaning problem point and the Timko presented the customer satisfaction coefficient. But the model of the Timko which committed the error as well that does not consider the indifferent quality of he Kano. Hence, with this research hat proposes the method of analyzes the client demands accurately through Modified CS-coefficient. Then, apply the method on to the multiplex theater.

  • This paper proposes a method for quantifying the types of quality elements proposed by Kano; namely: attractive quality, one-dimensional quality, and must-be quality. Kano's classification of required quality has helped us improve our thinking in product development. However, his classification is conceptual rather than quantitative, and the conventional techniques of questionnaire and group interview cannot provide quantification of the relationship between the degree of customer satisfaction and the degree of sufficiency of required qualities. This paper describes how a quality element under Kano's quality model can be expressed as a utility function, and describes an application to quality design of a cellular phone.

  • In order to satisfy customers, it is important to identify the quality elements that affect customers' satisfaction. The Kano model has been widely used in identifying multi-dimensional quality attributes in this purpose. However, the model suffers from various shortcomings and limitations, especially those related to survey practices such as the data amount, reply attitude and cost. In this research, a model based on the text sentiment analysis is proposed, which aims to substitute the survey-based data gathering process of Kano models with sentiment analysis. In this model, from the set of opinion text, quality elements for the research are extracted using the morpheme analysis. The opinions' polarity attributes are evaluated using text sentiment analysis, and those polarity text items are transformed into equivalent Kano survey questions. Replies for the transformed survey questions are generated based on the total score of the original data. Then, the question-reply set is analyzed using both the original Kano evaluation method and the satisfaction index method. The proposed research model has been tested using a large amount of data of public IT service project evaluations. The result shows that it can replace the existing practice and it promises advantages in terms of quality and cost of data gathering. The authors hope that the proposed model of this research may serve as a new quality analysis model for a wide range of areas.

  • In a software development process, it is necessary to have a method which verifies and satisfies users' requirements in their point of view. This allows the system developer to design a high qualify software system and have it developed and used in an effective way since users' requirements have well been shown through it. In this paper, we propose the RV-UI model system that can verify users' requirements a step ahead of system implementation step. This RV-UI model system has standardized user interface which is in practical use into functional model for each process and it is designed to satisfy users' requirements and manage configuration of them through the interface which has the Kano model.
