  • The purpose of this research is to introduce a new method for teaching family resource management using classroom experiments. Classroom experiments are very attractive in the sense that students are placed directly into the various environments being studied, and they enhance the effectiveness of the Socratic Method, as opposed to traditional lectures. The family resource management approach focuses on the resource allocation behavior of families in the utilization of their human and non-human resources to achieve goals. Therefore, there are many family resource decision situations to which classroom experiments may be fruitfully applied. Within this context, this research provides useful implications for applying managerial concepts of family resource management behavior in practical situations. The study results might be used to analyze an interactive framework that facilitates discussions of classroom experiments, family resource management behavior and human ecology.

  • In Korean society, a housewife and mother often plays the role of family resource manager. In 2008, the newly appointed Korean government proposed a new direction in social policies, including family policy, that is, "active social welfare". According to "active social welfare", family policy focuses on a preventive policy and a family needs-oriented policy. In other words, newly established family policies should reflect parents' needs in their family resource management. In this economic downturn, family policies should be established to satisfy parents' needs to overcome their own family's economic crisis. This study focuses on policy recipients' real voices and their needs: they need the government's help supporting their efforts to overcome the economic crises within their families.

The research trends have most focused on the issue of practice(II), that is, program analysis and development, contents review, because of the settlement of delivery system after the early of law establishment. But it is needed to rethink research themes because it has been dealt with not academical researches on theoretical basis but practical ones, for example, program development on Healthy Families Center and the tendency still lasts until now. Second, more than half of research methods have been concentrated on contents analysis and about 70% of research objects are focused on the center program. It needs to adopt various research methods and research objects. Lastly, it is necessary to make an academic identity clear that can be faithful to Family Resource Management Studies.
