This study is performed to examine the meal management attitudes of housewives who had elementary schoolchildren in the remote rural areas(RA: n = 318, $37.2{\pm}0.3$ years of age) in comparison to those in their vicinity urban area(UA: n = 349, $36.9{\pm}0.2$ years of age) in the Chungnam province in Korea. The subjects were asked to fill out the questionnaire on their attitudes of meal management for their families. The results obtained in this study were as followings: (1) Most husbands of the subjects had a farming job in the RA while they had salaried workers in the UA(p<0.001). Education levels of both subjects and their husbands were lower in the RA than in the UA. Nuclear families were dominated by both groups, however single parent-family and step parent-family were more prevalent in the RA than in the UA. (2) in terms of ways of getting foods such as grains, meats, eggs, vegetables and fruits, the RA housewives relied more often on self-production than did the UA housewives(p<0.001). (3) The frequency of purchasing unprocessed foods was lower in the RA than in the UA(p<0.001). The RA housewives purchased the convenient foods such as instant noodles(p<0.05), ready to eatsoups(p<0.001), retort pouch foods(p<0.05) and instant teas(p<0.05) more frequently than did the UA housewives, while tuna, canned in oil(p<0.01), milk and their products(p<0.001), soybean products(p<0.001) and snacks(p<0.01) were purchased less often by the RA housewives. (4) Family members except housewives engaged more often in meal preparation in the RA than did those in the UA(p<0.001), which was more strongly observed for dinner. The time spent in preparing the dinner was shorter in the RA than in the UA(p<0.001). (5) The degrees of endeavor to provide the subjects' offspring with balanced meal(p<0.001) and nutrition education(p<0.01) were lower in the RA than in the UA. The RA housewives had more difficulty for performing meal management because of 'over work-related fatigue', 'insufficient money to purchase foods' and 'far distance from grocery' than the UA housewives(p<0.001). The RA housewives had lower score on nutritional knowledge(p<0.001) and wanted more strongly nutritional knowledge to improve the quality of family's meal than did the UA housewives(p<0.01). Therefore, the RA housewives had various problems regarding meal management such as 'over work related to fatigue', 'food-purchasing inconvenience', 'low economic status of family' and 'lack of nutritional knowledge'. As a consequence the RA housewives relied on cheap convenient foods more often in order to prepare the meal easily than did the UA housewives. These findings emphasize the need in the RA for nutrition education for housewives and a range of nutrition policies that focus upon the social and economic determinants of food choice within families to improve the nutritional status of the RA residents.

In this study, on-site corporate instructors participated as student-cum-workers in a degree-linked high skills Meister course to improve job competency and practical ability as proposed in the Work-Study Career Vision. Evaluation questions were then developed and their validity was verified by assessing satisfaction related to expected goals in enhancing advanced training guidance and competency as an evaluator. Satisfaction assessment was conducted based on training preparation, training implementation, training effectiveness and training administration. The Delphi Method was adopted and a total of 48 items were developed in 6 categories under 4 main areas. There were 7 evaluation items on the satisfaction of training course development under training preparation, 21 evaluation items related to the satisfaction of Off-JT and OJT courses under training implementation, 16 evaluation items related to the satisfaction of increased competency as an on-site corporate instructor and the satisfaction of enhanced practical skills and skills application at work under training effectiveness, as well as 6 evaluation items to assess satisfaction with administrative support under training administration. The final conformity assessment was conducted based on the stability, content validity ratio, consensus and convergence indicators of the developed items. Results of this study do not only apply to quality management of the high skills Meister course which is being promoted as a pilot project for work-study programs, but also serves as a rationale that may be considered as a basic research tool in the collection of various opinions to derive overall system improvement factors for the work-study high skills Meister course.
The objective of our study is to build a theoretical framework for the examination of impacts of cross-functional integration upon new product development performance(NPDP). For this purpose, we have concentrated our efforts on systematically delving into how cross-functional integration factors affect upon the interdepartmental cooperation and upon the NPDP while dividing those critical integration factors into the structural and the infra-structural ones. We have selected interdepartmental job-rotation, consigning of papers, and cross-functional teem meeting as structural cross-functional integration factors. On the other hand, we have chosen Quality Functional Deployment(QFD), Concurrent Engineering(CE), and Evaluation and Reward Systems as those infra-structural cross-functional integration factors. After identifying those integration factors, we have carefully searched the relationship between those integration factors and those cooperation variables (interdepartmental common goal, interdepartmental interactions, and common sharing of ideas and informations) to look into how they affect upon the NPDP. Among cross-functional integration and NPDP related studies, our study is the first to show systematically how strongly infra-structural integration factors affect upon the achievement of interdepartmental cooperation and the improvement of NPDP. Considering the limitation of our resources and time available for this research, we have limited our study to building only a theoretical framework for future empirical studies to look into how cross-functional integration variables are related with NPDP.
This study was designed to identify degrees of self-esteem instrumental activities of daily living and life satisfaction in the elderly and to investigate the relationship between these factors thus contributing to effective nursing interventions to promote quality of life for both noninstitutionalized and institutionalized elderly. The subjects for this study included 130 noninstitutionalized and institutionalized elderly. The data were collected through personal interviews using a questionnaire, the time being from August 25 to September 7, 1997. IADL(t=4.36, P=.000). and Life Satisfaction(t=6.63, P=.000) between the noninstitutionalized elderly and the institutionalized elderly. 2. There was a significant positive correlation between self-esteem and IADL(${\gamma}$=.4028). self-esteem and life satisfaction(${\gamma}$=.6415). and IADL and life satisfaction(${\gamma}$=.3884) in the noninstitutionalized elderly(P<.001). and between self-esteem and life satisfaction(${\gamma}$=.3883, P<.001). IADL and life satisfation(${\gamma}$=.2501, P<.05) in the institutionalized elderly. 3. According to the general characteristics of the noninstitutionalized and institutionalized elderly : Self-Esteem of the noninstitutionalized elderly was significantly different. according to educational level(F=4.491, P=.031). job(F=2.53, P=.044). living expense load(F=2.861. P=.044). and self-esteem, and of the institutionalized elderly, it was significantly different according to educational level only (F=4.480, P=.006). IADL of the noninstitutionalized elderly was significantly different according to age(F=3.018, P=.021). living expense load(F=3.034. P=.033). pocket money(F=3.606. P=.010). and for the institutionalized elderly, it was significantly different according to age(F=2.899, P=.042), and religion(F=2.847, P=.044). Life Satisfaction of the noninstitutionaized elderly( F=2.718, P=.037) and instiutionalized elderly(F=3.165, P=.030) was significantly different according to pocket money.
Today's employees are facing various socio-emotional problems due to the lack of appropriate supports and intervention in the workplace. These problems, however, cause considerable stress and inflict fatal damage on the quality of the employees' lives. Thus, this study analyzed the negative effects of the employees' socio-emotional problems on their stress, depression, and a sense of self-esteem. As a result, the study has identified that the problems occurred widely in the work life area such as job-related problem, predicament of retirement, workplace violence, family life area such as family relationship, child education, crisis problem, and lastly culture and health related area. This study also found that the socio-emotional problems in the three areas were the main stressors after all and they once again negatively affected depression and a sense of self-esteem. However, the role of social support, which is known to have the buffering effect on depression and a sense of self-esteem, was not sufficiently proved. This strongly implies that traditional social supports necessarily have limitations to overcome employees' socio-emotional problems in hand and thus systematic intervention toward the troubled workers in the organizational level must be required.
