Purpose : The purpose of this study is to understand the attitudes to internal service quality between coworkers, service quality to patients, job satisfaction, organizational identification and job identification of physical therapists in medical organizations. Methods : Data were collected from physical therapists working in medical organizations. 195 questionnaires were analyzed. Participants' total mean, group mean by age, sex, career and type of medical organization and the variables' correlations were examined. Results : The attitudes of physical therapists to five variables were very positive. Especially job identification was strong. The significant differences between groups were found in some variables. All variables except age and career were positively related to each other. The correlation between age and career was very high. Age and career were related to some of variables. Conclusion : To improve organizational performances it should be a top priority to understand the attitudes of physical therapists in organizations.
Background: Conservation of resources theory assumes loss of resources as a cause of job strain. In hospital work, conflicts with supervisors are tested to predict lower resources, that is, supervisory social support, participation possibilities, and appreciation. All three resources are expected to predict, in turn, experienced stress (job strain) and lower job satisfaction, lower affective commitment, and a higher resigned attitude towards the job (job attitudes). Methods: The sample included 1,073 employees from 14 Swiss hospitals (n = 604 nurses, n = 81 physicians, n = 135 medical therapists, and n = 253 technical and administrative staff). Of the total sample, 83.1% were female and 38.9% worked full-time. The median tenure was between 7 years and 10 years. Constructs were assessed by online questionnaires. Structural equation modeling was used to test mediation. Results: Structural equation modeling confirmed the negative association of conflict with supervisors and job resources. Tests of indirect paths to resources as a link between conflicts with supervisors and job attitudes were significant. For nurses, social support, participation and appreciation showed a significant indirect path, while among medical technicians the indirect paths included social support and appreciation, and among physicians only appreciation showed a significant indirect path. In medical therapists no indirect path was significant. Job resources did not mediate the link between conflict with supervisors and stress in any occupational group. Conclusion: Conflicts with supervisors are likely to reduce job resources and in turn to lower job attitudes. Work design in hospitals should, therefore, address interpersonal working conditions and conflict management in leadership development.
Purpose. The purpose of the study was to categorize nursing students' subjectivity in their attitude toward their jobs, and thereby understand the differences among these attitude types. Methods. The study used a Q-method to measure nursing students' attitude toward jobs identity types. In-depth and objective interviews and literature review formed Q sample. The P sample consisted of 25 nursing students. Results. The results of the study show that nursing students can be categorized into three types, depending on their attitudes toward their jobs. The firs type, 'interest-oriented' students, strongly disagree to the follow-ing: giving priority to job over marriage, standing unfair treatment in the workplace, the importance of pro-motion opportunity, irresponsibility, and uncertainty. The 'reward-oriented' students, on the other hand, strongly disagree to the following: indifference to career prospects, employment-related relocation of residence, irresponsibility, standing difficulties, and compromises with others. The third type of nursing students is the possession-oriented students, who strongly disapprove of irresponsibility, refusal to compromise with reality, standing unfair job allocation or promotion and career uncertainty. Conclusions. The study on nursing college students' attitude toward their jobs is meaningful in the following aspects: First, the study clarifies nursing college students' attitudes toward their job by categorizing it. Second, the study confirms the changing attitudes of nursing students toward jobs with the change of times and calls for proper educational programs to foster healthy career attitudes. Third, proper decision-making as regards jobs and job allocation for nurses, or their career attitudes, is beneficial to individuals, the medical industry, and society.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the differences and relationships among knowledge, attitudes, skill, self-efficacy (SE), and Job satisfaction (JS) of healthcare managers (HMs) participated in the 4 kinds of continuing education. Methods: The subjects were 152 HMs. Data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test, and partial correlation. Results: There were significant differences in knowledge according to the amount of healthcare management experience (HME) and the training program level (TPL); in the attitudes according to gender, age, and the TPL; in the skill according to the amount of HME and the TPL; and in SE according to gender and the TPL. There was no significant difference in JS according to general characteristics. There were significant positive correlations among knowledge, attitudes, skill, SE, and JS. Conclusion: The TPL was identified as a significant common variable that affects all variables apart from JS. According to these results, knowledge, attitudes, skill, and SE are considered as intrapersonal constructs, whereas JS is considered as an organizational construct. Therefore, in order to improve the quality of healthcare management, organizational strategy to enhance job satisfaction of HMs are recommended.
The purpose of this study is to examine the relation between job-related attitudes and intention to leave. To achieve this purpose of study, it set a frame of analysis based on theoretical background about intention to leave, and examined empirically about rank and file police officers. By setting job-related attitudes(organizational commitment, job satisfaction) regarded as the antecedents of the intention to leave, this study examines the relation with intention to leave. The major results of this study are as follows: First, in the relation between job satisfaction and organizational commitment, job satisfaction(+) significantly influence on affective commitment, continuance commitment and normative commitment. Second, in the relation between job satisfaction and intention to leave, job satisfaction(-) significantly influence on intention to leave. Third, in the relation between organizational commitment and intention to leave, affective commitment(-) and continuance commitment(-) significantly influence on intention to leave. but normative commitment did not. Forth, as the result of research about if organizational commitment works as a mediating effect between job satisfaction and intention to leave or not, it works as a mediating effect between job satisfaction and intention to leave in case of affective commitment, continuance commitment and normative commitment. Based on these results, to raise the level of job-related attitudes that influences on intention to leave, and to form the positive job-related attitudes are demanded to prevent and reduce intention to leave.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the overall levels of the middle-aged employed men's attitudes toward retirement and plans for post-retirement life, and to explore the relative effects of personal, family, and job characteristics on retirement attitude and the level of retirement plan. The data were collected from the 438 middle-aged (ranging from 41 to 50) employed men through the structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentile, average, standard deviation, and multiple regression analysis. The results of the data analysis show that most of the respondents had neither positive nor negative attitude toward retirement and the level of planning for post-retirement life was slightly higher than average score on the scale. Next, the positive attitudes of middle-aged employed men toward retirement were observed from those who have higher education, larger household income, higher job security and lower job stress respondents who hold professional, administrative, or official jobs were more positive toward retirement than those who hold professional, administrative, or official jobs were more positive toward retirement than those who hold manufacturing or sales job. A well-planned post-retirement life was found among those who have better health, higher job satisfaction, job security and job orientation. Job characteristic variables such as job security and job satisfaction showed stronger impact than personal or family ones on the attitude toward retirement and the level of retirement planning. This study examined the relationship between the emotional labor, job stress and eating attitudes among clinical nurses. The data was collected from 434 clinical nurses in G city, from February 21 to March 31, 2013 and analyzed using the SPSS 17.0 program. The mean levels of the clinical nurse's emotional labor, job stress and eating attitudes were 3.53, 3.81 and 2.27, respectively. The emotional labor showed a significant positive correlation between job stress (r= .570, p=<.001) and eating attitudes (r= .114, p<.05). In addition, the factors affecting the eating attitude were BMI (${\beta}$=262, p<.001), weight loss exercise (${\beta}$=.203, p<.001), internal medicine (${\beta}$=178, p<.001), surgery (${\beta}$ =.102, p=.043), and emotional labor (${\beta}$=106, p=0.49). These variables accounted for 16.8% of the variance in eating attitudes among clinical nurses. Therefore, working with differentiated departmental programs will be required to improve the eating attitudes and the BMI.
Purpose - This study conducts an empirical analysis of Korean hotel employees' perceived follower types and job attitudes and the influence of social relationships. Management methods are proposed based on the follower relationships. Research, data, and methodology - Data were collected from 400 surveys in eight top hotel restaurants in Seoul from March 16, 2016 to April 16, 2016. Of the 400, 359 valid surveys were used. The analysis was conducted using SPSS 19.0. Frequency and correlation, reliability and validity, and multiple regression tests were conducted. Results - Social relationships had a control effect on the relationship between follower types and job attitudes in terms of independent critical thinking and job satisfaction. For the social exchange relationship, active enthusiastic participation and job satisfaction had a control effect. The relationship of independent critical thinking and changes in career also had a control effect. There was no control effect in the relationship between active enthusiastic participation and motives for changing a career. Conclusion - By having followers with independent critical thinking and active enthusiastic participation, a company can achieve higher competitiveness.
The objectives of the study are: 1) to explore the affecting factors on job search intention among expectant graduates from university and 2) to analyze their causal relationships. For the objectives, the Structural Equation Modeling was run using: AMOS 18.0 program. The analysis included total of 231 senior students from three national universities located in non-central regions. The main results are follows as: first, job search network showed a significant and positive indirect effect on job search intention implying the mediating roles of job search attitudes and job search efficacy. Second, job search attitudes and job search efficacy had positive and significant effects on job search intention. Third, job search constraints had a negative effect on job search attitudes, and job search network and job search constraints were positively associated with job search efficacy. Fourth, higher job search network and higher job search efficacy increased the levels of job search clarity, respectively. These results implied that the improvement of job search efficacy, positive attitudes toward job search and the security of social network for job are meed for expectant graduates from university.
