  • This experiment was conducted to characterize the weed flora in protected semi-irrigated rice seedbeds. There are 22 species in 16 genera and 12 families, consisting of 13 annual and 9 perennial weeds in protected semi-irrigated rice seedbed in Jeonbug province. The highest frequency was obtained with Echinochloa crusgalli(L.) Beauv., Cyperus difformis L., Eleocharis acicularis Rome et Schult, and Monochoria vaginalis Presl. Sites showing Simpson's index ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 reached 82% and 89% of all sites studied in 1983 and 1984, respectively. Dominant weed species were E. crus-galli and C. difformis in both years studied and the community dominance has changed from 0.67 in 1983 to 0.61 in 1984.

  • A study was conducted on 2,210 officials in Jeonbug Province to check out their physical growth, development and nutritional state during the period June 1st 1975 to August 31, 1915. As the results of this study, the following conclusions were reached: 1. Physical measurement a. Body height: The mean body height of male was $166.8{\pm}4.6cm$ and that of female was $156.3{\pm}4.9cm$. The highest value of mean body height was $167.1{\pm}3.9cm$, showing by male of administrative job. The lowest valthe of that was $165.7{\pm}5.2cm$, showing by the male functional job, while the difference of body height was not significant in female. b. Body weight: The mean body weight of male was $61.5{\pm}4.6kg$ and that of female was $51.2{\pm}3.9kg$. The administrative job heavier than functional job of male by type of job, while that of female of functional job heavier than administrative job. c. Chest-girth: The mean chest-girth of male was $90.8{\pm}3.2cm$ and that of female was $83.6{\pm}3.6cm$. 2. Physical growth and developmental state a. The relative body weight was normal in male except the young man under 25 years, while that of female was under the level of standard. b. The relative chest-girth was showed standard values by all age group of officals. c. The Rohrer and Kaup indices were showed standard values except under 19 years officials and 30 to 34 years female officials. 3. Vervaeck index for nutritional status was appeared normal in male but under the values of standard in female.

  • Morphological and ecological comparions are made between specimens of Cobitis koreensis KIM and the geographically restricted population of the Cobitid fish which is found along the Begchon stream, Puangun, Cholla-bugdo province over a 12-month period of 1982 and 1983. The Begchon population is tentatively identified as Cobitis koreensis, but the color patterns and two morphometric proportions differ widely fromthose reported previously for this species. In addition to these character, it is easily distinguished from C. koreensis by the smaller body size, by having the larger egg size and the less egg number in female during the breeding season. As the differentiation of this population is primarily due to geographically isolation, it is supposed that Begchon cobitid population may be an undescribed distinct subspecies of K. koreensis or above the conventional subspecies level.

  • The study was made to expand the knowledge of the ecology of Cobitis koreensis which is very common in the upper and middle part of rivers in western part of Korea. A number of C. koreensis are found in the creek of Jeonju-cheon located at Segjang-ri, Wanju-gun, Jeonrabug-do Province. The area studied has pebble bottoms. The flow velocity of the river ranges from 20cm to 40cm per second under normal conditions. The sex ratio of male to female was 1:1.34 and the female was 10~25mm larger than the male in total length. Length-frequencies in this population indicate that 20~40 mm fish group is underyearling, 40~60mm is a yearling, and 60~85mm is two-year-old. And the fish longer than 90mm in total length is regarded as being over three-year-old. Based on the ratio of gonadal weight to body weight, spawning in this species began in April and expanded well into June with water temperature 20~26。C, and the individuals became sexually mature over the two-year-old. The number of the eggs was counted from ten matured female fishes. The mean number of eggs in seven 72.6~81.4mm fishes was 908 (595-1, 229) and that of the rest three 86.0~89.0mm was 1, 674 (1, 337-2, 023). The contents of stomach in the other fifteen specimens captured in September 1977 were investigated. While the younger fed almost on the algae, the foods in the adult were largely aquatic insects.

  • The purpose of this paper is investigation on the consumption and the nutrition of marketing fermented milk in Korea. The objectives were selected randomly from 3 cities in Jeonbug province, Jeonju, Iri, and Gunsan, and they were grouped into students, housewives, patients, and officers from July to September 1980. (male: 591, Female; 673, total: 1,264). Findings in detail are summarized in Table 1.15. Among the many kinds of marketing fermented milk in Korea, products from the five manufacturers, whose numbers of Lactic acid acid bacteria were standarized, were sampled and divided into groups, A,B,C,D,E. The constituents of nutrition of them were analyzed by HPLC and AAS.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure the body cathexis and clothing satisfaction sccording to the level of age, job, and total monthly income and to investigate the relationship between body cathexis and clothing satisfaction of married women. 43 items of body parts and body functions were selected to measure body cathexis from Secord and jourard body Cathexis scale. A nd 56 items of Mclean's Clothing Satisfac tion scale were used for clothing satisfaction. The questionnaires were administered to 384 mothers in Jeonbug province. 3-way ANOVA and Newman-Keuls test were used for group difference. Pearson's Correlation Coefficients, Partial Correlation Coefficients, Standard Deviation, and Mean were calculated. RESULTS : 1. Body cathexis of married women showed asignificant difference according to age. 2. Clothing satisfaction of married women showed a significant difference to the interaction of age, job, and total monthly income. The elder and higher income group without job had the highest clothing satisfaction scores than any other group. 3. Positive correlations were found among body cathexis, clothing satisfaction, and 6 subscales of clothing satisfaction.

  • This study was carried out to obtain the basic data for the prevention of chronic poisoning by organic phosphorous pesticides and to estimate the normal range of plasma cholinesterase activity level for Korean agricultural workers. The 285 agricultural workers were randomly selected for the study in Jungup Gun, Jeonbug Province, 135 persons of them were tested in the period of pre-exposure of organophosphorous pesticides (April 1981) and rest of them were tested after exposure(August 1981). Cholinesterase activity levels were measured by the Micro-method of Takahashi Hiroshi. Major findings are as following: 1) There is significant difference in plasma cholinesterase activity levels between the pro-exposed and post exposed group(p > 0.01). Mean values of plasma cholinesterase activity levels were $7.60{\pm}1.74{\mu}M/20{\mu}{\ell}$/hr. in the pre-exposed group and $6.23{\pm}1.59{\mu}M/20{\mu}{\ell}$/hr. in the post-exposed group. 2) Plasma cholinesterase activity in Korean agricultural worker could be estimated $7.30-7.90{\mu}M/20{\mu}{\ell}$/hr. with 95% confidence interval.
