This paper proposes new 13-level inverter topology and DC/DC converter buck-boost structure topology for multilevel, compounding uni-directional and bi-directional switches, and proposes high-efficient multilevel inverter system in which the proposed two PCS(Power Conditioning System) was connected in series. In proposed multilevel inverter of forming a output 13-level phase voltage by using total 18 switching parts, Then bi-directional switch has a characteristic of reducing conduction loss and controlling the reactive power effectively by separating electrically from the neutral point. DC/DC converter for supplying in dependent 3 DC voltage to the proposed multi-level inverter generates 180-degree phase shifted PWM by the symmetrically combined structure of 2 buck-boost converter and twice switching frequency efficiency can be obtained, meanwhile, the converter can step up/down the output voltage and 20% output can be generated comparing the input voltage. This proposed system is verified with the simulation and laboratory test.
A fault tolerant structure and its corresponding control strategy for electromagnetic stirring power supplies are proposed in this paper. The topology structure of the electromagnetic stirring power supply contains two-stages. The fore-stage is the PWM rectifier. The back-stage is the fault tolerant inverter, which is a two-phase three-bridge orthogonal inverter circuit while operating normally. When the power switch devices in the inverter are faulty, the structure of the inverter is reconfigured. The two-phase half bridge inverter circuit is constructed with the remaining power switch devices and DC-link capacitors to keep the system operating after cutting the faulty power switch devices from the system. The corresponding control strategy is proposed to let the system work under both normal and fault conditions. The reliability of the system is improved and the requirement of the electromagnetic stirring process is met. Finally, simulation and experimental results verify the feasibility of the proposed fault tolerant structure and corresponding control strategy.
In the study, a numerical analysis is conducted to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of an inverter system inside a panel for three locations (bottom, middle and top). A conjugate heat transfer is simulated using a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) code since the heat transfer through the surrounding panel walls is important. It is shown that the heat flux through the left wall, which is important for the safety of the electronic equipment, is the biggest when the inverter is located at bottom. On the other hand, the heat flux through the left wall is negligible when the inverter at middle or top. It is also found that the heat flux to the surrounding walls is the lowest when the inverter is at middle.
DC-link capacitors are reliability-critical components in a photovoltaic (PV) inverter. Typically, the lifetime of a DC-link capacitor is evaluated by considering the voltage and hot-spot temperature of the capacitor under the specific operating condition of the PV inverter. However, the output of the PV inverter is determined by solar irradiation and ambient temperature, which vary with the seasons; accordingly, the hot-spot temperature of the capacitor also changes. Therefore, the mission profile of the PV system should be considered to effectively evaluate the reliability of the DC-link capacitor. In this study, the reliability of the DC-link capacitor of a three-level NPC inverter is comparatively analyzed with and without considering the mission profiles of the PV system, where two mission profiles recorded in Arizona and Iza are considered. The accumulated damage of the DC-link capacitor is calculated based on the lifetime model by analyzing its thermal loading. Afterward, a reliability evaluation of the DC-link capacitor is performed at the component level and then at the system level by considering all capacitors by means of Monte Carlo analysis. Results reveal the importance of performing a mission-profile-based reliability evaluation during the design of high-reliability PV inverters to achieve the target reliability performance.
The studies on the operating performance analysis or design about the fixed tilt angle flat-plate photovoltaic (PV) system are still lively going off. However the operating property analysis about the arch type PV system which means PV array were designed as round type is dissatisfied. In this paper, we theoretically established the factors which are cause of the deterioration in performance of arch type PV system. In addition, we use the Solar Pro simulation tools to design both flat-plate type and arch type 30kW PV systems. The simulations about arch type PV system applied two ways such as central inverter and string inverter were conducted. The performance ratio (PR) of the PV system with flat-plate type shows the highest value 74[%] when the tilt angle is 30°. In case of arch type, when applying central inverter method, PR value shows approximately 73[%] and no more difference with arch type of the PV array. This value shows 1[%] decrease compare with the flat-plate type. However when applying string inverter methods, the average PR value shows 80 % and 6% improved than the central inverter method.
The performance evaluation of a residential split system inverter air-conditioner has been conducted analytically and experimentally at different system operating conditions. A simulation program for modelling an air-conditioning system which consists of a compressor, a condenser, a capillary tube, an evaporator and related attachments was developed on the basis of the Oak Ridge heat pump design model, MARK III. The accuracy of the simulation results for the compressor frequencies of 32, 68 and 79 Hz for the residential split system inverter air-conditioner has been estimated by comparing calculation results to the experimental data and parametric study has been performed to investigate the effect of design parameters and operation conditions on the system performance.
LSMs are installed under girders along the long track. In order to improve the efficiency of the LSM, long stator LSM should be divided into the specified length and the propulsion inverters should have the system topology to generate high voltage and current for LSMs. This paper presents a system topology with two-step inverter in order to generate high voltage in inverter. A LSM propulsion system is developed and implemented in Maltab/Simulink. A system model of the two-step Inverter is applied to developed model. This paper demonstrates through simulation, advantages of multi-step inverter. The conclusions can serve the design of LSM propulsion system.
It is known that reactive component of AC power in the power system gives no energy to outside and cuses enlargiment of power apparatus, voltage fluctuation and unstability of power system. The power conversion system and control system which are composed of power semiconductor devices such as tyristor, transistor, GTO and so on have been appeared as new sources of reactive power. So the cmpensation of reactive power in power semiconductor systems is one of impending problem on the point of energy conservation and inprovement of power factor. This paper treates the fundamental review of the current type power compensation system that compensates the reactive power by MOSFET inverter. This inverter detects not only the reactive power of fundamental wave but also that of all harmoics created in the power semiconductor system and is scheduled to control by sampled value.
The authors, R&D member of DAWONSYS and Soongsil University, are developing 5000kW smelting inverter system by 2007 under the sponsor from Korea Energy Management Corporation. As a part of the project, 2500kW inverter system has developed in 2005[6], and installed in real production site, and has been running for 7 months successfully. This report deals with the test result of 2500kW smelting inverter system and design for 5000kW smelting inverter system which is final target of this project.
