Under recent dramatic declines in response rates, various procedures have been considered among survey practitioners to reduce nonresponse in order to avoid its potential impairment to the inference. In the random digit dialing telephone surveys, substantial efforts are often required to obtain the initial contact for the screener interview. To reduce a burden with higher data collection costs, refusal conversion can be administered only to a random portion of the sample, reducing nonresponse (bias) with an expense of sample variability increment due to the associated weight adjustment. In this paper, we provide ways to determine the optimal subsampling rate using a linear cost model. Our approach for refusal subsampling is to predetermine a random portion from the full sample and to apply refusal conversion efforts if needed only to the subsample.

The objective of this study is to clarify how high school students recognize the mental model of the global environment and how they conceptualize the environment. Using the drawing and interview, 25 high school students participated in the survey and were asked to visualize the environmental elements of the global environment and describe the environment they portrayed. The dominant mental model in the present was Mental Model 3: the environment as a place impacted or modified by human activity. Yet, the partial mental model in the future was Mental Model 2: the environment as a place that supports human life. The implications to environmental science education are explored.

The purpose of this study is to investigate environmental factors that affect mathematics learning of students in multicultural families. For this study, as study subjects, eight elementary school students and one middle school student, who were born and grew up in multicultural families in Korea due to international marriage of Korean father and foreign mother, and their five mothers were selected. To examine factors affecting mathematics learning and interests of students in multicultural families, relationships with parents, friends, and teachers were surveyed, and mathematics attitude test was performed. After conducting one on one interview based on collected questionnaires and results of the attitude test, qualitative data analysis was performed. As a result of survey and interview, positive factors affecting mathematics learning of students in multicultural families included arousing interest in mathematics through mother's mathematics teaching in her mother language and direct teaching, good peer relation, teacher's compliment and encouragement, and lowering the burden of language in accordance with characteristics of mathematics course.

Recently, most of the construction companies is being degraded due to the overall construction recession profitability. Among them, order quantity of the architectural and engineering firms are trend to decrease except for large companies over a certain size. In particular, small companies are facing more difficulties. This study was conducted expert interview method to extract the main cause of profitability degradation of a small-sized design engineering companies. And, we are proposes a critical influence factors through survey about extracted factors. The results of this study are expect to help the competitiveness of architectural design firm.

Portable ladders are widely used as ascend and descend pathways and platforms for works at height at residential and industrial sites. In the last 10 years, 267 fatalities and 36,571 accidents related to portable ladders have been reported, suggesting a need to develop countermeasures to prevent such accidents. In this study, an in-depth focus group interview (FGI) was conducted with various stakeholders of portable ladders to survey the current usage and requirements for improving work safety. A new portable ladder called active platform ladder was developed based on the requirements suggested by the FGI. A stability test confirmed that the developed ladder is more stable than conventional ones, suggesting that it can reduce the fall accidents.

Base on the survey and financial statement on fish-paste processing company, this study aimed to estimate management efficiencies of fish-paste processing management using a data envelopment-analysis (DEA), In-depth interview and to find out their determinants. Model results show that the estimated mean management efficiencies obtained for the VRS and CRS DEA are 83.7% and 89.1%. In-depth interview results also show that efficiencies caused by scale of technical matter was greater than efficiencies caused by the scale of the company. Thus it implies that technical development is essential for achieving high-efficiency of fish-paste processing company more than expanding the size of company.

This paper aims to presents the overview of research in the sustainable smart cities development domain. It investigates the key challenges of the sustainable smart cities development that faced by the developers from different countries. The qualitative research method via the interview is conducted to collect the data. 10 experts on the sustainable smart cities development project were interviewed in this study. The results indicate that there are 12 sustainable smart cities development challenges named: (1) budgetary constraint; (2) lack of resources; (3) lack of institutional capacity to deliver technology; (4) lack of systems integration; (5) social acceptability; (6) lack of awareness level in the smart city development among residents; (7) the need to drive towards content development; (8) lack of strategically approach in the smart city transformation; (9) disagreement on standardizing the smart city model; (10) lack of overarching institution to create the governance structure; (11) lack of sustainable focused strategies; and (12) lack of the smart city operational framework. Furthermore, the solutions framework for these challenges was proposed as the guidelines to overcome or minimize them.

This paper stems from information accumulated from extensive literature review, a pilot study and a formal interview for an ongoing research on housing privatization implemented by the government-linked companies in Malaysia. Through extensive literature review, issues pertaining to housing privatisation were identified. Expectations of public sector, outcome of housing privatisation and factors influencing such outcome have also been tentatively confirmed through pilot study and an ongoing postal survey. A formal interview with a project director of independent Public-private partnerships (PPP) organization in UK has also inspired some useful lessons for the local housing industry. Different modalities of PPP from various countries show that while housing privatization pose several problems, mitigating them is possible through appropriate strategies.

최근의 조사환경은 많이 악화되는 추세이다. 일인 가구와 맞벌이 가구가 증가하면서 조사원이 조사가구를 방문했을 때 응답자를 만나기는 쉽지 않다. 개인의 비밀보호에 대한 인식의 변화도 통계조사에 쉽게 응답하지 않는 원인이 되고 있다. 조사에 불응하거나 만나기 어려운 응답자들을 대상으로 조사를 실시하기 위하여 통계청에서는 기존의 면접조사 틀에서 벗어난 여러 조사방법을 모색하고 있다. 공식적으로 면접조사를 실시하고 있는 조사에서 일부는 전화조사를 허용하고 있으며, 인터넷조사로 전환하기 위한 연구도 많이 하고 있는 실정이다. IT기술을 접목한 조사방법에는 많은 장점이 있고 우리나라는 이미 세계적인 IT기술 강국이다. 이러한 우리나라의 IT환경을 조사방법에 잘 적용할 수 있다면 조사품질의 향상에 많은 기여를 할 것으로 보인다. 본 연구에서는 IT기술을 이용한 조사방법을 중심으로 조사환경의 변화에 부응하는 적절한 국가통계 조사방법을 제시하고자 한다.

직업교육 훈련의 효율과 참여도를 극대화할 수 있는 방안을 모색하기 위한 신뢰성 높은 수요조사 방법을 찾고자 하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 정확한 수요조사는 훈련의 질을 높일 수 있는 가장 중요한 요소라 할 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 부정확한 수요조사에 의한 훈련은 낮은 참여도로 인해 비효율적인 훈련성과를 나타낼 수 밖에 없다. 수요조사는 크게 우편, 전화, 대면, 전자 수요조사 4가지 방법이 사용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 목포대학교 국가인적자원개발 컨소시엄 사업, 지역 산업 맞춤형 인력양성 사업의 훈련을 위해 실시하였던 수요조사를 설명하였고 그 중 효과적인 수요조사 방법을 제안하였다.
