A systematic review and meta-analysis of the literatures was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition intervention by dietitian. The 31 studies that were all randomized controlled trials, were identified from computerized search of published researches on MEDLINE, Embase database until January, 2003 and review of reference lists. The main search terms were the combination “dietitian”, “dietary intervention”, “nutrition intervention” or “nutritional intervention” and “effectiveness”. The subgroup analysis was performed by the publication year, quality score, type of disease, content of intervention, intervention provider, type of intervention (nutritional counseling and education/nutrilion counseling and education + diet modification), method of intervention (individual/group/individual + group) and follow-up period. Two reviewers independently selected trials for inclusion, assessed the quality and extracted the data. The meta-analysis of 31 studies based on the random effect model showed that the medical nutrition therapy was significantly effective in treating the diseases (effect size 0.1715 : 95% confidence interval 0.0938-0.2491). This study showed the clear evidence of the effectiveness of nutrition intervention through the meta-analysis. So the nutrition intervention by dietitian should be recommended and recognized as the effective therapy of treating the diseases. Also the nutrition intervention should be conducted regularly to maintain the effectiveness of the nutrition intervention. The nutrition intervention was significantly effective in treating the diseases on the random effect model (effect size 0.1715 : 95% confidence interval 0.0938-0.2491).
Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the effects and intervention methods of aromatherapy studies in nursing. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted. Nursing literature databases were searched to identify intervention studies published in Korea between 2000 and 2011. Finally, 53 articles were included in the review. Results: The most preferred application method of aromatherapy was massage. The major dependent variables were anxiety, depression, pain, and sleep disturbance. 76.5% of the studies reported positive effects on anxiety. 93.8% of the studies reported positive effects on depression. 86.7% of the studies reported positive effects on pain. 92.3% of the studies reported positive effects on sleep disturbance. Psychometric measurements were mainly used in the studies. Only 33.9% of the studies adopted physical or physiological measurements. The most prevalent physical or physiological instrument was vital signs. Conclusion: Aromatherapy had positive effects on anxiety, depression, pain, and sleep disturbance measuring when using psychometric instruments. However, there was no sufficient evidence measuring when using physical or physiological instruments. These need to be studied using well-designed, randomized, controlled trials, and should encourage the use of both psychometric and physiological measures for aromatherapy intervention in nursing studies.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify the characteristics of an intervention program for school-aged overweight and obese children through an integrated literature review. Methods: We used five databases (MEDLINE [PubMed], CINAHL, Embase, DBpia, and RISS) to search for studies published between January 1, 2013, and April 18, 2018. The studies were reviewed according to specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: Finally, nine studies were selected and classified into three types: school-based, community-based, and home-based. Specific intervention methods were identified, including exercise, diet, exercise and diet, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Conclusion: Most studies have shown the effectiveness of obesity intervention programs. However, the variables, tools, and methods of measuring the effectiveness of intervention varied, making it difficult to compare the intervention studies. Therefore, future studies should develop objective and integrated measurement tools and evaluate the effects with long-term follow-up.
Purpose: This study investigated trends in family nursing intervention studies and evaluated the quality of studies using the RCT design. Methods: This study included a total of 898 abstracts published from 1977 to 2007 in order to describe trends in family nursing intervention studies. Out of 898 studies, 153 RCT studies were selected for quality evaluation. The criteria of Jadad et al. (1996) were employed for the quality evaluation. Results: The number of RCT studies on family nursing interventions increased since 2001. Only 6.8% of the studies were published in the area of nursing. Most of the family interventions (27.1%) focused on individual family members and only 8.2% of the studies provided interventions to family as a whole unit. Nine different modes of family nursing intervention could be categorized, but none of the studies used the double blind design. Few studies utilized protocols for interventions. Only 17.5% of the studies reported the rationale for sample size. The mean score was 1.6 out of 5 according to the criteria of Jadad et al. (1996). Conclusion: Refined definitions and attributes of family nursing intervention modes are needed. Most of the studies did not meet the expectations of RCT. Thus, it is needed to improve the quality of design. More RCT studies should be conducted to provide evidence-based practice of family nursing interventions.
Purpose: The purpose of this review was to identify the current status of nursing studies on heart failure (HF) patients in South Korea and to suggest future study direction. Methods: A literature review of databases such as KoreaMed, KERIS and nursing and allied health journal were searched with key terms 'heart failure' and 'nursing' for the period from January 2000 to February 2017. A total of 35 studies including 28 articles and 7 theses met the inclusion criteria. Results: Twenty-seven out of 35 studies were observational studies on outpatients and most of the studies did not mention the ejection fraction and New York Heart Association functional classification class (NYHA class) in the inclusion criteria. Self-care and health-related quality of life as psychological factors, and physical activity as a biological factor, were used as main variables. However, we found it difficult to understand how much score indicates better quality of life because of an inconsistent and wide score. In quality assessment, 8 intervention studies had no serious flaws. Conclusion: Further studies should consider more biological and social factors influencing HF. The quality assessment with respect to nursing intervention studies in HF showed that randomized and double-blind trials are needed.
This study was done to analyze the trends of research on stroke in Korea, to suggest future direction, for research on stroke. This article reviewed 75 nursing research papers on stroke done since 1990 to 2000 by examining them according to the period of publication or presentation, research design, type of subjects, measurement variables, the intervention outcome of experimental research, and theme of qualitative research. The research were as follows : 1. 26 of 75 studies were composed of master thesis and dissertation of graduate school. There were 53 nonexperimental research, 15 experimental research, and 7 qualitative studies design. 2. Stroke patients subject' Characteristic were 44 and Family and Spouses of caregiver support were 28 of total studies. 3. Most measurement instruments used for research were translated and redesigned it into Korean that developed by foreigners, and development measurement instruments used Kang's ADL. 4. Family support and Social support was shown the frequently among correlational research. 5. Methodological research were development of an evaluation tool for the quality of nursing care in stroke patients, caregiver support of development of nursing intervention list, and Home care Nursing Intervention protocol, and development of client selection criteria based on the needs of services to be offered. 6. The experimental research of intervention were mostly education nursing intervention, rehabilitation program on functional recovery, support nursing intervention, and applying a home care protocol on the nursing care intervention. 7. Theme of qualitative research were family experience, home care in family experience, soobal experience, illness experience, hope of Stroke patients and so on. Phenomenologic methodology and Granded Theory was designed of Qualitative research. On the basis of the above finding the following recommendations are made: 1. It's necessary to develop a reliable and variable measurement tool for stroke patients and family care of stroke patients. 2. It's necessary to study the comparison of Nursing Studies of stroke research abroad, the replication to establish the effect of nursing intervention stroke patients and family care of stroke patients.

In total, 104 outcome indicators were used with 57 (54.8%) in the mental health domain, 29 (27.9%) in the social health domain, and 18 (17.3%) in the physical health domain. The most commonly used outcome indicator was self-esteem (23.2%), and the next, in the order of frequency, included self-efficacy (23.2%), acculturative stress (21.4%), and depression (10.7%). Conclusion: Most intervention studies were conducted to support the sociocultural adaptation of married immigrant women, while few intervention studies were conducted to support the health of married immigrant women. To promote the health and quality of life of married immigrant women, many health related intervention programs should be undertaken.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of early storybook reading intervention participation on the first graders' language abilities in low income families. The subjects consisted of 148 first graders and their primary caregivers. The intervention group was composed of 100 first graders who participated in the early storybook reading intervention program in childcare or kindergarten. The comparison group comprised 48 first graders from equivalent social and economic backgrounds, who did not participate in the program. The language abilities of the children were tested and questionnaires regarding the home literacy environment, children's reading activities at home and parents' perceptions of their children's reading behaviors were completed by the children's primary caregivers. The data were analyzed by means of structural equation modeling. The results indicated that early intervention participation was directly associated with children's higher language abilities in first grade and indirectly influenced the children's language abilities through the home literacy environment, children's reading activities at home and parents' perceptions of their children's reading behaviors.
Purpose: This study was to analyze the trend of research on intervention for patients with metabolic syndrome. Method: Using Pubmed, Medline, and CINAHL search engines, a randomized controlled trial(RCT) researching titles such as 'metabolic syndrome', 'intervention', 'lifestyle modification', or 'community-based' were collected. A total of 16 researches were analyzed based on the guidelines of the National Cholesterol Education Program - Adult Treatment Panel(NCEP-ATP III). Results: 1) The total period of the intervention was from 12 to 24 weeks, the frequency was 3 to 5 times per week, and the duration of each session was from 45 to 60 minutes. The types of intervention included exercise, diet, and medication. Among these types, diet was performed most frequently. 2) The outcomes of the intervention was measured with physical aspects such as anthropometric measures, body composition, or biological markers. No studies have evaluated psychosocial outcomes such as quality of life. 3) In terms of effectiveness of the intervention, anthropometric indicators, body composition, or serological markers showed positive effects, whereas results on endothelial or urine indicators were inconsistent. Conclusion: Methodological research developing comprehensive therapeutic lifestyle modification programs and intervention studies are needed for patients with metabolic syndrome. In addition, effects should be evaluated with multidimensional perspectives.
