IPTV 망 임대의 가격책정 전략 : 동태적 분석 (Pricing Strategy for Access Charge of IPTV Network : A Dynamic Analysis)

  • Due to rapid developments of IT technologies, convergence services like IPTV (Internet protocol television) are shown up. Even though expert and customer had great expectations for this innovative service, commercialization was delayed for years by the legal dispute between industry players. One of the biggest problems was that whether internet backbone providers have to share their internet network backbone with IPTV service providers (which don't have network backbone) or not. As other countries, Korean government set the rules that ISP have to offer indiscriminate access to other IPTV service provider. At the same time, internet backbone providers can charge access charge based on cost by way of compensation. Thus access charge is very critical to the IPTV industry players. The objective of this paper is to provide model that can calculate the reasonable access charge by system dynamics, based upon real data in Korean telecommunication industry.

인터넷 소매상의 가격 결정 요인: 총구매비용 관점에서의 탐색적 실증 연구 (The Determinants of Internet Retailers′Pricing Behavior - An Exploratory Empirical Study-)

  • This paper shows that internet retailers adjust the total expenses of their customer's purchase by the nominal price of each product and the delivery fee of the purchase. This paper compares the total expenses of purchasing a bundle of goods in the internet market against the total expenses of purchasing the same bundle of goods in the traditional market. The results show that the type of goods and the total expenses of a purchase, together with their interaction, determine up to 60% or 80% of the variance of the difference between the expenses up the same purchase in the two markets. The results also show that neither the expenses of a purchase nor its interaction with the product type affects the dispersion of total purchase expenses in the internet market.

Platform Pricing As a Negotiation Process

  • With rapid advancement of IT and Internet technologies, online market is surely becoming a stage of the competition among various forms of platform providers. This study show the significance of the negotiation process in the platform pricing strategy and observe several external/internal factors that might affect the negotiation power of the identities surrounding the platform. Major theories used in this study are the resource-based-view and network theory. Resources resulting in a negotiation power of the content providers and platform providers turn out to be widely scattered in their business areas - from product characteristics to the size of the content provider. End-user (or buyer) group which cannot make a strategic move for the organized development and use of resources is taking advantage of network externalities to support its negotiation power.

  • In this paper, a mathematical model was introduced to analyze pricing and quality strategies for the web sites of electronic intermediaries. Especially, I focused on the intermediary sites that initiate their businesses by providing free services such as free e-mail, search, and directory services. intermediaries may gather third party providers looking for new markets for their services, based on customers who want to use the free services. And intermediaries provide charged intermediary services to both of customers and providers. By analyzing the mathematical model, I can find optimal quality and prices to maximize the profit of intermediaries. And I can found also that intermediaries should make efforts to improve their productivity of developing their services to make profits.

  • 인터넷 트래픽 관리를 위한 IETF 차별화 서비스에서는 우선순위 방식의 가격정책이 널리 채택되고 있으며, 이러한 우선순위 방식의 서비스에서 최적가격을 정하기 위해 균형분석을 이용한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 그러나 '사용자들의 유틸리티 함수를 정확히 알고 있다'는 균형분석의 가정의 타당성에 대한 비판 또한 끊이지 않는다. 따라서 이 논문은 최적가격을 정하는 문제에 있어서, 현존하는 이론적인 연구의 기본 가정과 사용자 유틸리티 함수를 알 수 없는 현실적인 네트워크 환경과의 차이를 좁힐 수 있는 해결책을 제시하고자 한다. 기본 아이디어는 네트워크 서비스 제공자가 서비스 레벨의 가격을 조정하여 사용자들의 레벨 선택 결정을 바꾸도록 유도하고 그를 통해 더 정확한 유틸리티 정보를 알아내도록 하자는 것이다. 이 연구의 공헌은 크게 두 가지로 볼 수 있다. 첫째, 사용자 유틸리티 함수를 추정해나가는 일반적인 원리를 제시하였다 둘째, 유틸리티 함수에 대한 정보를 최대한으로 끌어낼 수 있도록 하는 가격을 정하는 방법을 개발하였다. 우리는 실험을 통해 제안된 추정법의 효과적인 성능을 보여준다.

Generic Costing Scheme Using General Equilibrium Theory for Fair Cloud Service Charging

  • Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) enable their users to access Cloud computing and storage services from anywhere in quick and flexible manners through the Internet. With the basis of 'pay-as-you-go' model, it makes the interactions between CSPs and the users play a vital role in shaping the Cloud computing market. A pool of virtualized and dynamically scalable Cloud services that delivered on demand to the users is associated with guaranteed performance and cost-provisioning. It needed a costing scheme for determining suitable charges in order to secure lease pricing of the Cloud services. However, it is hard to meet the satisfied prices for both CSPs and users due to their conflicting needs. Furthermore, there is lack of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) that allowing the users to take part into price negotiating process. The users may lose their interest to use Cloud services while reducing CSPs profit. Therefore, this paper proposes a generic costing scheme for Cloud services using General Equilibrium Theory (GET). GET helps to formulate the price function for various services' factors to match with various demands from the users. It is initially determined by identifying the market circumstances that a general equilibrium will be hold and reached. Specifically, there are two procedures of agreement made in response to (i) established equilibrium supply and demand, and (ii) service price formed and constructed in a price range. The SLAs in our costing scheme is integrated to satisfy both CSPs and users' needs while minimizing their conflicts. The price ranging strategy is deliberated to provide prices' options to the users with respect their budget limit. Meanwhile, the CSPs can adaptively charge based on users' preferences without losing their profit. The costing scheme is testable and analyzed in multi-tenant computing environments. The results from our simulation experiments demonstrate that the proposed costing scheme provides better users' satisfaction while fostering fairness pricing in the Cloud market.

  • The operation of a networked computing system (NCS), such as Internet, can be viewed as a resource allocation problem, and can be analyzed using the techniques of mathematical modeling. We define a general NCS and translate that setup into a model of an economy. The preferences of users are taken as primitives, and servers in the network are viewed as productive firms with priority input queues. Each sewer charges a rental price for its services by priority class. We characterize optimal system allocation, and derive formulae for supporting rental prices and priority premia such that the aggregated individual user demands do not exceed optimal levels and waiting-time expectations are correct. Our economic approach has the added benefit of providing a sound basis for evaluating NCS investment alternatives, using a process analogous to free entry and exit in free-enterprise economies.

An Analysis of Consumer Preferences among Wireless LAN and Mobile Internet Services

  • Wireless data communication (WDC) services are increasingly penetrating the market. The two main alternative WDC technologies are wireless LAN and mobile Internet. Services based on these technologies display differences in quality attributes such as terminal device, data transmission speed, pricing scheme and so on. How consumers choose between these two alternatives will be determined by their preferences regarding such quality attributes. In turn, their preferences will affect the evolution of WDC services and related technologies. This study employs a conjoint analysis of consumer valuations of quality attributes of wireless LAN and mobile Internet services. Respondents rate hypothetical service alternatives featuring various combinations of quality attributes. By estimating consumer willingness to pay for the attributes of WDC services, the authors predict the evolution of WDC services and related technologies along various quality dimensions, make a comparison with the results of a previous study, and draw policy implications for national-and company-level R&D strategies.

광대역 접속망에서 QoS 구현을 위한 현실적 접근법 (A Practical Approach to Implement QoS in Broadband Access Networks)

  • DSL, 캐이블 모뎀, 그리고 이더넷 기반으로 구축된 대부분의 광대역 접속망은 주로 인터넷 접속 서비스 제공에 활용되고, 최선형(Best-effort) 인터넷 서비스를 제공하며, 정액제(Flat Rate Pricing) 방식의 요금 체계를 채택하고 있어서 사용자별 그리고/또는 응용 서비스별 차별화된 통신 서비스 제공이 어렵다. 그러나 최근 멀티미디어 통신 기술, 보안 기술 등의 발전으로 최선형 인터넷 접속 서비스 이상의 서비스 품질(QoS-Quality of Service) 제공을 요구하는 대화형/스트리밍형 멀티미디어 서비스와 VPN(Virtual Private Network)의 도입이 확대되고 있다. 인터넷에서 QoS 제공을 위하여 RSVP 기반의 IntServ와 DiffServ 와 같은 다양한 기술들이 개발되어 왔다. 본 논문에서는 현재의 광대역 접속망 구조와 QoS 지원 현황을 분석하고, 광대역 접속망 환경에서 멀티미디어 서비스 지원을 위해 요구되는 QoS를 지원할 수 있는 현실적인 접근법과 구현 방안을 제시한다. 본 논문에서 제시하는 QoS 지원 방안은 종량제 형태의 과금 체계와 DiffServ 방식의 QoS 지원 기법의 결합으로 이루어지고, 기존 광대역 접속망과의 역호환성을 고려한 단계적인 접근 방안을 채택하고 있다.

자발적 독자구독료에 영향을 미치는 온라인 뉴스 콘텐츠의 휴리스틱 속성 간 상대적 중요도 분석 (An Analysis of the Comparative Importance of Heuristic Attributes Affecting Users' Voluntary Payment in Online News Content)

  • Traditionally, news was consumed only through printed newspapers and broadcasting media, such as radio and television. However, the Internet has enabled people to consume news content online. Since most of online news content has been provided for free, it is not easy for news providers to charge the fixed subscription fee for online news content. Therefore, as an alternative strategy, some online news providers have tried to adopt the Pay-What-You-Want (PWYW) pricing model, which allows users (readers) to pay as much as they want after consuming news content. As this pricing model shows some possibility to grow and replace the unsuccessful monetization strategy of online news content, we therefore examined the comparative importance of seven heuristic attributes (i.e., article evaluation, article share, article comment, article information design, article length, writer SNS, and writer information) affecting readers' voluntary payment behavior through a conjoint analysis with 379 news articles collected from online news Website (i.e., Ohmynews.com) where the PWYW model has been working successfully. This study found that article share and article length are the most important factors which affect online news content users' voluntary payment. Finally, two major and eight minor propositions are suggested based on the findings of the study. This study would suggest guidelines for how to create online news content which induces much more voluntary payment.
