  • For a simple implementation, a linear convex splitting scheme was coupled with the Fourier spectral method for the Cahn-Hilliard equation with a logarithmic free energy. However, an inappropriate value of the splitting parameter of the linear scheme may lead to incorrect morphologies in the phase separation process. In order to overcome this problem, we present a nonlinear convex splitting Fourier spectral scheme for the Cahn-Hilliard equation with a logarithmic free energy, which is an appropriate extension of Eyre's idea of convex-concave decomposition of the energy functional. Using the nonlinear scheme, we derive a useful formula for the relation between the gradient energy coefficient and the thickness of the interfacial layer. And we present numerical simulations showing the different evolution of the solution using the linear and nonlinear schemes. The numerical results demonstrate that the nonlinear scheme is more accurate than the linear one.

  • To investigate the phase equilibria and structural properties of microemulsions, we study a simple phenomenological model on the basis of the cubic lattice cell with which the oil- and water-filled cells are connected one another, respectively. The surfactant is assumed to be insoluble in both oil and water, and to be adsorbed at the oil-water interface. The Schulman condition, according to which the lateral pressure of the surfactant layer is compensated by the oil-water interfacial tension, is found to hold to good approximation in the middle-phase microemulsion. Our results show that the oil- and water-filled domains in that microemulsion are about 50-150 $\AA$ across, and depend sensitively on the curvature parameters. The phase diagram is not symmetric in this model. It may be asymmetrized intrinsically by non-equivalency of oil and water. The two- and tree-phase equilibria including critical points and critical endpoints are found.

  • This paper presents a theoretical approach of the structures reinforced with bonded FRP composites, taking into account loading model, shear lag effect and the thermal effect. These composites are used, in particular, for rehabilitation of structures by stopping the propagation of the cracks. They improve rigidity and resistance, and prolong their lifespan. In this paper, an original model is presented to predict and to determine the stresses concentration at the FRP end, with the new theory analysis approach. The model is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility requirements in and all parts of the strengthened beam, i.e., the concrete beam, the FRP plate and the adhesive layer. The theoretical predictions are compared with other existing solutions. The numerical resolution was finalized by taking into account the physical and geometric properties of materials that may play an important role in reducing the stress values. This solution is general in nature and may be applicable to all kinds of materials.

  • The present study investigates the effects of Cattaneo-Christov thermal effects of stagnation point in Walters-B nanofluid flow through lubrication of power-law fluid by taking the slip at the interfacial condition. The impacts of thermophoresis and Brownian motions are further accounted. The fluid impinging orthogonally on the surface is due to power-law slim coating liquid. The generalized newtonian fluid equation is used that obeys the power law constitutive equation to model our problem. The effect of velocity profiles, temperature for different values of n are investigated. The prandtl on the temperature distribution for partial slip and no slip cases is also observed. It is found that for larger values of prandtl number thermal diffusivity of fluid reduces and it enhance the decrease in temperature and boundary layer thickness.

  • The reliability of leadframe-based semiconductor package depends on the adhesion between metal and epoxy molding compound (EMC). In this study, the Ag surface was electrochemically treated in a solution containing silanes in order to improve the adhesion between Ag and epoxy substrate. After electrochemical treatment, the thin silane layer was deposited on the Ag surface, whereby the peel strength between Ag and epoxy substrate was clearly improved. The improvement of peel strength depended on the functional group of silane, implying the chemical linkage between Ag and epoxy.

  • Enhancement of the exchange bias and optimization of the structure have been the focus that many researchers studied, recently [1]. In this report, magnetic properties of MTJs with structure of Si/Ta (5)/Cu (10)/ Ta (5)/ Ni$\sub$80/Fe$\sub$20/ Cu (5)/ Mn$\sub$75Ir$\sub$25/ (10)/ Co$\sub$70/Fe$\sub$30/ (2.5)/ Al-O (1.5)/ Co$\sub$70/Fe$\sub$30/ (2.5)/ Ni$\sub$80/Fe$\sub$20/ (t)/ Ta (5) (t=0,10, 30, 60 and 100 nm, respectively) were investigated. The relationship between the structure and magnetic parameters of interfacial exchange coupling and interlayer coupling in as-deposited and annealed junctions was studied. The temperature dependence of exchange coupling was considered.

  • The flexural strength of $MoSi_2$ based composites reinforced with Nb sheets has been investigated, based on the detailed examination of their microstructure and fractured surface. Both sintered density and porosity of Nb/$MoSi_2$ composites were also examined. Nb/$MoSi_2$ composites were fabricated by different conditions such as temperature, applied pressure and its holding time, using a hot-press device. The volume fraction of Nb sheet in this composite system was fixed as 10%. The characterization of Nb/$MoSi_2$ composites were investigated by means of optical microscopy, scanning electron microscope and three point bending test. Nb/$MoSi_2$ composites represented a dense morphology at the interfacial region, accompanying the creation of two types of reaction layer by the chemical reaction of Nb and $MoSi_2$. Nb/$MoSi_2$ composites possessed an excellent density at the fabricating temperature of $1350^{\circ}C$, corresponded to about 95% of theoretical density. The flexural strength of Nb/$MoSi_2$ romposites were greatly affected by the pressure holding time at the same fabricating temperature, owing to the large suppression of porosity in the microstructure. Especially, Nb/$MoSi_2$ composites represented a good flexural strength of about 310 MPa at the fabricating condition of $1350^{\circ}C$, 30MPa and 60min, accompanying the pseudo-ductile fracture behavior by the deformation of Nb sheet and the interfacial delamination.

  • We fabricated the electrolyte-dielectric-metal (EDM) sensor on the base of AAO (anodic aluminum oxide) template with variation of the anodizing temperature. When a surface is immersed or created in an aqueous solution, a discontinuity is formed at the interface where such physicochemical variables as electrical potential and electrolyte concentration change significantly from the aqueous phase to another phase. Because of the different chemical potentials between the two phases, charge separation often occurs at the interfacial region [1]. This interfacial region, togeter with the charged surface, is usually known as the electrical double layer (EDL) [2]. The structural and electrochemical properties of AAO sensor were investigated for applications in capacitive pH sensors. To change the thickness of the AAO template, the anodizing temperature was varied from $5^{\circ}C$ to $20^{\circ}C$, the thickness of the AAO template invreased from 300 nm to 477 nm. The pH sensitivity of sensors with the anodizing temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ showed the highest value of 56.4 mV/pH in the pH range of 3 to 11. The EDM sensor with the anodizing temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ exhibited the best long-term stability of 0.037 mV/h.

  • The behavior of brittle fracture of electroless nickel immersion gold (ENIG) /Sn-3.0wt.%Ag-0.5wt.%Cu (SAC305) solder joints was evaluated. The pH of the electroless nickel plating solution for ENIG surface treatment was changed from 4.0 to 5.5. As the pH of the Ni plating solution increased, pin hole in the Ni-P layer increased. The thickness of the interfacial intermetallic compound (IMC) of the solder joint increased with pH of Ni plating solution. The high speed shear strength of the SAC305 solder joint on ENIG surface finish decreased with the pH of the Ni plating solution. In addition, the brittle fracture rate of the solder joint was the highest when the pH of the Ni plating solution was 5.
