A Brute-force Technique for the Stepping Stone Self-Diagnosis of Interactive Services on Linux Servers (리눅스 서버에서 인터렉티브 서비스 Stepping Stone 자가진단을 위한 brute-force 기법)

  • In order to hide their identities, intruders on the Internet often attack targets indirectly by staging their attacks through intermediate hosts known as stepping stones. In this paper, we propose a brute-force technique to detect the stepping stone behavior on a Linux server where some shell processes remotely logged into using interactive services are trying to connect other hosts using the same interactive services such as Telnet, Secure Shell, and rlogin. The proposed scheme can provide an absolute solution even for the encrypted connections using SSH because it traces the system calls of all processes concerned with the interactive service daemon and their child processes. We also implement the proposed technique on a CentOS 6.5 x86_64 environment by the ptrace system call and a simple shell script using strace utility. Finally the experimental results show that the proposed scheme works perfectly under test scenarios.

Determinants of IPTV-VOD Services Adoption (IPTV-VOD 서비스 선택의 결정요인 분석)

  • In a competitive media environment, Internet Protocol television (IPTV) has gained appeal because of its essential characteristics, 'Internet and Interactivity'. Our study aims to explore predictors that affect IPTV-VOD adoption within the context of competing media (i.e., existing multi-channel video programming services, such as cable television and digital broadcasting satellite services). In addition, this study examines if IPTV-VOD functions as a substitute for existing multi-channel services, such as cable television and direct broadcasting satellite services. A self-report survey through face-to-face interviews was conducted in Seoul metropolitan area and other six big cities. Our findings showed that primary factors for adopting an IPTV-VOD are: age of user, subjective importance of terrestial broadcasting services, real-time terrestrial broadcasting services, and other interactive service characteristics, such as time-shifting. Also, IPTV-VOD services were found to be a substitute for existing multi-channel video programming services.

  • The terrestrial-DMB (T-DMB) provides one-way broadcasting service in intial phase and two-way interactive data services through a return channel of mobile communications network are commercialized recently. The possible evolution of the T-DMB will be fully convergence between the T-DMB and other communication services such as telematics, RFID and so on. From this evolution point of view, a framework should be defined for supporting telematics and RFID applications on T-BMB platform. In this paper, we propose an integrated service model that could support RFID application services on the interactive T-DMB. To realize the model, we design a service scenario, a network reference model, functionalities of each entity, a data transmission mechanism messages, and coding rules. The service model could allow users to support the identical RFID application services over the T-DMB network even if T-DMB terminal doesn't have RFID reader capability. In addition, in the case for providing the interactive TTI(Traffic and Travel Information)service, users could utilize the current location based RFID application service using by the TPEG-Location application that forms the basis of user location referencing.   • In this paper, we design and implement practical application service using VoiceXML. And we suggest new solutions of problems can be occurred when implementing a new systems using VoiceXML, based on the fact. Up to now, speech related services were developed using API (Application Program Interface) and programming languages, which methods depend on system architectures. It thus appears that reuse of contents and resource was very difficult. To solve these problems, nowadays, companies develop their applications using VoiceXML. Advantages of using VoiceXML when developing services are as follows. First, we can use web developing technologies and technologies for transmitting web contents. And, we can save labors for low level programming like C language or Assembler language. And we can save labors for managing resources, too. As the result of these advantages, we can reduce developing hours of applications services and we can solve problem of compatibility between systems. But, there's poor grip of actual problems can be occurred when implementing their own services using VoiceXML. To overcome these problems, we implemented interactive stock trading system using VoiceXML and concentrated our effort to find out problems when using VoiceXML. And then, we proposed solutions to these problems and analyzed strong points and weak points of suggested system.

  • The objective of this paper is to analyze requirements of distributed applications which use the different type of information and support the cooperative work environment between a group of persons in interactive mode, and to provide useful common services for the development of this kind of applications. For this, Interactive Cooperative Application Service as a horizontal service on the application layer and Session Management Service as a support service on the infrastructure layer were defined and designed using the concepts and rules of the Open Distributed Processing system. Application designers may use these services for building those applications which demand the requirements we have characterized in this paper.

A Study of Factors Influencing Reading the Online Papers (인터넷 신문 이용의 영향 요인 연구)

  • This study was designed to explore behaviors of readers of online papers. First, the factor analysis of the online paper motive statements yielded three interpretable factors : informativeness, convenience, economicalness. For online paper use habits, a similar factor analysis procedure resulted in three factors : active utilization, news seeking, information seeking. Informativeness motive and active utilization habit were strongly related, convenience motive and news seeking habit related. Online papers and newspapers were found to be in complementary relationship. Internet access and newspaper reading, active utilization and news seeking habits were significant predictors of online paper use. The result of this study showed online paper readers perceived interactive services online papers offered. and want to utilize those effectively. This study suggests that online papers need to develop various interactive services to attract readers.

  • This paper investigates potential favor and intention for acceptance of digital home services through the situational inducement. The result shows that digital home services for the interactive TV, security management, family management and geographical image affect users' intention for acceptance. And it shows that favorable attitudes of the interactive TV services increase in the younger generation and internet users, favorable attitudes of the family management services increase in the thirties, and favorable attitudes of the medical management services increase in the ages of the fifties. In addition it shows that relationship between favor and intention for acceptance of digital home services affects affirmatively, which was illustrated in the coefficient value (0.661) of the R-square by the regression analysis.

  • A binary linear integer program is formulated for the problem of expanding the capacity of a fiber optic network and routing the traffic to deliver new interactive multimedia services. A two-phase Lagrangian dual search procedure and a Lagrangian heuristic are developed. Computational results show superior performance of the two-phase subgradient optimization compared with the conventional one-phase approach.

  • With the fast increasing popularity of mobile services, ubiquitous mobile devices with enhanced sensing capabilities collect and share local information towards a common goal. The recent Mobile Crowd Sensing (MCS) paradigm enables a broad range of mobile applications and undoubtedly revolutionizes many sectors of our life. A critical challenge for the MCS paradigm is to induce mobile devices to be workers providing sensing services. In this study, we examine the problem of sensing task assignment to maximize the overall performance in MCS system while ensuring reciprocal advantages among mobile devices. Based on the overlapping coalition game model, we propose a novel workload determination scheme for each individual device. The proposed scheme can effectively decompose the complex optimization problem and obtains an effective solution using the interactive learning process. Finally, we have conducted extensive simulations, and the results demonstrate that the proposed scheme achieves a fair tradeoff solution between the MCS performance and the profit of individual devices.
