  • 최근 들어 핸드폰이나 PDA 등 휴대용 단말기의 보급이 급격히 늘면서 이를 통한 미디어 감상의 수요는 많이 증가하였다. 또한, 멀티미디어 기술의 발전 방향도 기존의 단방향 서비스를 벗어나 사용자의 기호에 따라 스토리를 전개해나가는 인터렉티브 미디어에 이르렀다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 본 연구팀이 기존에 진행했던 연구에 이어서 이러한 인터렉티브 미디어를 지원하기 위한 전체 시스템을 설계하였고 이를 PDA 상에 구현하였다. 이 때 비디오 코덱으로는 JVT(H.264)를 사용하였으며 컨텐츠 제작을 위한 마크업 언어는 자체 정의한 IML(Interactive Media Language)를 사용하였다. 또한, 본 논문에서는 이러한 구현 과정에서 이동 단말기 들이 공통적으로 가지는 취약점인 CPU, 메모리 등의 한계를 극복하기 위한 방안도 살펴보았다.

OverIT: An Interactive Overlay for Touchscreen-based UI Customization by Demonstration

  • Smartphones have been widely used for various purposes and stay connected with people at all times. However, the use of such touchscreen devices can be physically restricted depending on users' context where only one hand is available to interact with the device. Even major smartphone manufacturers (e.g., Apple, Samsung) offer one handed mode, they still lack functions in the third-party applications, and the process is also complicated. We propose OverIT, a system that enables users to customize interfaces by adding new buttons on an interactive overlay which can be positioned anywhere on the touchscreen where each button serves the same functionality as an existing one. It is designed to support users to map a certain button event freely and easily to a newly created button by performing a demonstration of a button tap. We expect our system to improve the overall user experience of one-handed interaction with touchscreen devices.

Developing EFL Students' Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension Skills within an Interactive Learning Environment

  • The current study investigates the effects of an interactive learning environment on EFL students' vocabulary acquisition and reading comprehension skills. The study utilized a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 41 students enrolled in the English program at Umm Al-Qura University studying Reading in EFL course in Summer 2018/2019. The sample was randomly divided into two groups: A control group consisting of 21 students and an experimental group of 20 students. The results revealed statistically significant differences at (α≤ 0.01) between the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group in the posttest of the vocabulary test and the reading comprehension test favoring the experimental group. Finally, the study concluded with a call for more studies on modern technologies in teaching EFL skills in the Saudi context.

  • Objective: This study aims towards exploring a model of the HCI evaluation methods to improve the usability of mobile device, based on a case of a Mobile PDA system in a Museum context. Background: Mobile PDA systems in a Museum context is widely utilized for the educational purposes, but it is criticized for low usability that the device only play a role in textbooks on legs without any interactive educational activities. Therefore, the usability improvements on the mobile PDA system should be considered. Method 1: This model was developed with a combination of the expert review and the user testing, and with a combination of the qualitative and quantitative studies. In more details, first of all, a qualitative study was conducted as a combination of three different methods: 1) expert review with heuristics, 2) interviews with persons working in a museum, and 3) contextual enquiry. Results 1: The experts review provided with critical usability issues, and the semi-constructive interview helped to understand the background of the mobile device. Lastly, the contextual enquiry showed user experience problems and directions of improving the device from user's perspective. Method 2: Based on the results of the qualitative study, a questionnaire was designed. Results 2: The analysis of the quantitative study was conducted to generalize the problems, and prioritize the direction of improving the device within the limitation of the cost and time in a museum. Conclusion: This study has implications in developing an example of a HCI evaluation model to improve the user experience of the mobile device as well as finding problems and directions of how to improve the mobile PDA systems in the museum. Application: In fact, most of the studies related to the evaluation of the mobile device have been conducted in a laboratory context due to the cost and time. This paper, however, attempted to apply to various HCI research techniques from different constituents in real context.

A case study on the importance of non-intrusiveness of mobile devices in an interactive museum environment (인터랙티브 전시환경에서 모바일 디바이스의 비간섭적 특성의 중요성에 대한 사례 연구)

  • This research sheds light on the non-intrusive traits of mobile devices (Electronic Guidebook, Rememberer, I-Guides and eXspot) deployed in Exploratorium for enhancing visitor experience via case studies. In an interactive exhibition environment, non-intrusiveness was the key to supporting the immersive experience and meaning-making for visitors. The usability of hand-held devices directly impacted on the non-intrusiveness, thereby reshaping the form-factors of mobile devices. The change in from-factor has also minimized the functions of devices as the remember of museum experience. Furthermore, the role of mobile devices, which turned from a supposed multi-media guide to a mere rememberer, made them virtually impossible for realizing the "seamless visiting model" originally planned. An array of projects carried out in Exploration have achieved some degree of success such as increasing viewing time as well as reinforcing post-visit activities. However, taken from musicological perspective, increase in viewing time is by all means insufficient to be taken as proof since it is assumed to be achieved by photo-taking (i.e. MyExploratorium) rather than by interacting between visitors and exhibits. This issue --increased viewing time -- needs to be analyzed in depth. All in all, mobile devices used in Exploratorium can be defined as a learning tool/educational supporting medium based on personalization for (visitors') optimizing extended museum experience.

Analysis of Barrage Culture and User Analysis in New Media Content in the Chinese Market

  • Barrage is an interactive method based on video, and the video itself is visualized from the viewer's point of view to play people's emotions, and it already has an advantage in communication by attracting people's attention using stories and plays. Advances in digital and mobile technology have enabled video viewing anytime, anywhere. Due to the nature of the barrage site that relies on the same video content or playback to participate in video sharing through computers or mobile clients, a barrage that can express users' feelings and thoughts will be added, breaking down the limit of content acceptance by a single user. Barrage satisfy users' entertainment needs, and their influence is growing. Gradually, they are heading to offline movie theaters and TV from barrage videos on the Internet. Attempts to function as offline ammunition facilitated technological innovation for media convergence by converging mobile media with PCs and screens. At the same time, the trend of media convergence shown by coal screens is also a trend of overall technological development. A barrage is an extension of human communication skills. The properties of the barrage fit well with the need for experiential marketing (via video). It can provide a visual experience and create an atmosphere of "surrounding and watching" and eliminate loneliness. Barrage itself provides a function to comment on videos, which is a trigger point for the reason, and donation adds to the amount of information in the video, adding to the fun of the video. Through the barrage, sarcastic, teasing, and expressing emotions can bring entertainment experiences, and users can produce and communicate their shooting text while consuming the satisfaction brought by the shooting. At the same time, Barrage attaches great importance to the needs of the masses, is more individual and diversified, and has commercial significance in line with the current development trend of the Internet. As a new interactive method, barrage contains huge potential value. However, the impact of the interactive way of barrage should also be viewed from a dialectical point of view, how to solve the difficulties in the development of barrage. The way to solve the difficulties in the development of barrage is worth studying. This research will analyze the reasons for the development of barrage and the analysis of Chinese barrage websites, the case analysis of barrage videos, the exploration of the characteristics and values of barrage, and the problems in the process of barrage communication. Provide reference for the development of industrial culture.

  • 디자인의 여러 프로세스중 중요 행위는 사용자가 바라는 점을 파악하여, 제안하는 행위 중심으로 이루어진다. 사용자의 니즈를 파악하는데 있어, 사용성 평가를 활용하면, 논리적이고, 구체적인 불편요소를 파악하는데 도움을 받을 수 있다. 또한, 디자인 개선안의 효용성을 파악하는데도 디자이너에게 유용한 디자인 개발 프로세스로 자리 잡았다. 사용성 평가를 통해 사용자의 불편요소를 파악하는 방법으로는 크게 두가지 방법이 있는데, 하나는 데스크 탑 컴퓨터를 활용한 시뮬레이션 기법을 들수 있고 다른 하나는 모바일 폰을 활용하는 모습을 직접 촬영하여, 분석하는 방법을 들 수 있다. 데스크 탑 컴퓨터를 활용한 시뮬레이션 기법은 화면의 해상도와 인터렉션 방법이 상이하고, 직접 촬영 방법의 경우, 피 시험자가 카메라를 의식하거나, 분석상에 연구자의 바이어스가 개입할 여지가 많아 각각의 단점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 디자이너가 해결안을 프로토타이핑 하는 방법으로 모바일 폰의 프로세서를 활용한 로그를 남기는 방법으로 사용성 평가를 진행할 수 있는 도구를 만들고 이를 통한 사용성 평가 기법의 방안을 제안하였다. Mobile phone 의 Software User Interface 의 개선안을 검증할 수 있는 툴로 제작된 Interactive Mobile Phone Logger 라는 프로그램을Visual Basic 과 JAVA를 이용하여 개발하였다. 이를 활용하면, 디자이너의 해결안을 자동으로 JAVA Class 파일의 패키지로 생성해주고, 서버를 이용하여 패키지를 전송, JAVA를 지원하는 모바일 폰이면 어떠한 모델이든 실험에 참가할 수 있도록 제작 되어있다. 또한, 실험의 결과 데이터는 종료시 자동으로 실험자의 서버를 통해 분석될 수있도록 제작되었다.

An Implementation of an Agent for Recommending Sensitive Information on Mobile Environment (감성형 모바일 정보 추천 에이전트 구현)

  • The paper proposes information system for providing proper well known delicious restaurants as interactions with users. The system calls 'Moloke', which is an agent for recommending sensitive information on mobile environment The proposing agent differs from existing ones that guide the telephone number and the name of the restaurant. The differences are as following goals. First, the agent gets existing from users as interactive communications on mobile devices through the proper requests on each time zone such as morning, afternoon, and evening. Second, the agent also can recommend a specific restaurant for current personal states such as parties, special community meetings, bio-rhythms and so on. Among them, specially the bio-rhythm is used for recommending proper restaurants to each user. In addition to through proposal suitable design for the mobile agent design more effectively. The research used mobile environment for recommendation service and web environment for data management. Location Responsive Vehicle Digital Signage System for Visual Mobile Advertisement

  • In this paper we present the combination of location based mobile advertisement services and dynamic digital signage markets has been developing recent days to provide consumer admired visual mobile advertisement on all kind transportation vehicles. In spite of that, the digital signage advertisement content management is still not that easy to manage the content dynamically as well operation is most time consuming to handle the contents dynamically in digital signage business. As location based services is most impactful service in shopping, the location responsive advertisement on vehicle signage will be most desirable mobile advertisement to help people migrate from one place to another place for travel or stay. This paper propose a mobile location responsive digital signage system for vehicles using the GPS and wireless infrastructure integrated with digital signage system. This proposed research use the centralized digital signage system architecture for the mobile advertisement application and this system can be expanded to different vehicles for digital advertisement including buses, trucks, train, air vehicle and any other form of mobile advertising vehicles. Also, this present an effective advertisement recommendation algorithm, by which the advertisement can be selected broadcasted for the right advertisement ventures more effectively as the service requested from advertiser. This paper present the emulated experimental result to evidence the proposed dynamic vehicle signage system performed better than compared with traditional signage random advertising. The emulated result proves that the advertisement recommendation algorithm can effectively works out the targeted key audiences in location responsive region the algorithm evaluated.
