The advanced information and communication technology gives vehicles another role of the third digital space, merging a physical space with a virtual space in a ubiquitous society. In the ubiquitous environment, the vehicle becomes a sensor node, which has a computing and communication capability in the digital space of wired and wireless network. An intelligent vehicle information system with a remote control and diagnosis is one of the future vehicle systems that we can expect in the ubiquitous environment. However, for the intelligent vehicle system, many issues such as vehicle mobility, in-vehicle communication, service platform and network convergence should be resolved. In this paper, an in-vehicle gateway is presented for an intelligent vehicle information system to make an access to heterogeneous networks. It gives an access to the server systems on the internet via CDMA-based hierarchical module architecture. Some experiments was made to find out how long it takes to communicate between a vehicle's intelligent information system and an external server in the various environment. The results show that the average response time amounts to 776ms at fixec place, 707ms at rural area and 910ms at urban area.
As the intelligent vehicle market continues to develop relevant technologies and services for consumers, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of potential consumers. The purpose of this study is to identify and understand the types of potential consumers of intelligent vehicle using the Q-methodology. A Q-frame was constructed using thirty six statements from intelligent vehicle related literature concerning core technology, technology acceptance and personal consumption value, legal system and policy and social awareness. Q-sorting and in-depth interviews were conducted using thirty nine P-samples snowballed. Analysis produced four types of potential consumers for intelligent vehicle: Smart Car Consumer, Reasonable Consumer, Safety Car Consumer, and Smart Device Consumer. Smart Car Consumer value the vehicle capability of intelligent vehicle as most important while Reasonable Consumer focus upon the economics of intelligent vehicle. Safety Car Consumer recognize the safety of intelligent vehicle as most important while Smart Device Consumer highly value the IT functions provided by intelligent vehicles. Across these four different types of consumers, preventing injuries of intelligent vehicle drivers turned out to be the most common critical factor in assessing intelligent vehicle. Implications for the intelligent vehicle market is discussed at the end with further studies needed.
Studies on the intelligent vehicles that are converged with IT and vehicular technologies are currently under active discussion. A variety of communication technologies for safety intelligent vehicle services are support. As such intelligent vehicles use communication technologies, they are exposed to the diverse factors of security threats. To conduct intelligent vehicle security authentication solutions, there are some factors that can be adopted ownership, knowledge and biometrics[6,7]. This paper proposes to analyze the factors to threaten intelligent vehicle, which are usually intruded through communication network system and the security solution using biometric authentication scheme. This study proposed above user's biometrics information-based authentication scheme that can solve the anticipated problems with an intelligent vehicle, which requires a higher level of security than existing authentication solution.
This paper describes a vehicle driving-load estimation method for application to vehicle Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC). Vehicle driving-load consists of aerodynamic force, rolling resistance, and gravitational force due to road slope and is unknown disturbance in a vehicle dynamic model. The vehicle driving-load has been estimated from engine and wheel speed measurements using a vehicle dynamic model a least square method. The estimated driving-load has been used in the adaptation of throttle/brake control law. The performance of the control law has been investigated via both simulation and vehicle tests. The simulation and test results show that the proposed control law can provide satisfactory vehicle-to-vehicle distance control performance for various driving situations.
In this paper, for efficient parking control, in an Arduino environment, an intelligent parking control prototype was implemented to provide parking control and parking guidance information using HC-SR2O4 and RC522. The main elements of intelligent parking control are vehicle recognition sensors, parking control facilities, and integrated operating software. Whether the vehicle is parked on the parking surface may be confirmed through sensor or intelligent camera image analysis. Parking control equipment products include parking guidance and parking available display devices, vehicle number recognition cameras, and intelligent parking assistance systems. This paper applies and implements ultrasonic sensors and RFID concepts based on Arduino, recognizes registered vehicles, and displays empty spaces. When a vehicle enters a parking space to handle this function, the automatic parking management system distinguishes the registered vehicle from the external vehicle through the RC522 sensor. In addition, after checking whether the parking slot is empty, the HC-SR204 sensor is displayed through the LED so that the driver can visually check it. RFID is designed to check the parking status of the server in real time and provide the driver with optimal route service to the parking slot.

Inter-vehicular communication suffers from a variety of the problem on the road, resulting in large delay in propagating emergency warning. An energy depletion as well as a transmission delay may induced by traffic accident. A transmission delay are caused by direct contention from nodes that can hear each other or indirect contention from nodes that can not hear each other, but simultaneously transmit to the same destination. A variety of works have been researched to solve the transmission delay and energy consumption problem in intelligent cars transportation systems. We consider a vehicle-to-vehicle communication protocol for disseminating an emergency information that include end-to-end and energy efficient transmission. In this paper, we propose A vehicle-to-vehicle communication protocol scheme for dissemination emergency information in intelligent cars communication based on IEEE 802.15.3 wireless personal area networks. Results from a simulation study reveal that our scheme can achieves low latency in delivering emergency warnings, and efficiency in consuming energy in stressful road scenarios.

The purpose of this paper is to describe the design and implementation of an unmanned ground vehicle, called the TailGator at CIMAR (Center for Intelligent Machines and Robotics) of the University of Florida. The TailGator is a gas powered, four-wheeled vehicle that was designed for the AUVSI Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition and has been tested in the contest for 2 years. The vehicle control model and design of the sensory systems are described. The competition is comprised of two events called the Autonomous Challenge and the Navigation Challenge: For the autonomous challenge, line following, obstacle avoidance, and detection are required. Line following is accomplished with a camera system. Obstacle avoidance and detection are accomplished with a laser scanner. For the navigation challenge, waypoint following and obstacle detection are required. The waypoint navigation is implemented with a global positioning system. The TailGator has provided an educational test bed for not only the contest requirements but also other studies in developing artificial intelligence algorithms such as adaptive control, creative control, automatic calibration, and internet-base control. The significance of this effort is in helping engineering and technology students understand the transition from theory to practice.

In the ubiquitous computing environment, an intelligent vehicle is defined as a sensor node with a capability of intelligence and communication in a wire and wireless network space. To make it real, a lot of problems should be addressed in the aspect of vehicle mobility, in-vehicle communication, common service platform and the connection of heterogeneous networks to provide a driver with several intelligent information services beyond the time and space. In this paper, we present an intelligent information system for managing in-vehicle sensor network and a vehicle gateway for connecting the external networks. The in-vehicle sensor network connected with several sensor nodes is used to collect sensor data and control the vehicle based on CAN protocol. Each sensor node is equipped with a reusable modular node architecture, which contains a common CAN stack, a message manager and an event handler. The vehicle gateway makes vehicle control and diagnosis from a remote host possible by connecting the in-vehicle sensor network with an external network. Specifically, it gives an access to the external mobile communication network such as CDMA. Some experiments was made to find out how long it takes to communicate between a vehicle's intelligent information system and an external server in the various environment. The results show that the average response time amounts to 776ms at fixed place, 707ms at rural area and 910ms at urban area.

A driving load estimation method for intelligent cruise control(ICC) vehicles has been proposed in this paper. Vehicle driving load is one of the most important factors of perturbations in vehicle control and can affect the control performance critically. The effect of the control with driving load estimation on vehicle-to-vehicle distance control has been presented and investigated via computer simulations and vehicle tests. The results show that vehicle-driving-load-adaptive control can provide an ICC system with a good acceleration tracking performance. In addition, the results show that driving load estimation can compensate not only the variation of driving load but also the modeling errors.
This paper presents evaluation and comparisons of manual driving and driving with intelligent cruise control(ICC) systems. An intelligent vehicle cruise control strategy has been designed to achieve natural vehicle behavior of the controlled vehicle that would make human driver feel comfortable and therefore would increase driver acceptance. The evaluation and comparisons of the ICC and manual driving have been conducted using real-world vehicle driving data and an ICC vehicle simulator.
