The purpose of this paper is to develop instructional activity support model for capstone design in order for improving creative engineering education. To do this, having extracted the core idea of capstone design, and elicited core learning activity process, and grasped core supportive factors according to each core learning activity process that elicited, an improved instructional design model for capstone design was then developed through formative evaluation with respect to the draft of the instructional system development model for capstone design. As to major research methods, case analysis, requirements analysis through interview, and formative evaluation by experts were employed, and then research studies were undertaken. The formative evaluation by experts was carried out for two hours in 2007, and the experts participated in the evaluation consisted of total 6 persons: two specialists of capstone design contents, two professionals in field works, and two expert instructional designers in education engineering. Interview results had been reflected in this research when developing final instructional design model for capstone design. The core learning activity process of the final instructional design model for caption design, which developed in this research, comprises following stages: (1) Team building $\rightarrow$ (2) Integrated meeting between industry and academy $\rightarrow$ (3) Analysis of tasks $\rightarrow$ (4) Clarification of tasks $\rightarrow$(5) Seeking solutions for issues $\rightarrow$ (6) Eliciting priority of solutions $\rightarrow$ (7) Designing solutions and construction $\rightarrow$ (8) Exhibiting outcomes and presentation $\rightarrow$(9) Gaining comprehensive insights Also, in the core learning activity process, supportive factors that support implementation of each step were presented having been categorized into facilitator (teacher, and professionals in field works), learner and tool, etc.
This study investigated the effects of teaching-learning lesson plan using cognitive acceleration instructional strategies applied to the unit, 'The Light and Shadow' in elementary school. Two classes of the second grade elementary students (N=63) in Chungcheongbukdo districts were assigned to control and treatment groups each, and were taught about 'The Light and Shadow' for 8 class hours. For the treatment group, teaching-learning lesson plan using cognitive acceleration instructional strategies developed by this research was applied. The traditional instruction by textbook and teacher's guides was used for the control group. All students were tested with the test for concept of the shadow and the test for academic achievement about the unit. As the result of the post-test, the scores of the treatment group were higher than those of the control group. However, it was not statistically meaningful difference. The scores of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group in the delayed-post-test for concept of the shadow. No significant interaction was observed with respect to the students' gender, instruction and pre-level for the concept of the shadow. Data analysis indicated that the scores of the treatment group were significantly higher than those of the control group in the post-test and delayed- post-test for the concept of the shadow in the area of object permanence. Our research work shows the effectiveness of the teaching-learning lesson using cognitive acceleration instructional strategies for the development for concept of the shadow for elementary school students, and suggests the necessity for this kind of teaching-learning program in the fields.

It is important to understand how pre-service teachers perceive e-learning because their prior-experience with e-learning will have a great impact on their teaching after the graduation. Pre-service teachers (401 students) with cyber learning experience, which is a form of e-learning, were selected in 2004 in May and June. Survey was conducted regarding the instructional experience (working hours, tasks and evaluation, satisfaction about cyber learning and its academic achievement, difficulties and suggestions) and instructional methods (instructional activities, frequencies of interaction, strategies of interaction, collaborative activities, behaviors in the group instructional activities for knowledge development). The results are pre-service teachers tent to spend similar v slightly less working hours for cyber learning, similar or slightly less satisfaction level for the instruction and the academic achievement. It was interesting that female students were more negative than males students, considering female students have been more active in online discussion traditionally. Logical presentation of contents and instructional strategies for the cyber learning were the most wanting suggestions. E-mails and BBS for reference materials were the two most used functions in the online learning. The amount and types of tasks were satisfactory. Students did not interact freely during the group activities, they reported they did not learn much through the group activity. During the group work, they consider they do their roles with responsibility while they have slightly negative responses toward other members' contribution in the group activity. Off line meeting is strongly suggested.
This study was conducted to investigate the possibility of teaching tessellations' mathematical principles in elementary school mathematics. A survey was carried out and the two hours of the instructional experiment were developed for this study triangular tessellation activity and rectangular tessellation activity. Six fifth graders from W elementary school participated voluntarily in the instructional experiment. It was shown from the survey that teachers and students both know what the tessellation is, but they don't know what the mathematical principles really are in the tessellation. This is because they have just done the covering up-activities in class. It was seen from the instructional experiments that even ordinary students were able to understand the mathematical principles of the tessellation if teachers could throw the suitable focusing questions like 'how to move the rectangles making sides equal' and 'how to gather vertexes making angle $360^{\circ}$'. Furthermore, it is desirable to teach the rectangular tessellation prior to the triangular tessellation since the rectangular tessellation is more easy to deal with than the triangular tessellation.

For the wide spread of cyber education, it is important to understand the instructional characteristics of cyber education and its applications in the educational sites which help to cope with the practical needs and problems. This study was conducted to analyze the experience of cyber classes(working hours, tasks and evaluation, satisfaction level and instructional effectiveness, suggestions for cyber education) and use of instructional methodology (instructional activities, interaction frequencies, cooperative learning activities, instructional activities toward knowledge building). The data was collected from pre-service teachers(403) and in-service teachers(318) in June 2004. The results were that pre-service and in-service teachers all consider the satisfaction level and academic achievement level of cyber classes lower than that of FTF classes. Particularly the boring presentation of instructional materials and the inadequate instructional strategies for cyber classes were the biggest complains, and lack of interaction among peer groups and with instructors, lack of learning opportunity for cyber instructional strategies, limited group activities, lack of interaction with experts were followed. Limited types of evaluation also showed that cyber classes focus on results more than the process of students' academic achievement.

In this study, we have look through the national progress of computer science education in South Korea and analyzed the main subjects and contents of each period. We suggests the ways to evolve the current computer science education in terms of class hours for computer science education, hierarchical instructions, and the limitation of current national curriculum. In South Korea, it has been leaded the computer science education in the world since the it was promoted in earnest since 1995. Based on the recently revised national curriculum, South Korean government are taking efforts to nurture a leader through computer science education in terms of the students' future skills. However, it should be promoted to strengthen the ability of not only problem-solving ability through programming education, but also balanced computing and digital literacy through enhancing the ICT skills. In order to improve the curriculum of computer science education in elementary school of South Korea, a sufficient class hours of computer science education should be secured first.

The Code Block Based Educational Programming Language(EPL) is the mainstream tool for software education for elementary students. However, Code Block Based EPL has limitations in scalability, even though there are many advantages as an introductory tool for software education. In this study, we searched the approach of SW education using Python, which is a text-based programming language actively used in real industrial field. We developed a learning program and model using Python and applied it to the sixth grade elementary school students for 10 hours. As a result, we found that the robot-based Python learning model had a significant effect on improving students' thinking skills and confirmed the applicability of text-based programming language to elementary school students.

In order to use analog more systematically in science class, an instructional model was designed on the basis of analogical reasoning processes (encoding, inference, mapping, application, and response) in the Sternberg's component process theory. The model has five phases (introducing target context, cue retrieval of analog context, mapping similarity and drawing target concept, application, and elaboration), and the instructional effects of using the model upon students' comprehension of science concepts and motivation level of learning were investigated. The treatment and control groups (1 class each) were selected from 8th-grade classes and taught about chemical change and chemical reaction for the period of 10 class hours. The treatment group was taught with the materials based on the model, while the control group was taught in traditional instruction without using analog. Before the instructions, modified versions of the Patterns of Adaptive Learning Survey and the Group Assessment of Logical Thinking were administered, and their scores were used as covariates for students' conceptions and motivational level of learning, respectively. Analogical reasoning ability test was also administered, and its score was used as a blocking variable. After the instructions, students' conceptions were measured by a researcher-made science conception test, and their motivational level of learning was measured by a modified version of the Instructional Materials Motivation Scale. The results indicated that the adjusted mean score of the conception test for the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group at .01 level of significance. No significant interaction between the instruction and the analogical reasoning ability was found. Although the motivational level of learning for the treatment group was higher than that for the control group, the difference was found to be statistically insignificant. Educational implications are discussed.
