  • This paper discusses the application of a hybrid discretiziation method for the discretization procedure that needs to be included in discrete particle swarm optimization (DPSO) for the problem of allocating PV (photovoltaic) systems onto distribution power systems. For this purpose, this paper proposes a rule-based expert system considering the objective function value and its optimizing speed as the input parameters and applied it to the PV allocation problem including discrete decision variables. For multi-level discretization, this paper adopts a hybrid method combined with a simple rounding and sigmoid funtion based 3-step and 5-step quantization methods, and the application of the rule based expert system proposing the adequate discretization method at each PSO iteration so that the DPSO with the hybrid discretization can provide better performance than the previous DPSO.

  • This paper deals with the malfunction characteristics of the earth leakage circuit breakers(ELBs) applied by a lightning impulse voltage. In the cases of the regulation of KS C 4613 and the simulated circuits with surge protection devices, the dead operation characteristics of the ELBs against lightning impulse voltages were experimentally investigated and discussed. As a result, all the specimens(ELBs) used in this work have a cutoff performance of the lightning impulse voltage when the differential mode surges were injected at the input terminals of the ELBs owing to a surge absorber installed at the power source side of amplification circuit. Four kinds of the specimens have brought about malfunction in the condition of the lightning impulse dead operation test defined in KS C 4613, and the malfunction voltages are relatively high and are about 5-6.5[kV]. In the case of the simulated test circuit with surge protection devicesthree kinds of the ELBs have led to malfunction. Also the voltage level causing the malfunction of the ELBs is decreased by operation of surge protection devices, and it ranges from 3 to 5(kV).

  • A time-interpolation technique has been applied to the conventional FLASH analog-to-digital converter (ADC) to increase a number of quantization level, thus it reduces not only a power dissipation, but also minimize an active chip area. In this work, we demonstrated 5-bit ADC which has 31 quantization levels consisting of 16 conventional voltage-mode comparators and 15 time-mode comparators. As a result, we have achieved about 48.4% voltage-mode comparator reductions. The ADC is fabricated in a 14nm fin Field-effect transistor (FinFET) process with an active die area of 0.0024 mm2 while consuming 0.82 mW through a 0.8 V supply. At 400-MS/s conversion rate, the ADC performs 28.03 dB SNDR (4.36 ENOB) at 21MHz input frequency.

  • The frequently excessive vibrations presented in civil structures during seismic events or service conditions may result in users' discomfort, or worst, in structures failure, producing economic and even human casualties. This work contributes in proposing the synthesis of a nonlinear optimal control strategy for semiactive structural control, with the main characteristic that the synthesis considers both the structure model and the semiactive actuator nonlinear dynamics, which produces a nonlinear system that requires a nonlinear controller design. The aim is to reduce the unwanted vibrations in the response of civil structures, by means of intelligent fluid semiactive actuator such as the Magnetorheological Damper (MRD), which is a device with a low level of power consumption. The civil structures for which the proposed control methodology can be applied are those admitting a state-dependent coefficient factorized representation model, such as buildings, bridges, among others. A scaled model of a three storey building is analyzed as a case study, whose dynamical response involves displacement, velocity and acceleration of each one of the storeys, subjected to the North-South component of the September 19th., 2017, Puebla-Morelos (7.1M), Mexico earthquake. The investigation rests on comparing the structural response over time for two different conditions: with no control device installed and with one MRD installed between the first floor and the ground, where a nonlinear optimal signal for the MRD input voltage is determined. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller for reducing the building's dynamical response.

  • European Space Agency's Sentinel-1 has an improved spatial and temporal resolution, as compared to previous satellite data such as Envisat Advanced SAR (ASAR) or Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT). Thus, the assumption used for low-resolution retrieval algorithms used by ENVISAT ASAR or ASCAT is not applicable to Sentinel-1, because a higher degree of land surface heterogeneity should be considered for retrieval. The assumption of homogeneity over land surface is not valid any more. In this study, considering that soil roughness is one of the key parameters sensitive to soil moisture retrievals, various approaches are discussed. First, soil roughness is spatially inverted from Sentinel-1 backscattering over Yanco sites in Australia. Based upon this, Artificial Neural Networks data (feedforward multiplayer perception, MLP, Levenberg-Marquadt algorithm) are compared with Fractal approach (brownian fractal, Hurst exponent of 0.5). When using ANNs, training data are achieved from theoretical forward scattering models, Integral Equation Model (IEM). and Sentinel-1 measurements. The network is trained by 20 neurons and one hidden layer, and one input layer. On the other hand, fractal surface roughness is generated by fitting 1D power spectrum model with roughness spectra. Fractal roughness profile is produced by a stochastic process describing probability between two points, and Hurst exponent, as well as rms heights (a standard deviation of surface height). Main interest of this study is to estimate a spatial variability of roughness without the need of local measurements. This non-local approach is significant, because we operationally have to be independent from local stations, due to its few spatial coverage at the global level. More fundamentally, SAR roughness is much different from local measurements, Remote sensing data are influenced by incidence angle, large scale topography, or a mixing regime of sensors, although probe deployed in the field indicate point data. Finally, demerit and merit of these approaches will be discussed.

  • In this paper, we newly propose the binary CA-CDMA(constant amplitude CDMA) system using pre-coding method to solve the high PAPR problem caused by multi-user signal transmission in the CDMA system. 4-user CA-CDMA, the basis of proposed binary CA-CDMA system, makes binary output signal for 4 input users. It produces the output of binary(${\pm}$2) amplitude by using a parity signal resulting from the XOR operation of 4 users data. Another sub-channel or more bandwidth is not necessary because it is transmitted together with user data and can be easily recovered in the receiver. The extension of the number of users can be possible by the simple repetition of the basic binary 4-user CA-CDMA. For example, binary 16-user CA-CDMA is made easily by allocating the four 4-user CA-CDMA systems in parallel and leading the four outputs to the fifth 4-user CA-CDMA system as input, because the output signal of each 4-user CA-CDMA is also binary. By the same extension procedure, binary 64 and 256-user CA-CDMA systems can be made with the constant amplitude. As a result, the code rate of this proposed CA-CDMA system is just 1 and binary CA-CDMA does not change the transmission rate with the constant output signal(PAPR = 0 ㏈). Therefore, the power efficiency of the HPA can be maximized without the nonlinear distortion. From the simulation results, it is verified that the conventional CDMA system has multi-level output signal, but the proposed binary CA-CDMA system always produces binary output. And it is also found that the BER of conventional CDMA system is increased by nonlinear HPA, but the BER of proposed binary CA-CDMA system is not changed.

  • This paper describes an offset and 1/f noise cancellation technique based hall sensor signal processor. The hall sensor outputs a hall voltage from the input magnetic field, which direction is orthogonal to hall plate. The two major elements to complete the hall sensor operation are: the one is a hall sensor to generate hall voltage from input magentic field, and the other one is a hall signal process system to cancel the offset and 1/f noise of hall signal. The proposed hall sensor splits the hall signal and unwanted signals(i.e. offset and 1/f noise) using a spinning current biasing technique and chopper stabilizer. The hall signal converted to 100 kHz and unwanted signals stay around DC frequency pass through chopper stabilizer. The unwanted signals are bloked by highpass filter which, 60 kHz cut off freqyency. Therefore only pure hall signal is enter the ADC(analog to dogital converter) for digitalize. The hall signal and unwanted signal at the output of an amplifer and highpass filter, which increase the power level of hall signal and cancel the unwanted signals are -53.9 dBm @ 100 kHz and -101.3 dBm @ 10 kHz. The ADC output of hall sensor signal process system has -5.0 dBm hall signal at 100 kHz frequency and -55.0 dBm unwanted signals at 10 kHz frequency.

  • In this paper, we classify and present AI algorithms and natural language processing methods used in chatbots. A framework that can be used to implement a chatbot is also described. A chatbot is a system with a structure that interprets the input string by constructing the user interface in a conversational manner and selects an appropriate answer to the input string from the learned data and outputs it. However, training is required to generate an appropriate set of answers to a question and hardware with considerable computational power is required. Therefore, there is a limit to the practice of not only developing companies but also students learning AI development. Currently, chatbots are replacing the existing traditional tasks, and a practice course to understand and implement the system is required. RNN and Char-CNN are used to increase the accuracy of answering questions by learning unstructured data by applying technologies such as deep learning beyond the level of responding only to standardized data. In order to implement a chatbot, it is necessary to understand such a theory. In addition, the students presented examples of implementation of the entire system by utilizing the methods that can be used for coding education and the platform where existing developers and students can implement chatbots.
