While there have been many previous studies showing that an entrepreneur's personal characteristics have a significant impact on his intention to start a business, there was relatively little research on the inherent mechanisms for this. Recent researches show that entrepreneur's personal characteristics affect the entrepreneurial intention through entrepreneurial attitude and perceived behavioral control, rather than directly. This study carried out empirical research on 233 Chinese university students on what personal characteristics affect the entrepreneurial intention of Chinese university students, who are actively engaged in start-up activities recently. Based on the theory of planned behavior, we set entrepreneurial attitude and perceived behavioral control as important variables that shape the entrepreneurial intention and formed a model and hypotheses that personal characteristics of a potential entrepreneur(leadership, planning, innovation, sociality) affect the entrepreneurial intention through these two variables. We verified these hypotheses by regression analysis and structural equation model. The analysis confirmed that for Chinese university students the entrepreneurial attitude and perceived behavioral control were important antecedent variables that shape the entrepreneurial intention. It was also shown that leadership and innovation have a positive influence on the entrepreneurial attitude, while leadership and planning raise the level of perceived behavioral control. As a result, leadership forms the entrepreneurial intention through the entrepreneurial attitude and perceived behavior control, and innovation affects the entrepreneurial intention through the entrepreneurial attitude, while planning affects the entrepreneurial intention through perceived behavior control. Therefore, entrepreneurship education that emphasizes leadership, innovation and planning is required for Chinese college students as a potential entrepreneur. These three factors could also be important personal characteristics when choosing a potential entrepreneur.
The aim of this paper is to find out whether there is a difference in adopting and/or diffusing the information and communication technology (ICT) between countries. If there is, what are the primary factors that keep some countries from adopting and diffusing ICT while others do? To analyze the above problem, we adopted the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) suggested by Venkatesh et al. (2003), which consists of effort expectancy, performance expectancy and social influence. We also use the innovation diffusion functions, which are known to have the S-shape and are made up of the introduction, growth, maturity and decline phases. We do not, however, consider the decline phase, because the ICT that we are considering is not believed to be in that phase. Therefore, we researched how the three factors affect adoption in the three phases. We selected the cellular phone as the ICT, because it is considered to be the most popularly used ICT and its technology has been developing rapidly. We surveyed the cellular phone adopters in Korea, and the U.S. for 15 years from 1989 to 2003. Korea, and the U.S. represent newly developed and developed countries, respectively. For the data analysis, a survival analysis was used, as it could explain the characteristics of the potential adopters or non-adopters. We found that the ICT diffusion patterns, as well as the ICT diffusion factors, of the two countries were different. Therefore, we believe that the results of our research can be used in building strategies on reducing the digital divide gaps between countries.

The Database Industry Promotion Act was proposed at the National Assembly plenary session on July 26, 2012 and since then it has been in the process of enactment in consultation with all the governmental departments concerned. The recent trend of economic globalization and smart device innovation suggests a new opportunity and challenges for all industries. The database industry is also facing a new phase in an era of smart innovation. Korea is in a moment of opportunity to take an innovative approach to promoting the database industry. Korea should set up a national policy to promote the database industry for citizens, government, and research institutions, as well as enterprises. Above all, the Database Industry Promotion Act could play a great role in promoting the social infrastructure to enhance the capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises. This article discusses the background of the development of the Database Industry Promotion Act and its legislative processes in order to clarify its legal characteristics, including the meaning of the act. In addition, this article explains individual items related to the overall structure of the Database Industry Promotion Act. Finally, this article reviews the economic effects of the database industry for now and the future.
Recent years have witnessed various attempts of firms to acquire new knowledge. Purchasing intellectual property or merger and acquisition (M&A) can be such attempts, but joint venture can also be an effective way internalizing new complementary assets from external partners. However, due to difficulties in the formation and implementation of learning strategies, many joint ventures have failed to acquire necessary knowledge. In this respect, based on contingency theory and dynamic capability, the current research aims to investigate the failure case of knowledge transfer in an international joint venture - KEFICO established by Hyundai motors and BOSCH. Case firm optimized for hardware technology but did not establish a differentiated learning strategy and organizational structure to acquire software skills, which are intellectuals of different natures. Due to this inconsistency, it was not able for KEFICO to absorb new type of knowledge (skills related to engine control system). This study suggests the theoretical framework illustrating the case and provides some important implications for organizational learning.
Cloud Native refers to the Technical Maturity Level of a cloud environment that can utilize all cloud resources to fully function. In converting public sector information resources to the cloud, the characteristics of the cloud are not being used well. Therefore, in this study, the qualitative research method cloud expert interview technique and the quantitative research method used text network analysis for domestic and foreign related articles. Through this, we analyzed the utilization trends related to domestic and foreign cloud natives and the cloud policies of developed countries. Through previous research, the core components of cloud-native were examined, and the need for agile methodologies that were not addressed in previous studies was raised. It is believed that these core components will be applied in the public sector to contribute to business innovation through digital innovation. In addition, this study aims to provide important implications for the use of cloud native in Korea through an in-depth discussion on how to spread cloud native in the public sector.
In the last decades, technology-oriented small firms, i.e. venture businesses, have been increasingly engaged in R&D collaborations with external parties as strategic means for technological innovation. Despite ample evidence on the benefit of such collaborations for the firms, there has been less attention to examining whether and how the firms' social interactions with cooperating partners and their managerial characteristics contribute to that benefit. Drawing on the theories of social capital and entrepreneurial orientation, this study is to remedy this gap. The theory of social capital, referring to a sum of the value and potential resources embedded in social relationships of collectives, provides an integrated view of social factors among cooperating partners, e.g. strong ties, network stability, trust, reciprocity, shared vision and value. It categorizes these factors into structural, relational, and cognitive dimensions of social capital. Entrepreneurial orientation theory captures firms' managerial characteristics as a combination of innovativeness, proactiveness, and risk-taking. This addresses firms' managerial process to utilize and combine internal and external resources for wealth creation and opportunity realization. Against this background, this study investigates what roles social capital among cooperating R&D partners and entrepreneurial orientation of the collaborating firms play for collective performance improvement in R&D collaborations. In terms of the collective performance, this study adopts two indicators: technological competitiveness and business performance. Technological competitiveness refers to the contribution of a technology developed by a cooperative R&D project to competitive advantage of a firm while business performance is defined as the financial and economic outcome of a collaboration. Using a sample of 218 Korean ventures engaging in R&D collaboration with external parties, the author finds the significant effects of social capital (i.e. structural, relational, and cognitive dimensions) and entrepreneurial orientation (i.e. innovativeness, proactiveness, and risk-taking) on both of the technological competitiveness and the business performance. Further, the higher the social capital among R&D partners, the more likely it is to foster the entrepreneurial orientation at firm-level. Most importantly, the entrepreneurial orientation at firm-level is an significant mediator of the relationship between social capital and collective performance. Beyond these novel empirical findings, this study contributes to the literature on R&D collaboration. The findings' implications for management and policy are deeply discussed in the conclusion.
Today the paradigm of the financial services industry is shifting to mobile banking, and each financial company provides a variety of mobile banking services. Because of the innovation of mobile banking service, the Internet Only Bank has been launched recently. However, the actual number of users is far less than the number of subscribers. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting the intention to use of Internet only banking service by applying Task-Technology Fit (TTF) theory. In order to carry out this research, we conducted a survey on the user of the Internet only banking services, tested the measurement validity/reliability analysis and derived structural equation model. The results indicate that there are significant correlations between technology characteristics and task-technology fit and between task-technology fit and continuance intention. The results of this study are expected to provide implications for securing and maintaining the users of Internet banking providers.
This study aimed to empirically analyze the factors influencing the career search intention of college students. The research model was derived based on the Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT), considering the unique characteristics of university students. Self-efficacy and outcome expectations were investigated as independent variables, while mastery experience, verbal persuasion, vicarious learning, and positive emotions were considered as antecedent variables. A survey was conducted among college students in the metropolitan area, resulting in 217 valid responses for analysis. Empirical analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling with AMOS 24. The findings revealed that mastery experience, vicarious learning, and positive emotions had a significant positive effect on self-efficacy. Furthermore, verbal persuasion and positive emotions significantly influenced outcome expectations. However, the impact of verbal persuasion on self-efficacy was not found to be significant, and the relationship between mastery experience, vicarious learning, and outcome expectations was not examined. Both self-efficacy and outcome expectations were found to have a significant positive effect on career search intention, with outcome expectations exhibiting a stronger influence. The empirical results contribute to the understanding of college students' career exploration and provide implications for academic and practical contexts.
Many researchers and practitioners have acknowledged the need to investigate the relationships amongst various criteria of implementing total quality management (TQM) in small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMMEs). There is a need to have practical research methodologies that take cognisance of the peculiarities of SMMEs and impact on their quality management practices in developing countries. This paper presents the theoretical foundation of a proposed Generative Research Methodology and configures the specification of a TQM implementation framework in SMMEs. The methodology combines rigorous research approaches, builds theory based on the dynamics of the environment and the firms' characteristics and incorporates various TQM criteria into the design of the framework. It synchronises inductive and deductive research methods in three phases and uses various means to acquire empirical evidence and examine the dependent and independent variables of TQM implementation. It is anticipated that the methodology could help SMMEs to develop, analyse and evaluate the framework for attaining quality performance goals.
Community-Based Participatory Research(CBPR) has gained attention as a public health approach to develop community health interventions to address health disparities in recognition of the community relevance of specific health issues associated with social determinants of health. It emphasizes community involvement in equal partnership with researchers and public health professionals to address community-identified needs. The characteristics and principles of CBPR discussed in this paper highlight participatory nature, capacity development, partnership building, and process-orientation of CBPR. A 6-step process model for community empowerment is then introduced as a CBPR operationalization strategy. Mixed methods research approaches are valuable in CBPR as well as process evaluation. For the application of CBPR in Korean contexts, the Diffusion of Innovation theory is suggested as a theoretical framework for implementation. Building public health partnerships between public and private sectors to create partnership synergy is a necessary condition for successful CBPR for health promotion in Korea. Accompanying critical factors for the CBPR application include: common understanding of CBPR and its values, establishment of the definition of 'community,' 'community-based' and 'participation' in community health, development of accommodating research infrastructure for CBPR, recognition of the importance of program evaluation (particularly process evaluation), and training CBPR specialists.
