Wounds are commonly created during almost every kind of surgery, trauma and skin diseases. Delayed wound healing affects a plenty of patients and requires prolonged treatments that seriously reduce the quality of life for patients. Skin damage involving large areas or great severity can lead to disability or even death. Wound healing involves a complicated series of actions, of various tissues and cell lineages, concerning inflammation, migration, proliferation, reepithelialization, and remodeling. Sopung-san is reported to have anti-inflammatory effect and has been used for various skin diseases such as allergic dermatitis and atopic dermatitis. In this study, the hypothesis that oral treatment with Sopung-san could enhances healing potential on rat full thickness skin wounds was tested. Twenty young male Sprague-Dawley rats were used for the studies. A full-thickness skin wound was made on the dorsal skin of the rats. Either Sopung-san water extract (SPS) or saline (Control) was orally administrated every day. The wound area was measured and the percentages of wound contraction, wound healed and wound epithelization were calculated. Wound tissue samples were excised following injection for histopathological and immunohistological examination. Wound area in rats of SPS group significantly was decreased compared to Control. SPS group showed significant promotion of wound healing compared to Cotrol group in the percentages of wound contraction, wound healed and wound epithelization. Histopathological examination revealed that SPS induces neo-vascularization potential in wound healing process. SPS treatment in rats significantly accelerated cutaneous wound healing in the neo-vascularization process by increasing VEGF and $TGF-{\beta}1$ synthesis. The results suggest that Sopung-san affects key cellular processes responsible for wound repair and point to a unique potential for this molecule in the therapy of skin wounds, particularly as an angiogenic agent.

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology mitigates the emission amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and can reduce green house effect which causes the climate change. Deep saline aquifer or obsolete oil/gas storage etc. in the marine geological structure are considered as the candidates for the storage. The injection and storage relating technology have been interested in the global society, however the adverse effect caused by leakage from the system failure. Even the safety level of the CCS is very high and there is almost no possibility to leak but, still the risk to marine ecosystem of the high concentrated carbon dioxide exposure is not verified. The present study introduces the system and environmental risk assessment methods. The feature, event and process approach can be a good starting point and we found the some possibility from the fault tree analysis for evaluation. From the FEP analysis, we drove the possible scenario which we need to concentrate on the construction and operation stages.

A high-resolution numerical study is carried out to investigate the transient process of the combustion and the shock-train developments in an ethylene-fueled direct-connect dual-mode scramjet combustor. Following the fuel injection, air-throttling is applied at the expansion part of the combustor to provide mass addition to block the flow to subsonic speed. The ignition occurs several ms later when the fuel and air are mixed sufficiently. The pressure build up by the combustion leads to the shock train formation in the isolator section that advances to the exit of the intake nozzle. Then, the air-throttling is deactivated and the exhaust process begins and the situation before the air-throttling is restored. Present simulation shows the detailed processes in the dual-mode scramjet combustor for better understanding of the operation regimes and characteristics.
We fabricated rod-like poly(lactic acid)(PLA) specimens through applying various methods of equal-channel angular extrusion(ECAE) process and investigated the change of thermal and mechanical properties of specimens before and after each ECAE process. Combining three re-injection routes(A, BC, and C) and three pass counts(1, 2 and 4) allowed us to fabricate 7 different PLA specimens. Thermal properties of each specimen were measured by both differential scanning calorimeter and thermo-gravimetric analyzer. Shear strains of each specimen with respect to applied loads were measured by indentation hardness tester. Field emmision scanning electron microscopy was used to observe internal microstructure of cross-section of each specimen. The observed microstructures qualitatively supported the explanation of hardness test results. Among 7 specimens, PLA-P2A showed the biggest shear strain probably due to its dense microstructure.

A new method for producing boron-containing nanoparticles is described. Boron trichloride ($BCl_3$) and methane ($CH_4$) are dissociated through injection into a thermal plasma followed by a nucleation process producing boron or boron carbide nanoparticles. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to detect B-C bonds related to the carbide state and to probe the ratio of boron to carbon in the B-C bond structure. In addition, nanoparticles were characterized with scanning transmission electron microscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy. It was found that nanoparticles were in the range 30-70 nm and a boron to carbon ratio in the B-C bond structure of up to 2 can be reached when $BCl_3$ of 20 sccm and $CH_4$ of 25 sccm were used.

The goal of this study was to investigate the effects of a newly developed functional food containing Bacillus polyfermenticus (BP) and other physiologically active materials on the antioxidant system and the process of colon carcinogenesis in male F344 rats. Following a one-week adaptation period, the rats were divided into 3 groups and fed either a high-fat, low-fiber diet (control and DMH groups), or a high-fat, low-fiber diet supplemented with B. polyfermenticus ($3.1{\times}10^8\;CFU/day$) and other physiologically active materials (chitosan, chicory, ${\alpha}$-tocopherol, and flavonoids) (DMH+BP group). One week after the initiation of the diets, 2 groups of rats were subjected to six weeks of treatment with 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH, 180 mg/kg BW, s.c.). The dietary treatments remained consistent throughout the entire experimental period. Nine weeks after the initial DMH injection, the rats supplemented with B. polyfermenticus had significantly lower numbers of aberrant crypt foci than those in the DMH group. Injections with DMH resulted in significantly higher leukocytic DNA damage and plasma lipid peroxidation levels, as well as in a lower plasma total antioxidant potential. These effects were reversed following supplementation with B. polyfermenticus and other physiological materials. Our results indicate that a functional food containing B. polyfermenticus exerts a protective effect on the antioxidant system and on the process of colon carcinogenesis, thereby suppressing the development of preneoplastic lesions.

Combustion-stability rating of impinging-jet injector is conducted numerically using hot-fire simulation in a subscale chamber with the five-element injector head. A sample F(fuel)-O(dxidizer)-O-F impinging-jet injector is adopted. In this work, instantaneous chemical reaction is adopted for hot-fire simulation based on the assumption that mixing process of fuel and oxidizer streams is controlling. The model chamber was designed based on the methodologies proposed in the previous work regarding geometrical dimensions and operating conditions. The present stability boundaries are in a good agreement with air-injection and hot-fire experimental data. The proposed numerical method can be applied cost-effectively to stability rating of jet injectors when mixing of fuel and oxidizer jets is the dominant process in instability triggering.

Although the adverse critisism have been continued that the concrete lining need or not, most tunnel engineer agree that the concrete lining needs to increase the tunnel safety To establish the concrete lining's quality improvement method, we grasp the basic problems in lining construction process and propose the lining construction methods to increase the concrete quality This paper present a reason of initial crack occurrence in the large section tunnel (4 lane wide span tunnel), lining and an improved method for crack minimization in construction process. It is also verified verify that the proposed method can give qualified concrete lining by carrying out the concrete injection model test and the numerical analysis of concrete flow.
The high purity manganese oxides were made from the dust, generated in AOD process that produces a medium-low carbon ferromanganese and collected in the bag filter. Manganese oxide content in the dust was about 90%, and its phase was confirmed as Mn₃O₄. In the extraction of manganese, because of remaining amorphous MnO₂, the dust was reduced to MnO by roasting with charcoal. The pulp density of the reduced dust can control pH of the solution more than 4 and then Fe ion is precipitated to a ferric hydroxide. Because a ferric hydroxide co precipitates with Si ion etc, Fe, Si ion was removed f개m the solution. Heating made water to be volatized and nitrates was left in reactor Then nitrates were a liquid state and stirring was possible. Among the nitrates in reactor, only the manganese nitrate which have the lowest pyrolysis temperature pyrolyzed into β-MnO₂powder and NO₂(g) at the temperature less than 200℃. When the pyrolysis of manganese nitrate has been completed about 90%, injection of water stopped the pyrolysis. Nitrates of impurity dissolved and the spherical high purity β-MnO₂powders were obtained by filtering and washing. Mn₂O₃or Mn₃O₄ powder could be manufactured from β-MnO₂powder by controlling the heating temperature. Lastly, a manufactured manganese oxide particle has 99.97% purity.
The influence of Au/Ni-based contact formed on a lightly-doped (7.3×1017cm−3, Zn-doped) InGaAsP layer for electrical compensation of surface plasmon polariton (SPP) propagation under various rapid thermal annealing (RTA) conditions has been studied. The active control of SPP propagation is realized by electrically pumping the InGaAsP multiple quantum wells (MQWs) beneath the metal planar waveguide. The metal planar film acts as the electric contact layer and SPP waveguide, simultaneously. The RTA process can lower the metal-semiconductor electric contact resistance. Nevertheless, it inevitably increases the contact interface morphological roughness, which is detrimental to SPP propagation. Based on this dilemma, in this work we focus on studying the influence of RTA conditions on electrical control of SPPs. The experimental results indicate that there is obvious degradation of electrical pumping compensation for SPP propagation loss in the devices annealed at 400℃ compared to those with no annealing treatment. With increasing annealing duration time, more significant degradation of the active performance is observed even under sufficient current injection. When the annealing temperature is set at 400℃ and the duration time approaches 60s, the SPP propagation is nearly no longer supported as the waveguide surface morphology is severely changed. It seems that eutectic mixture stemming from the RTA process significantly increases the metal film roughness and interferes with the SPP signal propagation.
