Designing Education Contents for Chinese Character Utilizing Internet of Things (IoT)

  • Recently, the development of electronic teaching materials and the demand of digital learners have led the needs on the education contents that replace learning from character information and the change of an information design method for this. Chinese character education in the traditional schooling mainly focuses on writing and memorization (semantic memory). This way that the stories do not exist has brought the learners' recognition that Chinese character is difficult to learn. Meanwhile, for a language study such as English, cross-media development between printed materials and audio-visual materials has been actively introduced. The method that extends episode memories along with memorization through a story is widely used. Therefore, this content suggests a prototype, which is broken away from an existing way of learning Chinese character that mainly focuses on writing, one sided instruction and information cramming. This makes learners learn through a story from printed materials and animation. Furthermore, it suggests a method that extends episode memories through Chinese education contents based on IoT explaining the principle of Chinese character by combining IT technology (information and communications, IoT) and education contents on block toys.

  • A number of studies have emphasized the importance and values of reading in character education. However, there is no tool or framework for developing character education program. If teacher librarian to develop a character education program by reading should be preceded the framework for a comprehensive and systematic approach. The framework for character education program by reading is required to develop a program. The framework must be considered with a character factor and reading elements. The purpose of this study is to establish a framework that will help teacher librarian to develop a character education program by reading. This study analyzed on construction elements of character, reading material for character education, reading strategies, teaching methods. Then, this study propose a framework for developing character education program based on the analysis information. The proposed framework in this study consists of construction elements of character, reading material for character education, reading strategies, teaching methods.

  • In this paper, we propose the importance of character education in nursing curriculum. It is quite difficult to define what character is. It is solely because a person's character is very abstract yet comprehensive at the same time. Nevertheless, the East defines character as someone's personality that he or she is naturally born with. Someone's character contains two elements: what he or she was born with, a nature, and how the person has and is to become. The nature is difficult to change through education since one is born with such disposition. However, another half of one's character can be educated to be reformed and developed in the right manner. And this specific education is called character education. Today in Korea, education to cultivate one's character has become a cause celebre, especially when evaluating a nursing department's certification. To be a good nurse, one must not only be skillful but also has the ability to help others or make ethical and clinical judgments. Yet, most nursing departments in Korea out there are overwhelmingly focused on the curriculum related to obtaining licenses and to become a registered nurse. Thus, this is to suggest alleviating such a stress and expanding the curriculum for character education.

An Empirical Study on the Sub-factors of Middle School Character Education using Social Network Analysis (사회 네트워크 분석을 이용한 중등 인성 교육의 세부요인에 관한 실증 연구)

  • The advancements in scientific technology and information network in the 21st century allow us to easily acquire a desired knowledge. In the midst of today's informatization, globalization, and cultural diversification, adolescents experience emotional confusion while accommodating diverse cultures and information. This study aimed at examining three aspects of character suggested by the Ministry of Education, which are ethics, sociality, and emotion, and the actual sub-factors required for character education. To that end, a survey was conducted with adolescents who were at a character-building age, and social network analysis (SNA) was performed to determine the effect of character education on the sub-factors. The statistics program SPSS was used to investigate the general traits of the subjects and the validity of the research variables. The 2-mode data that were finally selected were converted to 2-mode data using NetMinder 4, which is a network analysis tool. Furthermore, a data network was established based on a quasi-network that represents the relationships between ethics, sociality, and emotion. The results of this study showed that the subjects considered honesty and justice to be the sub-domains of the ethics domain. In addition, they identified sympathy, communication, consideration for others, and cooperation as the sub-domains of the sociality domain. Finally, they believed that self-understanding and self-control were the sub-domains of the emotion domain.

  • This study has been pointed out that Information Communication Ethics Education has been mentioned only about a cognitive factor. Then the purpose of this study is verify the effects through the Instructional design of Information Communication Ethics that was compensate the problem. To achieve this, it was included all the cognitive, emotional and active factor of Integrated Character by Thomas Lickona. It has been modified that Information Communication Ethics Test of Lee Chae Young(2009) to be included all the factors of Integrated Character to verify the designed instruction. It has been designed that each steps included the component of Integrated Character using Gerlach & Ely systematic instruction model then, the designed instruction has been applied to the secondary school and verified the effectiveness. As a result, it has been proved that Experimental group is more effective than Control group.

Character building through reading (독서에 의한 인격형성)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness and value of reading, the role of reading for character building and reading education for the character building instruction. A great book can change a person's life and future. Especially, reading in the juvenile period is important because of their intellectual curiosity and sensitivity. The results of the study were as follows. (1) In order to solve the problem of the dehumanization, and the confusion of the sense of value among young adults, we should enrich and cultivate the character of young adults through the reading education. (2) The effects of reading for personality are verbal effects, experimental effects, cultural effects, reformational effects and recreational effects etc. (3) The value of reading in the past were inspiration, information and recreation. But, in recent times, the interest in therapeutic value of reading is increasing. The theraputic value of reading is identification, catharsis and insights of one's problem through the character in the works. (4) The role of reading for the character building are the assistance of self-realization, the promotion of self-regulation and the assistance of self-understanding. (5) Psychological needs causing reading activity are the desire to escape from reality, better socialization, recreation and pleasure. (6) The mechanism of character building through the reading are the enlargement of experience, better adjustment to the environment and the society. (7) Reading education for the solution of developmental tasks of the young adults is important. The standard reading lists of Japan Reading Society, the list compiled by Lee Kyung-Sik and the list of Park Yong Doo are the example of the selected reading list for the solution of developmental tasks.

An Analysis on Awareness of the Importance of Character Education, Character Development Level and Needs for Character Education in Dental Hygiene (일부 치위생과 학생들의 인성교육에 대한 중요도 인식 및 인성발달 수준, 인성교육의 요구도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of dental hygiene students on the importance of character education, their level of character development and needs for that education in an effort to provide information on how to ensure the efficiency of character education. The subjects in this study were 180 selected dental hygiene students who took a course in "college life and character." After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed by a SPSS 23.0. The findings of the study were as follows: First, as for awareness of the importance of character education, they placed the most importance on the virtue of filial piety and attached the least importance to the virtue of courage. Second, regarding awareness of the importance of character education by general characteristics, what type of high school they graduated from and whether they were religious or not made no differences to that, and there were differences according to academic year. Third, as to the current level of character development, they were most excellent in etiquette and caring. Fourth, the characteristics of the subjects made no differences to their current level of character development. Fifth, in regard to correlation between awareness of the importance of character education and the current level of character development, there was a positive correlation between it and every item except faithfulness. Sixth, as a result of analyzing their needs for character education, they gave top priority to moderation, followed by filial piety, faithfulness, responsibility, courage, wisdom, law abiding, justice, etiquette, respect, cooperation and caring. The results of this study should be used as basic data for character education.

Robust Multi-Layer Hierarchical Model for Digit Character Recognition

  • Although digit character recognition has got a significant improvement in recent years, it is still challenging to achieve satisfied result if the data contains an amount of distracting factors. This paper proposes a novel digit character recognition approach using a multi-layer hierarchical model, Hybrid Restricted Boltzmann Machines (HRBMs), which allows the learning architecture to be robust to background distracting factors. The insight behind the proposed model is that useful high-level features appear more frequently than distracting factors during learning, thus the high-level features can be decompose into hybrid hierarchical structures by using only small label information. In order to extract robust and compact features, a stochastic 0-1 layer is employed, which enables the model's hidden nodes to independently capture the useful character features during training. Experiments on the variations of Mixed National Institute of Standards and Technology (MNIST) dataset show that improvements of the multi-layer hierarchical model can be achieved by the proposed method. Finally, the paper shows the proposed technique which is used in a real-world application, where it is able to identify digit characters under various complex background images.

  • Today, one of the most important reasons that 3D software becomes a core part of the essential tools in the video contents field like the movies, animation, CF, motion graphic, games and etc. is that they can save budget of contents makings and can produce better effects than conventional methods like miniature, matt painting, extra mobilization and etc. and can save time and have the merit that they are not limited in space. In this paper, I analyzed IK(Inverse kinematics) system characteristics for the efficient education of 3D character animation particularly most used of 3D applications which is now supposed to be nearly necessary elements in game, animation, movie and contents. And by analyzing merits and demerits of each tool on Bone, Character studio and Character Animation Toolkit, systems which are most used practically in the various Inverse kinematics tools, I showed the result of analyses about the fact that educating which of the above three Inverse Kinematics tools is helpful and beneficial for the students for the efficient education in the university where should teach much in the limited time

A Study on the Effects of Classical Literature Reading Education on Youth's Character and Competency Development (인문고전 독서교육이 청소년의 인성과 역량 증진에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this research is to develop & operate classical literature reading education program for youth, to verify the difference in effect with respect to the influence of classical literature reading education on youth's character and competency development and to clarify the difference in effect depending on intention to participate in classical literature reading education and instruction method. Main result of research is summarized as follows. First, after classical literature reading education was found to be effective to the character and the youth's competency development increased. Second, verifying the effect of classical literature reading education on intention to participate voluntarily, it was found to be more effective for group of voluntary participation than group of involuntary participation. Third, verifying the effect of classical literature reading education depending on instruction method, it was found to be more effective for group of discussion lesson based on character key words than group of lesson based on recital.
