A study on the competitiveness and analysis of research and development cluster in Seoul Seocho region - competitiveness and potential infra of Yangjae R&D cluster (서울시 서초구의 클러스터경쟁력 분석에 관한 연구: 양재 R&D 클러스터 조성을 중심으로)

  • This study focused on the competitiveness analysis of industrial cluster using econometric method and competency analysis method to measure the situation of Seocho-gu industrial cluster and Yangjae R&D cluster at Seoul. The econometric method used the data such as the number of firms, the number of employee, GRDP. The competency analysis method measured the level of agglomeration of cluster for years through LQ(Location quotient) index. In addition, the characteristics and structure of each industry in Secho-gu and Yangjae-dong R&D cluster. The circumstance of location and business, the competency of potential ability of industries were analysed by SWOT. In sum, this study has the following conclusion. First, Seocho-gu and Yangjae-dong region has an advantage in the circumstance for R&D related industry and man power. Second, Seocho-gu and Yangjae-dong region has a good potential for development in R&D related industries. These region has a good relationship the four major R&D related industry of Seoul. Third, these region also has a advantage in the potential development of R&D related researchers in the corresponding industries.

  • This study described partial discharge(PD) distribution analysis between the XLPE(Cross-Linked PolyEthylene)and EPDM(Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) interface with unsupervised classification. The ${\phi}-q-n$ patterns were analyzed using phase resolved partial discharge(PRPD). K-means cluster analysis forms a cluster based on similarities and distances among scattered individuals, and analyzes the characteristics of the formed clusters, dividing the multivariate data into several groups according to the similarity of each characteristic, Is a statistical analysis that makes it easier to navigate. It was confirmed that the phase angle of the cluster with the maximum discharge charge was concentrated around $0^{\circ}$ and $180^{\circ}$ at 30 kV after the initial phase distribution localized around $90^{\circ}$ and $300^{\circ}$ expanded to the whole phase angle according to the voltage rise. The Euclidean distance between the center of gravity and the discharge charge in the ${\Phi}-q$ cluster increased with increasing applied voltage.

  • This study is about an apparel industry in Guro-Gasan where is growing up to the one of the apparel industry cluster beyond an agglomeration in Seoul. The purpose of this study is twofold: (1) to define industrial functions and roles of Guro-Gasan in a value chain of the apparel industry; and (2) to understand whether an industrial cluster is built on the local networks. This study reviewed formation and transitions of its local industries and industrial size, characteristics, spatial distribution and spatial properties using GIS analysis and field surveys. Through in-depth interviews, it analyzed the production system and spatial dispersion of the value chain to understand its functions and roles.

  • Since the early 1990s, cluster-based policies have been celebrated as the basis of successful regional industrial and technological development strategy by encouraging regional innovation and technological spillover. Most recently, the Korean government has also begun to seek to initiate some strategies for promoting industry clusters. However, it is problematic that the cluster policies still focus on attracting related firms and establishing supporting agencies and physical infrastructures rather than improving social and institutional dimensions for cluster development such as social capital, networks, social learning capabilities, the governance of regional innovation. In this paper we attempt to elucidate social and institutional dimensions for cluster development and suggest some policy agenda to promote innovative cluster.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of animation cluster in Chuncheon. It has been over 10 years since Chuncheon was designated as the cluster raising the animation industry. The Chuncheon cluster is trying to differentiate through managing several unique strategies. In order to realize the micro-regionalism, it focuses on co-production not with domestic companies but with foreign companies. Especially, for establishing the whole concrete production pipe-line, it concerns to make co-production contracts dealing with not only for the main production part but also pre- and post-production parts. Based on these production experience, it is building the production complex in the name of ICT convergence cluster. The changed role of the policy-management organization(Gangwon Information & Multimedia Corporation, GIMC) enables these differentiated strategies by itself. The establishment of the Asian Animation Round(AAR) is recognized as the characteristic of macro-regionalism. Starting from the year of 2006, the AAR tries to place Chuncheon as the hub of animation production in Asia and focuses on constructing the network of animation production countries that have developed their production capabilities through sub-contracts. This type of production and market bloc has not been made before.

A Study on the Relocation of A New Industry Cluster Firm in the Non-Metropolitan Region: The Case of the Bio-Health Cluster in the Chungcheong Region (비수도권 신산업 클러스터 기업의 역외 이전에 관한 고찰: 충청권 바이오헬스 기업 사례)

  • This study conducted an in-depth case study of bio-health companies in the Chungcheong region to examine the factors influencing the relocation of new industry cluster firms in non-metropolitan areas. Focusing on the experiences and perceptions of key stakeholders within the cluster, which have been relatively overlooked in previous research, this narrative research explored the factors that lead entrepreneurs who initially founded their businesses in non-metropolitan areas to relocate to metropolitan areas as well as the decision-making process involved. Through interviews with 61 key stakeholders within the Chungcheong cluster, it was observed that entrepreneurs receive various benefits from local stakeholders during the initial stages of entrepreneurship. However, as the company enters a phase of significant growth, matters such as securing specialized talent and market accessibility lead them to contemplate relocating to metropolitan areas. Based on case studies of companies that both remained and relocated in the Chungcheong region, this study examines structural drawbacks within non-metropolitan clusters and provides policy implications.

  • Sometimes called the Silicon Fen, the Cambridge cluster is well known as the most innovative hi-tech cluster in the world. This paper attempts to explore the evolutionary dynamics of the Cambridge cluster, drawing upon the triple-helix approach. To understand the evolutionary dynamics of the Cambridge cluster, it is important to examine the role and impact of the University of Cambridge, which is conceived as one of the best higher educational institutions in the world. The Cambridge cluster has been evolved on the basis of a strong university-industry relationship. University spin-outs have a long tradition in Cambridge with the history of more than a century, and they have played a critical role in making the cluster more innovative. Business networks and social capital molded for a long time in the region become a foundation for active local spin-out activities. However, since 2000 the central government started steadily to require British universities to be an entrepreneurial university, with the purpose of the reduction of university subsidies. As a result of this, spin-out activities in the Cambridge cluster show a sharp decline, which is a factor of threatening the dynamic evolution of the cluster.

An Empirical Study on Value-Chain Network of Manufacturing and Implications on Cluster Policy (제조업의 가치사슬 네트워크 분석과 클러스터정책에 대한 시사점)

  • This study investigates how characteristics in the value-chain industrial cluster affect the R&D investment and the output of firms in each industries. For this, we try to extract the inter-industrial networking structure from the input-output table in which 17 manufacturing sectors are included. In particular, we will give shape to the "unit structure" which shows the intermediary flows of goods and services between industries in order to get an unit of final demand in a certain industry. Using this "unit structure", we can try the inter-industrial networking analysis and get some indices of centrality and centralization related to the characteristics of each industries in the value-chain industrial cluster. The results show that the centrality in the value-chain industrial cluster does not have any consequence for the R&D investment and the output in each industries. However, there is a correlation between the centralization in the value-chain industrial cluster and the R&D investment and the output of firms in each industries. These results may be very suggestive in bringing up a new frame of industrial cluster policy in a macro level.

Judging from this, we can help to make full use of resources for the network analysis in Cluster and establish the Network Strategy by Structure comparison between the structure of industry-Cluster and ideal Business-support networks on the basis of the analysis from the Core-success-factor

Innovation Milieu and Cluster Formation of Cultural Industries in Gyeongbuk (경북 문화산업의 혁신환경과 클러스터 구축방향)

  • Strategies for regional development has been implemented by facilitating the cultural industry since the mid 1990s. The government of Gyeongbuk attempted to establish the cluster of cultural industries and to enhance the capability of cultural industries. However, infrastructure of the industries is still weak. The most cultural industries are small-sized enterprises and are in low value-added production link in the value chain. This research examines the situation of cultural industries and then to recommend the direction of cluster of cultural industries in Gyeongbuk. The cluster of cultural industries in Gyeongbuk needs to be decentralized integration. Cultural industries in Gyeongbuk are found in dispersed regions with own cultural and industrial characteristics. The hub of cluster of cultural industries should be formulated to promote network among cultural industrial complexes in dispersed regions; thus, the hub is able to provide knowledge and information for the cultural industrial firms in Gyeongbuk. The supporting center as the hub of cluster has to input more energy to establish the on-line and off-line network among firms, and between firms and innovation agencies such as universities, cultural industrial organizations, and local governments. The cultural industrial cluster should be linked with IT cluster in Gumi and cluster of Daegu cultural industries to upgrade the value chain of cultural industries.
