A Study on the Pulse Generator using PFN (PFN을 이용한 펄스발생기의 연구)

  • This paper deals with the pulse generator using PFN(Pulse Forming Network), and its operation characteristics and application. Two kinds of pulse generator were composed of the best appropriate condition circuit. The output current of the one pulse generator has the rise time of 28 ns and the pulse duration of $7{\mu}s$. The other pulse generator has high current of about 2kA. By use of the former generator with rapid rise time, the impulse impedance characteristic of ground electrodes was investigated with measuring the ground potential rise when the pulse current was injected into the ground electrode.

  • This paper describes the long duration withstand current characteristics of ZnO varistors. Two ZnO varistors were manufactured with general ceramic production methods and three abroad varistors were also prepared to be compared. During long duration withstand test, sample 1 was destroyed at 4th impulse current but the rest passed test. Before and After the test, the residual voltage variation of varistors passed was below 5%. According to the test results, it is thought that the manufacturing process such as insulating coating, sintering condition and soldering method should be improved.

  • This paper dealt with the performance evaluation and the diagnostic techniques of lightning arresters for DC electric traction vehicle. Field Measurements on the protective operation of lightning arresters against surge currents were carried out on running vehicles to acquire the data necessary for the diagnosis. The frequency and the magnitude of surge events were analyzed. Surge currents of $1\sim3$ times were recorded in one running service route and their magnitudes were ranges of $150A\sim2kA$. Also, an acceleration experiment on a lightning arrester by the standard lightning impulse current of 8/20 us and 5 kA was performed to know the aging characteristics. After the surge current application of 3,000 times, the reference voltage decreased by 4.5 %, and the leakage current was below 10 uA at the continuous operating voltage and about 50 uA at the rated voltage. From the experimental results, we propose a decision level of leakage current for the arrester used in this paper and designed an arrester tester which analyzes arrester condition by the magnitude of leakage current.

  • This paper describes the magnetizer design of highly saturated magnetic circuit by high external field. The magnetizer is loaded by a capacitor bank with impulse currents to reach high magnetic flux-density(typically 5[T]). Magnetizing current come out from magnetizing system is simulated by analytic method and transient FEM, also field distributions of the magnetizer are analyzed.

  • This paper presents evaluation of the electrical uniformity of zinc oxide varistors for lightning arresters. Two types of varistors were prepared which are a domestic varistor destroyed in the long duration current impulse withstand test and a new imported varistor. The domestic varistor exhibited good electrical uniformity except destroyed parts, but the imported varistor showed the worse results.

  • This is the abstract of lecture on Electro-optic characteristics of D-KDP crystal and its application for high speed shutter made by Dr. Naomi Furuya; The professor of Yamanashi University in Kofu Japan on March 31, 1973 for KEEI in the auditorium of Korea Electric Company. His lecture is listened by KEEI members that KDP Z-cut crystal can be utilized as a high speed shutter of 10$^{-6}$ second, combining special camera and 2-3KV electrical impulse generator and also recording slide photographs on tungoten lamp crystal voltage and melting fuse phenomena due to over-current taken by this special equipment had been demonstrated.

  • This paper deals with the problem of the magnetizing yoke fixture. The experimental test has been performed using the yoke fixture made of bakelite as well as ferromagnetic. The magnetizing current is the most essential criterial factor for delivering the impulse energy to the magnetized material, i.e ferrite core. The yoke of nonferromagnetic has shown its better performance in experimental results as well as in the finite element analysis.

  • In this paper, in ordor to examine the relevant technical facts which are very instructive to revise the domestic standard for lightning protection systems, standards and technical guideline for the protection of structure against lightning were reviewed, and several issues of the domestic standards were experimentally investigated. As a consequence, the insulator of relatively low implse voltage and a large percentage of lighting rods is flashovered by relatively low impulse voltage and a lage percentage of lighting current flows through supporting mast. Thus the potential gradient in the vicinity of supporter for lighting rods is extremely increased and the role of lighting propection systems is nullified. It seems obvious that the flashover of insular supporting lighting rod can range from erratic operation of microelectronic devices to minor physical ham or even death, or costly damage electrical equipment.

Measurement of Transient Current by using the Rogowski Coil (로고우스키코일을 이용한 과도전류의 측정)

  • This paper presents the operation principle and design rule of the Rogowski coil which can measure the transient current and describes the calibration and application experimental results for performance evaluation. It is obtained that the response curves of the Robowski coil with the turns of 300 and the passive integrator to sinusoidal input give a good linearity up to the frequency of 500 [kHz] and the current measurement system gaving the Rogowski coil is the frequency bandwidth of 40 [Hz]~700 [kHz]. As an application experiment for the fabricated modeling power transmission line, the impulse current, which limitates the direct lightning return stroke to overhead ground wire, is measured by the Rogowski coil and its fast Fourier transformation is carried out. The equivalent circuit of the Rogowski coil considering the stray capacitances is proposed, and the theoretical analysis is in good agreement with the measurement results. Also, it is found that for high frequency domain the stray capacitance such as a distributed capacitance to the shield and the capacitance between windings of coil should be considered in designing the Rogowski coils since the resonance originates from the stray capacitance and the self-inductance of the Rogowski coil.
