We propose an implicit numerical implementation for Leblond's transformation plasticity constitutive equations , which are widely used in welded steel structure. We apply Euler backward scheme rule to integrate the equations and determine the consistent tangent modulus. The implementation may be used with updated Lagrangian formulation. we test a simple butt-welding process to compare with SYSWELD and discuss the accuracy.
A fuzzy inference technique for real-time textile animation without integration at textile model based Mass-Spring model is introduced. Until now many techniques have used the Mass-Spring model to describe elastically deformable objects like textile. A textile object is able to represent as a deformable surface composed of spring and masses, the movement of textile surface which is analysed through the numerical integration by the fundamental law of dynamics such as Hooke's law. However, the integration methods have 'instability problems' if the explicit Euler's method is applied or 'large amounts of calculation' if the implicit Euler's method is applied. A simple and fast animation technique for Mass-Spring model of a textile with fuzzy inference is proposed. The stabilized simulation result is obtained the state of each mass-point in real-time for the n of mass-points by a relatively simple calculation.

A numerical study is carried out for the detonation wave propagation through a T-branch. The T-branch is a crucial part of the combustion wave igniter, a novel concept of rocket ignition system aimed for the simultaneous ignition of multiple combustion chambers by delivering detonation waves. Euler equation and induction parameter equation are used as governing equations with a reaction term modeled from the chemical kinetics database obtained from a detailed chemistry mechanism. Second-order accurate implicit time integration and third-order space accurate TVD algorithm were used for solution of the coupled equations. Over two-million grid points enabled the capture of the dynamics of the detonation wave propagation including the degeneration and re-initiation phenomena, and some of the design factors were be obtained for the CWI flame tubes.
A soft recovery system (SRS) is a device that stops a high speed projectile without damaging the projectile. The SRS is necessary to verify the shock resistant requirements of microelectronics and electro-optic sensors in smart munitions, where the projectiles experience over 20,000 g acceleration inside the barrel. In this study, a computer code for the performance evaluation of a SRS based on ballistic compression decelerator concept has been developed. It consists of a time accurate compressible one-dimensional Euler code with use of deforming grid and a projectile motion analysis code. The Euler code employs Roe's approximate Riemann solver with a total variation diminishing (TVD) method. A fully implicit dual time stepping method is used to advance the solution in time. In addition, the geometric conservation law (GCL) is applied to predict the solutions accurately on the deforming mesh. The equation of motion for the projectile is solved with the four-stage Runge-Kutta time integration method. A small scale SRS to catch a 20 mm bullet fired at 500 m/s within 1,600 g-limit has been designed with the proposed method.

In recent years, it becomes a very important issue to consider the mechanical systems such as high-speed vehicles and railway trains moving on elastic beam structures. In this paper, a general approach, which can predict the dynamic behavior of constrained mechanical system and elastic beam structure, is proposed. Also, various supporting conditions of a foundation support are considered for the elastic beam structures. The elastic structure is assumed to be a nonuniform and linear Bernoulli-Euler beam with proportional damping effect. Combined Differential-Algebraic Equations of motion are derived using multibody dynamics theory and Finite Element Method. The proposed equations of motion can be solved numerically using generalizd coordinate partitioning method and Predictor-Corrector algorithm, which is an implicit multi-step integration method.

RANS solver has been developed to solve the flows past a ship with a drift angle. The solver employs a finite volume method for the spatial discretization and Euler implicit method for the time integration. Turbulent flows are simulated by Spalart-Allmaras one-equation model. Developed solver is applied to analyze the hydrodynamic forces and flows of two tankers with a same forebody but different afterbodies. The computed flows and hydrodynamic forces are compared with the measured flows and captive model test data. The computed results show good agreements with experimental data and show clearly the effects of stern hull form on the hydrodynamic forces and the flows.
The delta-formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations has been popularly used in the aerodynamics area. Implicit algorithm can be easily implemented in that by using Taylor series expansion. This formulation is extended for an unsteady analysis by using a dual-time integration. In the meanwhile, the incompressible flows with heat transfers which occur in the area of thermo-hydraulics have been solved by a segregated algorithm such as the SIMPLE method, where each equation is discretised by using an under-relaxed deferred correction method and solved sequentially. In this study, the dual-time delta formulation is implemented in the segregated Navier-Stokes solver which is based on the collocated cell-centerd scheme with un unstructured mesh FVM. The pressure correction equation is derived by the SIMPLE method. From this study, it was found that the Euler dual-time method in the delta formulation can be combined with the SIMPLE method.
The successful performance of any numerical geotechnical simulation depends on the accuracy and efficiency of the numerical implementation of constitutive model used to simulate the stress-strain (constitutive) response of the soil. The corner stone of the numerical implementation of constitutive models is the numerical integration of the incremental form of soil-plasticity constitutive equations over a discrete sequence of time steps. In this paper a well known two-surface soil plasticity model is implemented using a generalized implicit return mapping algorithm to arbitrary convex yield surfaces referred to as the Closest-Point-Projection method (CPPM). The two-surface model describes the nonlinear behavior of coarse-grained materials by incorporating a bounding surface concept together with isotropic and kinematic hardening as well as fabric formulation to account for the effect of fabric formation on the unloading response. In the course of investigating the performance of the CPPM integration method, it is proven that the algorithm is an accurate, robust, and efficient integration technique useful in finite element contexts. It is also shown that the algorithm produces a consistent tangent operator $\frac{d\sigma}{d\varepsilon}$ during the iterative process with quadratic convergence rate of the global iteration process.

We will focus on the horizontal Bridgman growth system to analyze the transport phenomena numerically, because the simple furnace system and the confined growth environment allow for the precise understanding of the transport phenomena in solidification process. In conventional melt growth process, the dopant concentration tends to vary significantly along the crystal. In this work, we propose the modification of crucible geometry for improving the productivity of silicon single-crystal growth by controlling axial specific resistivity distribution. Numerical analysis has been performed to study the transport phenomena of dopant impurities in conventional and proposed Bridgman silicon growth using the finite element method and implicit Euler time integration. It has been demonstrated using mathematical models and by numerical analysis that proposed method is useful for obtaining crystals with superior uniformity along the growth direction at a lower cost than can be obtained by the conventional melt growth process.
An efficient Gauss-Seidel time integration scheme is developed for solving the Euler and Navier-Stokes equations on unstructured meshes. Roe's FDS is used for the explicit residual computations and van Leer's FVS for evaluating implicit flux Jacobian. To reduce the memory requirement to a minimum level, off-diagonal flux Jacobian contributions are repeatedly calculated during the Gauss-Seidel sub-iteration process. Computational results based on the present scheme show that approximately $15\%$ of CPU time reduction is achieved while maintaining the memory requirement level to $50-60\%$ of the original Gauss-Seidel scheme.
