  • It is very crucial to establishing an evaluation framework for anayzing the investment effects of IT asset such as knowledge managment systems. However, evaluation by quantitative measures, in spite of its usefulness and reliability, may have weakness in examining wide range of effects of the IT investment. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to propose a novel framework to evaluate the performance in terms of wider range of informatization effects. To do so, knowledge management concepts has been adopted in the evaluation method, and Impact Of Investment(IOI) has been suggested. IOI is used to derive Value Of Investment(VOI) and then ROI.

  • As nation's infrastructure is getting old, nondestructive evaluation of existing structures and construction quality control are getting important. In this paper non-destructive evaluations of concrete members using impact echo and SASW methods are introduced. Both techniques are based on the stress wave propagations. Experimental tests were performed using beam type concrete member where voids and cracks are included. Within reasonable accuracy, void locations were detected using impact echo method and the dynamic modulus of concrete were measured using SASW method. Both NDT methods showed a feasibility for the implementation into quality evaluaton of concrete members in practice

  • There has been an increasing demand for the noise impact assessment by the high-speed trains due to the expansion of high-speed rails. This paper provides procedures for the evaluation and the assessment of the potential noise impact resulting from proposed high-speed rails. Firstly the official specifications for the railway noise have been reviewed, and the procedures for the initial noise evaluation and the detailed noise analysis have been described.

  • In this paper, we propose a 3-D finite element (FE) analysis model with combined physical behavior and kinematical impact factors for evaluation of residual stress in multi-impact shot peening. The FE model considers both physical behavior of material and characteristics of kinematical impact. The physical parameters include elastic-plastic FE modeling of shot ball, material damping coefficient, dynamic friction coefficient. The kinematical parameters include impact velocity and diameter of shot ball. Multi-impact FE model consists of 3-D symmetry-cell. We can describe a certain repeated area of peened specimen under equibiaxial residual stress by the cell. With the cell model, we investigate the FE peening coverage, dependency on the impact sequence, effect of repeated cycle. The proposed FE model provides converged and unique solution of surface stress, maximum compressive residual stress and deformation depth at four impact positions. Further, in contrast to the rigid and elastic shots, plastically deformable shot produces residual stresses closer to experimental solutions by X-ray diffraction. Consequently, it is confirmed that the FE model with peening factors and plastic shot is valid for multi-shot peening analyses.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest a case study and anlaysis of the visual impact in dam construction through visual impact assessment method in Dong-sang river. The results can be summarized as follows; 1) For the evaluation of the visual impact of dam construction, five steps such as field analysis of visual status, finding visual sensitivity area and visual control point, making visual simulation material and evaluation, and visual impact analysis and assessment were suggested as desirable. 2) In the case study, the visual impact of dam construction was evaluated to be simple, unique, modern, static, cool and unfamiliar. 3) There was a few difference between the pre-construction and post-construction in statistical test. Especially, The dam in Man-Jee area was evaluated to be artificial, unique and destroyed in statistical difference, and then we design dam structure with visual friendliness. 4) In conclusion, there was high correlation between pre-construction landscape and post-construction landscape through semantic differential scale method using eleven adjectives. Therefore, we state that there is no visual impact for the dam construction for the moment.

  • The auditory experiments based on the subjective annoyance responses were undertaken for the establishment of the adverb modifiers of the heavy-weight impact noises. The standard heavy weight impact noise, impact ball noise and adult walking noise were recorded by dummy head at a newly-built apartment and were presented to the subjects by headphones. The levels of the three impact noises were varied from 30 to 60㏈(A) and the subjects matched one of the adverb modifiers to each level of the noise sources. As a result, seven scale modifiers were established and the intervals between the modifiers were found as equal. In addition, it was found that the lower annoyance noise limits for the heavyweight impact, impact ball and walking were 40-45㏈ (L$\sub$I, Fmax. AW), which is 6㏈ lower than in the previous study. The background noise level was as low as 21㏈(A) in the test booth, therefore, the testing conditions need to be concerned for evaluation of floor impact noise.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the impact protection performance and to evaluate the activity, design, fit, and pad characteristics of the fall impact protection clothing for elderly women. The protective clothing was designed as pants type and underwear type, and an impact protection pad in the form of a tightly connected regular hexagon piece was inserted in the hip and hip joints. The pad was made of two kinds of foam single pad and foam and gel combination pad so that they could be inserted into pants type and underwear type, respectively. The results of the shock absorption performance of the fall impact protective clothing showed that when the impact force of 4601N was applied to the pants type protective clothing, the impact force was reduced by 29% in the foam pad type and 26% in the gel and foam pad type. When the force of 5113N was applied to the underwear type, it decreased by 40% in the foam pad type and by 34% in the gel and foam pad type. As a result of wearing evaluation of subject group, it was found that fit and activity of underwear type was better than that of pants type. Foam pad type was evaluated to be lighter than gel and foam pad type in both the subject and the expert group and the gel and foam pad was evaluated to be more flexible in the expert group.

  • Electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) for quantitative evaluation of delaminations inside of a composite material plate is described. Delaminations caused by the impact on composite materials are difficult to detect visual inspection and ultrasonic testing due to non-homeogenous structure. This paper proposes the quantitative evaluation technique of the defects made in the composite plates by impact load. Artificial defects are introduced inside of the composite plate for the development of a reliable ESPI inspection technique. Real defects produced by impact tester are inspected and compared with the results of visual inspection which shows a good agreement within 5% error.

  • Recently, specifications of flat display module is going to be higher definition, brightness and more wide viewing angle. On the other hand, physical thickness of those modules is forced to be slimmer and lighter. The flat display modules such as plasma or TFT-LCD employ thin crystallized panels that are normally weak to high level transient mechanical energy inputs. As a result, anti-shock performance is one of the most important design specifications of TFT-LCD modules. TFT-LCD module manufacturers and their customers like PC or TV makers perform a series of strict impact/drop test for the modules. However most of the large display module designs are generated based on engineer's own trial-error experiences. Those designs may result in disqualification from the drop/impact test during final product evaluation. A rigorous study on the impact failure of the displays is of course necessitated in order to avoid the problems. In this article, a systematic design evaluation is presented with combinations of FEM modeling and testing to support the optimal shock proof display design procedure.
