  • In this paper, we present a non-photorealistic rendering technique that automatically delivers a stylized abstraction of a photograph with DoF(Depth of field). Our approach is a new filtering method that efficiently classifies DoF regions using RGB channels and automatically adjusts the color abstraction and extracted line quality based on this classification. This DoF-based filtering is simple, fast, and easy to implement and significantly improves the abstraction performance in terms of feature enhancement and stylization.

  • In these days, various technologies to provide a service of high quality of 360 VR media contents is being studied and developed. However, rendering high-quality of media images is very difficult with the limited resources of HMD (Head Mount Display). In this paper, we designed and implemented a 360 VR Player for high quality 360 tiled video image render to HMD. Furthermore, we developed multi-resolution-based Foveated Rendering technology. By conducting several experiments, We have confirmed that it improved the performance of video rendering far more than existing tiled video rendering technology.

  • In this paper, an overview of segmentation and 3D visualization methods are presented. Commonly, the two kinds of methods are used to visualize organs and vessels into 3D from medical images such as CT(A) and MRI - Direct Volume Rendering (DVR) and Iso-surface Rendering (IR). DVR can be applied directly to a volume. It directly penetrates through the volume while it determines which voxels are visualizedbased on a transfer function. On the other hand, IR requires a series of processes such as segmentation, polygonization and visualization. To extract a region of interest (ROI) from the medical volume image via the segmentation, some regions of an object and a background are required, which are typically obtained from the user. To visualize the extracted regions, the boundary points of the regions should be polygonized. In other words, the boundary surface composed of polygons such as a triangle and a rectangle should be required to visualize the regions into 3D because illumination effects, which makes the object shaded and seen in 3D, cannot be applied directly to the points.

  • The volume rendering has become an important technique in many applications along with hardware development. Understanding and perception of volume visualization benefit from visual cues which are available from shading. Better visual cues can be obtained from global illumination models but it's huge amount of computation and extra GPU memory need cause a lack of interactivity. In this paper, in order to improve visual cues on volume rendering, we propose an image space occlusion shading model which requires no additional resources.

  • Volume rendering is a method of displaying volumetric data as a sequence two-dimensional image. Because this algorithm has an advantage of visualizing structures within objects, it has recently been used to analyze medical images i.e, MRI, PET, and SPECT. In this paper. we suggested a method for creating images easily from sampled volumetric data and applied the interpolation method to medical images. Additionally, we implemented and applied two kinds of interpolation methods to improve the image quality, linear interpolation and cubic interpolation at the sampling stage. Subsequently, we compared the results of volume rendered data using a transfer function. We anticipate a significant contribution to diagnosis through image reconstruction using a volumetric data set, because volume rendering techniques of medical images are the result of 3-dimensional data.

  • This paper presents an automatic Oriental ink-rendering technique that recreates the artistic style of Oriental paintings from a single image. In Oriental paintings are characterized by strokes with various thickness and disordered dispersion. In this study, a stroke drawing method was developed based on the canny edge detector and radial curvature that are suitable for lines with varied thickness even along a single stroke. A dispersion-shading method was likewise developed by applying a set of iterated dual-filtering, and intensity exaggeration methods. The dispersion-shading method is designed to increase the local shade details, to decrease the global shade. Unlike the existing watercolor-rendering and abstraction system the proposed dispersion-shading method achieves disordered shade details rather than simplification.

  • This research suggests a novel visualization approach utilizing Generative AI to render photorealistic architectural alternatives images in the early design phase. Photorealistic rendering intuitively describes alternatives and facilitates clear communication between stakeholders. Nevertheless, the conventional rendering process, utilizing 3D modelling and rendering engines, demands sophisticate model and processing time. In this context, the paper suggests a rendering approach employing the text-to-image method aimed at generating a broader range of intuitive and relevant reference images. Additionally, it employs an Text-to-Image method focused on producing a diverse array of alternatives reflecting architects' styles when visualizing the exteriors of residential buildings from the mass model images. To achieve this, fine-tuning for architects' styles was conducted using the Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) method. This approach, supported by fine-tuned models, allows not only single style-applied alternatives, but also the fusion of two or more styles to generate new alternatives. Using the proposed approach, we generated more than 15,000 meaningful images, with each image taking only about 5 seconds to produce. This demonstrates that the Generative AI-based visualization approach significantly reduces the labour and time required in conventional visualization processes, holding significant potential for transforming abstract ideas into tangible images, even in the early stages of design.

  • displacement mapping enables us to add realistic details to polygonal meshes without changing geometry. We present a real-time artifacts-free inverse displacement mapping method. In each pixel, we construct a ray and trace the ray through the displacement map to find an intersection. To skip empty regions safely, we traverse the image pyramid of displacement map in top-down order. Furthermore, when the displacement map is enlarged, intersection with bilinear interpolated displacement map can be found. When the displacement map is at distance, our method supports mipmap-like prefiltering to enhance image quality and speed. Experimental results show that our method can produce correct images even at grazing view angles. Rendering speed of a test scene is over hundreds of frames per second and the influence of resolution of displacement map to rendering speed is little. Our method is simple enough to be added to existing virtual reality systems easily.

  • Image registration is a process to establish the spatial correspondence between images of the same scene, which are acquired at different view points, at different times, or by different sensors. In this paper, we introduce a robust brain registration technique for correcting the difference between two temporal images by the different coordinate systems in MR and CT image obtained from the same patient. Two images are registered where this measure is minimized using a modified conditional entropy(MCE: Modified Conditional Entropy) computed from the joint histograms for the intensities of two given images, we conduct the rendering for visualization of 3D volume image.

  • Shear-Warp volume rendering has many advantages such as good image Quality and fast rendering speed. However in the interactive classification environment it has low efficiency of memory access since preprocessed classification is unavailable. In this paper we present an algorithm using the spacial locality of memory access in the interactive classification environment. We propose an extension model appending a rotation matrix to the factorization of viewing transformation, it thus performs a scanline-based rendering in the object and image space. We also show causes and solutions of three problems of the proposed algorithm such as inaccurate front-to-back composition, existence of hole, increasing computational cost. This model is efficient due to the spacial locality of memory access.
