A Study on the Safety Consciousness Survey of Old Workers (노령근로자의 안전의식 설문조사에 관한 연구)

  • Recently unemployed construction workers are increasing because of construction recession. But the lack of manpower occurs at the same time, in construction sites. So, the excess of workforce supply and demand exists in construction sites. Construction companies have a difficulty in seeking young skilled workers due to this problem. In this study, construction accidents reported by Korean Occupational Safety and Health Agency from 2007 to 2010 were analyzed. It has shown that 50-54, 45-49 and 55-59 year old workers formed 22%, 18% and 17% respectively. This means that old workers becomes a real problem in construction. This research has shown that old workers didn't have much more accidents than young workers, construction accidents related to the employment period of workers.

  • It has been passed around two decades since the CM is introduced in December 1996. And 20 years have passed. Construction Technology Management Act is the enacted of 1987, since Independence Hall fire in 1986. In the meantime, basic background and operational rather than the development of regulations that skewed had a voice of concern. Accordingly, Ministry of land is promoting a full-scale revision that Construction Technology Promotion law as switching to promote and support the necessity from Regulatory and management-oriented paradigm. In this paper, according to the Construction and Technology Promotion law amended in the course of doing business, was conducting research for drawn counterstrategy through SWOT analysis that was not the side of owner but CM company.

  • The contiguous construction in downtown area requires an appropriate substructure construction method since it results in the insufficient working spaces and frequent public resentment by noise and vibration. In particular, Top-down method usually is applied for downtown construction, and followed by several difficulties in casting the slab concrete for substructure. In this study, we focus on the improvement workability for substructure construction.

  • The basic type construction cost which is the base of the building cost estimation is being adjusted according to the price changes by utilizing the apartment construction cost index in order to flexibly operate it. In this study, we analyzed the change trends and characteristics of the housing cost index for the basic type building cost model project operated from September, 2012 to March, 2018. As a result, the increase in material costs is slight while the share of the labor cost increased in the construction cost due to the rise of labor unit price, leading to a perceived increase in sensitivity of labor costs. We should be careful to keep the sensitivity of the material cost and the labor cost to an appropriate level so that the index may not be distorted.

  • With the increasing public concerns on sustainability in construction industry around the world, a variety of standards for sustainable construction have been developed and implemented. However, most of the them focuses operation and maintenance phases and do not have been approached integrally in terms of all construction phases. Especially, considering the quantities of environmental loads occurred intensively at the construction phases, it should not be overlooked. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to deduct primary management works for reduction of the potential environmental loads at the construction phases. In order to assess them quantitatively, we conduct a survey from professionals who are in the relevant fields and analyze these data using Fuzzy-AHP.

Load Carrying Capacity of Top Down Prefounded Columns on Different Excavation Schedule (굴착순서에 따른 Top Down 선기둥 지지력 산정)

  • Top Down method is more widely used in downtown construction, recently. As underground construction constitutes a significant portion of the total construction cost and time in Top Down construction, it is important to develop a construction method to reduce the time required in underground works. The purpose of this study is to analyze load carrying capacity of Top Down prefounded columns on different excavation schedule. When several floors are excavated, the valid buckling length of prefounded column is increased and allowable buckling stress is decreased. The result shows that all columns are safe in buckling down to B3 story whether 2 or 3 stories are excavated. However, several columns are not safe from B4 story when 2 or 3 stories are excavated straightly. With these results, a process can be designed that the first three stories in the basement are excavated, and then excavate B4 story after placing concrete on B1 and B2 floor.

  • When it comes to construction, the UAE leads the way. The UAE's construction industry is valued at US$ 221 billion (about AED 811.73 billion) - the highest in the region. The construction boom has caused a shortage of both manpower and materials, leading to rise in input prices not only in UAE but in the entire region. The prices of materials have reportedly increased more than manpower. Consequently, there has been an escalation in project costs, which have increased by 10-20 per cent since last three years. This paper examines the opportunities and challenges faced by the developers, consultants, contractors and suppliers due to the construction boom at UAE for the last five years. The paper summarizes that inspite of challenges faced, UAE expects the construction and real estate sectors to remain upbeat for the next ten years.

  • The construction industry has the highest occupational fatality and injury rates related to accidents of any industry. Accordingly, safety managers closely monitor to prevent accidents in real-time by installing surveillance cameras at construction sites. However, due to human cognitive ability limitations, it is impossible to monitor many videos simultaneously, and the fatigue of the person monitoring surveillance cameras is also very high. Thus, to help safety managers monitor work and reduce the occupational accident rate, a study on object recognition in construction sites was conducted through surveillance cameras. In this study, we applied to the instance segmentation to identify the classification and location of objects and extract the size and shape of objects in construction sites. This research considers ways in which deep learning-based computer vision technology can be applied to safety management on a construction site.

  • The construction industry is known for a large number of workers and its high employment inducing effect. Therefore, the survey on the wages of the construction industry is an important basic data for grasping fluctuations according to the survey cycle and establishing future policies, and it is a statistical data having a large impact on related industries. In this study, we intend to conduct a comparative analysis of 'the wage survey in Construction sector,' which is the representative nationally approved statistics that surveys the current construction industry wages, and 'the labor force survey of business establishment'.

  • In the domestic construction industry, large-scale housing construction projects are being carried out by construction companies with competitiveness in the domestic top 10, it is said that the competence of the construction engineer is a factor for the success of the project. In Korea, there is National Competency Standards (NCS) that systematize contents of knowledge, technology, and attitude required in order to perform job in industrial field as the importance of individual ability is systemized in the country. Therefore, in this study, defined the detail competence in construction administration works, and examined the level of competence and degree of impotance detailed competency of construction engineers using AHP analysis & ANOVA. As a result, it was found that the current capacity of the Engineers in the apartment construction work is insufficient compared to the level of the competence they think they have, and that they have different competencies depending on their work experience and job position. This means that if the career is accumulated, the capacity that is possessed naturally will be changed. Therefore, it will be necessary to improve the capacity of the construction engineers who have a short work experience and a low job level.
