Differences in Attitudes and Behaviors toward Money of the College Students after and before IMF Economic Crisis (IMF 경제위기 전후 대학생의 돈에 대한 태도와 행동 차이)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the attitudes and behaviors toward money among college students after and before IMF economic crisis. The subject of investigation consists of 389 students in the year of 1995 and 112 students in the year of 2000 in Wonkwang university. The major findings are as follows: 1) The exploratory factor analysis of money attitudes and behaviors scale drew four factors such as; power, obsession, money management and pleasure. 2) Male students have a tendency more likely than females not only to look upon money as power but also to have an obsession before IMF economic crisis. But gender differences were disappeared after. 3) In comparison of the before and after IMF economic crisis, the behavior value in reference to money is generally increased. The social power and the cognitive attitude like an obsessional increased smaller than that of a practical such as money management or pleasure. The pleasure is raised the largest. 4) The level of attitudes and behavior for money management is raised the most for female students while, the value of the pleasure has the greatest increase for male students rate.

  • The importance of human factors has been emphasized for pilots because most of aviation accidents have been caused by the human factors of pilots. Human factors issues such as fatigue affecting flight safety are needed to be educated to student pilots who have less experience in flight training. In order to prevent aviation accidents caused by human factors, the management of stress, fatigue, and obsessive-compulsive disorder which increase psychological harmful factors of student pilots, is essential for aviation safety. The management of fatigue is required as a part of safety management system following the guidance of leading aviation authorities. The purpose of this article was to investigate the factors of fatigue at each stage by classifying it into before, during, and after flight training to manage the fatigue of students pilots. Then, the factors of relatively high fatigue were analyzed by using the AHP process to provide factors related fatigue affecting pilot training.

Human Resource Management Practices and Employee Performance: The Role of Job Satisfaction

  • This study aims to investigate the impact of Human Resource Management Practices (HRMP) on improving Employee Performance (EP). The study is accomplished by hypothesizing the impact of HRMP on EP, additionally, this impact is theorized to be mediated through job satisfaction. Employee engagement is also taken into account because of the potential moderating effect it has within the theorized model. Data was collected from 480 questionnaires which were distributed among commercial banks' workers in Jordan and were analyzed using structural equation modeling techniques (SEM), path analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Analysis of a moment structures (AMOS) software version 24 was applied to complete our analysis. The results show that HRMP had a positive impact on EP, as well as job satisfaction and its components (job stability and job enrichment). The mediating role of job satisfaction (enrichment and stability) was discovered. Finally, employee engagement emerged as a moderating variable linking HRMP and EP. The findings of this study show the importance of the role played by job satisfaction and employee engagement in achieving human resources performance goals. Future analysis is recommended to gain deeper insight into the relationship between HRMP, job satisfaction, worker training, and performance appraisal.

Time uncertainty analysis method for level 2 human reliability analysis of severe accident management strategies

  • This paper proposes an extended time uncertainty analysis approach in Level 2 human reliability analysis (HRA) considering severe accident management (SAM) strategies. The method is a time-based model that classifies two time distribution functions-time required and time available-to calculate human failure probabilities from delayed action when implementing SAM strategies. The time required function can be obtained by the combination of four time factors: 1) time for diagnosis and decision by the technical support center (TSC) for a given strategy, 2) time for strategy implementation mainly by the local emergency response organization (ERO), 3) time to verify the effectiveness of the strategy and 4) time for portable equipment transport and installation. This function can vary depending on the given scenario and includes a summation of lognormal distributions and a choice regarding shifting the distribution. The time available function can be obtained via thermal-hydraulic code simulation (MAAP 5.03). The proposed approach was applied to assess SAM strategies that use portable equipment and safety depressurization system valves in a total loss of component cooling water event that could cause reactor vessel failure. The results from the proposed method are more realistic (i.e., not conservative) than other existing methods in evaluating SAM strategies involving the use of portable equipment.

  • The strengthening of Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) for clinical research on advanced regenerative medicine reflecting the 3 Principles of the Belmont Report (Respect, Beneficence, Justice) is very important. The research institution IRB should naturally be in charge of managing the clinical research process. And it is crucial to reinforce HRPP for the protection of research subjects in institutions conducting advanced regeneration clinical research. So, it is needed to establish a Protection System for Advanced Regenerative Medical Research Subjects composed of clinical research management communication system for advanced regenerative medicine between KAIRB (Korean Association of IRB) of research institutes and National Management Agency for Advanced Regenerative Medical Research. In advanced regenerative medicine clinical research to verify safety and efficacy of the investigational drugs to the subjects with rare and incurable diseases rather than to treat the patients, it is hoped that a management system that guarantees the scientific characteristics of research and the rights of research subjects would be well organized and operated.

In global economy and information time, country and company have become a business imperative core strategy. Industrial and Labor management culture is more innovation and sustain, development. Therefore, This paper review, the new era of 21st century of knowledged based information society, new labor management culture's shape and the possibility of strong corporate culture's impact. This study suggested several improvement ways of Labor Management. The directions of participation in decisions in labor relation as follows: A manager and employee cope with partnership each other, open management is to successfully operate. Then investment enlarge human resource development, career development, education & training's enforcement etc. Employee are creativity and innovation task centered interested in the working conditions. First of all, employee has to not only effort to productivity improvement, but also voluntarily capacity improvement. These changes are hot issues to employee as well as to manager. Also, Government role is very important. They provide to constructive infra and human resource management should be develop as well as supported to knowledge based employee in socially responsible management. Finally, new labor relations culture' practice can effort the growth to improve upgrading strategy the sound labor-manager.

The Comparison of Apartment Management System between Korea and America (한국과 미국의 공동주택 관리제도 비교)

  • This research is carried out to investigate the Condominium Management System of the states of California and Hawaii, and to examine the similarities and the differences between the Korean Apartment Management System and the American Condominium Management System. The research indicates: first, in Korea the management of apartment units is the Commission of the Representatives of the Occupants, while in America the management of condominiums is the Association of Apartment Owners, an organization of condominium owners in America. Second, it is required that apartment developers should submit such a document as the Public Report in America, which explains various matters concerning legal rights on condominium buildings and the outline of the buildings, to the authorities concerned in Korea. It can help the authorities to accumulate management techniques of the apartment complex, which could efficiently be used in practicing and planning city housing policies. Third, each apartment's management company in Korea is bound to make long term plans for maintenance based on the Housing Law. It is, however, difficult to reserve an adequate amount of money for the reserve fund, because its use is decided according to the maintenance rule which has a criterion different from each and every apartment management. Concludingly, an amendment of the Housing Law in Korea is required, in order to reserve at least 50 percent of the estimated sum of maintenance expense in future like Hawaii State in America.

  • Bridges are exposed to very severe environment and experience, as service life increased, elevated traffic load and traffic flow, in addition to natural disasters. In comparing to other road structures, bridges may cause more significant damage, such as human-involved accidents, to the society in the event of collapse. A certain level of service shall be necessarily secured to assure the minimum safety of users. The cost for manage and preserve bridges will increase gradually and more restrictions will be loaded to efficiently distribute the limited resources, such as monetary budget and human resource etc. In order to enhance performance and serviceability of bridges with the limited resource, asset management technique has been applied into the bridge management system, which capitalizes the road infrastructures including bridges and assess them in accordance with the government finance report. In the application of asset management, there must be a tool for assess the performance of bridges and this study introduces the basic information on the definition and role of performance measures for asset management for bridges. This research suggests future development direction of performance measure for asset management for bridges in Korea.

  • This study investigates what effects employment flexibility have on the business performance in the computer programming, system consultancy and related services. An analysis of the effects of employment flexibility on outcomes of human resource management revealed that companies which had a higher proportion of temporary agency workers and adjusted employment more frequently had higher turnover rates. The study also showed that the higher the proportion of non-regular workers, outsourcing and the easier it was to adjust working hours, the higher the absence rate. Meanwhile, companies that made employment adjustments more often showed higher defect rates and lower customer satisfaction. It was also found that in companies with a higher proportion of outsourcing and higher possibility of employment adjustments, workers were less interested in new technologies.

ATYPICAL EMPLOYMENT IN TAIWAN'S CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

  • Responding to the fierce market competition and trying to cut personnel costs, the construction industry in Taiwan is adopting atypical employment in human resource. To discover this trend, this study employed a questionnaire survey to investigate the current use of atypical employment by domestic contractors and its possible impacts on the industry. According to the 103 returned valid questionnaires, 40.8% of the respondent contractors have applied some atypical employment types in recent three years and most of them used fixed-term employment. The major reasons the contractors used atypical employees are to reduce personnel costs, to deal with business fluctuations and to streamline personnel. According to the respondents, there is no significant difference between the advantages and disadvantages of using a large number of atypical employees in the short term. However, in the long term, atypical employment is generally more disadvantageous than advantageous.
