The management of nursing resource is very important. that is because nursing staff accounts for 30-40% of total staff in a hospital and nurses provide patoents with attentive service for hours daily. The continuous turnover of nursing staff. however, impedes the quality-oriented nursing care, which will consequently leads to the loss of human and material resource in competitive society. This study aimed to calculate nurse's activity and compare the activity amount based on career experience. Futhermore it aimed to find factors which would influence 'quality weighed direct nursing activity amount'. Questionnaires and check lists for this study were distributed to nurses in a suburban hospital outside of Seoul from October 20 to November 14. 1997. The nursing activities were calculated according to professionality. independency and working hour. And then it were accumulated by quality score. The collected data was analyzed by statistical methods as t-test, ANOVA, correlation, multiple regression. The results of this study were as follows ; Firstly, carrel' experience had no influence on the quality weighed nursing activity amount. But the quality level of service of skilled nurses was higher than that of new nurses. Secondly, career was a variable affecting the quality in nursing service. So career was positively related to the quality of nursing care. Patient's disease severity and number of patient were positively correlated with weighed nursing activity amount. But job satisfaction was negatively correlated v:ith the amount. Thirdly, the independent variables which had significant influence on the weighed nursing activity amount were disease severity and the number of patients, The severity score and number of patient were directly proportional to the weighed nursing activity amount. This results indicated· that weighed nursing activity amount was influenced by the number of patient and patient's disease severity. The quality score of nursing services for experienced members is higher than that of new staff. But both new and skilled staff showed no difference in the quality weighed nursing activity amount. Internal and. external environment influences nursing activities. The quality of nursing services is very important factor in nursing activity. Therefore nursing managers should make an effort to improve nursing care quality through continuous research. Also they should try to maintain experience nurses and assign nursing staff appropriately with patient's severity and other relevant factors being considered. The quality-improved nursing care in the hospital will strengthen hospital's competitiveness.
Purpose: This study was done to assess the educational needs that should be considered in developing curriculum for staff in charge of public health services in public hospitals. Methods: The participants in this study were staff in charge of public health services in 130 public hospitals. The Borich's Needs Assessment Model which analyzed the relation of 'required competence level' and 'present competence level', was utilized. Data were collected from October to November 2007 using a structure self-report questionnaire. The return rate was 66.9%. The Cronbach's alpha score was 0.959. Results: The mean scores for 'required competence level', 'present competence level' and Borich's need were 4.02, 3.44, and 2.30 respectively. According to public health service items, 'strategies to recognize the present condition and analyze problems' had the highest score for Borich's need, but 'establishment of annual or monthly objectives' had the lowest score for Borich's need. Conclusion: Education was found to be very important for staff carrying out public health services. Ultimately the results of this study may be utilized to develop education program for staff carrying out public health services in public hospitals.
Purpose: This study aims to describe the characteristics of safety incidents and factors associated with injury for patients with Home Mechanical Ventilation (HMV) at the hospital. Methods: This is a retrospective study. Data were collected from the work log of respiratory home care nurses and the patients' electronic medical records were investigated. In order to compare group differences, independent t-test and χ2 test were used. Associated factors with injury development were identified by generalized mixed modeling analysis controlling for age and gender. Results: A total of 304 patients on HMV were included in this study, among which 129 (42.4%) experienced 352 HMV-related incidents. Mean frequency of incidents for each patient was 5.11±3.98, ranged from 1 to 15 times. In 19.0% of the incidents, injury was developed. Types of incident and persons involved in the incidents were significantly associated with the patient's injury. In the case of the safety incidents, patient's injury was significantly higher in accidents caused by respiratory circuit problems compared to those caused by problems with the ventilator operation by the medical staff (coefficient=1.25, p=.020). In addition, in the case of those involved in the safety incidents, patient's injury was significantly higher in the accident caused by the patient family members or caregivers than that caused by the medical personnel (coefficient=1.25, p=.019). Conclusion: In order to minimize injury caused by incidents in patients with HMV, hospitals need to provide systemic education to their medical staff and caregivers to enhance awareness of the importance of reporting and safety management.

The purpose of this study was to examine the state of scrub wearing among scrub uniforms medical staff. The results of the research is the following. First, As for the state of scrub uniforms, they wore scrubs only while they gave medical treatment and took care of routine work. Regarding the design of their current scrubs, type 1 was dominant, and the most common color was dark sky blue. Second, Concerning considerations for scrub design, they answered that scrubs should be designed to give no inconvenience during job performance. As for the image, they placed the most importance in a clean image due to hygiene. In relation to preference for color, pattern and materials, they had the most preference for dark blue, no pattern and materials that would not easily be contaminated. Third, As to preference for the length of the top, they were most fond of hip length, and short sleeves were their favorite length of sleeve. Concerning the design of the front and the back of the top, they had a liking for a box style with no straight cutting line. As for the design of the neckline, hem and pocket of the top, they had the most preference for round neckline, square bottom and round patch pocket respectively. Fourth, when the design preference of the respondents was analyzed, there were a difference between the men and the women in preference for neckline design. The women had a liking for round neck, whereas the men were fond of V neck. And the women showed a higher preference for rubber waistband than the men for the waist design of the pants. No gender differences were found in preference for color, pattern and the length of the top.

This paper proposes a method of refining and processing time-series data using Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC-IV) v2.0 data. In addition, the significance of the processing method was validated through a machine learning-based pressure ulcer early warning system using a dataset processed based on the proposed method. The implemented system alerts medical staff in advance 12 and 24 hours before a lesion occurs. In conjunction with the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, it informs the medical staff of the risk of a patient's pressure ulcer development in real-time to support a clinical decision, and further, it enables the efficient allocation of medical resources. Among several machine learning models, the GRU model showed the best performance with AUROC of 0.831 for 12 hours and 0.822 for 24 hours.

The purposes of this study is to identify the relationship between coping strategies and the nursing organizational effectiveness in hospital nurses and to provide the basic data concerning the development of job stress management program for hospital nurses. The subjects showed that the twenties and single nurses who had worked under one year used more frequently 'the avoid and the symptom coping strategies' better than 'the control'. Also, they showed significantly lower satisfaction and higher 'the intent to leave' than others. The main factors that affected the satisfaction and 'the intent to leave' were age and the control coping strategies.In conclusion, this study showed that the staff nurses who were twenties, single, and new employed used more frequently 'the avoid and symptom management coping strategies' than others. Also they showed lower satisfaction and higher 'the intent to leave' than others. So Age and the control coping strategies should be considered in the development of staff nurses' stress management program. Especially, it was needed to focused on the nurses who were twenties, single, and new employed.

This study was designed to investigate perception of job rotation and an organizational commitment of staff nurses working at K hospital and find the way of increasing an organizational commitment for the groundwork for efficient changes in the nursing staff. Data were collected from Aug. 20 to Aug. 28, 2004 through self reporting questionnaires taken by 318 nurses working at a hospital. The three structured instruments were used for collecting the data; Questionnaires for measuring the perception of job rotation, Questionnaires for measuring the utility and the problem of job rotation, and Mowday's Organizational Commitment Questionnaires. The Results were as follows : 1. 66.0% of 318 staff nurses approved of regular job rotation; 34.0% of them disapproved 34.3% of them wanted to get transferred to another department; 65.7% of them didn't. 2. Of general characteristics, age(F=17.469, P=.000), marital status(F=-2.781, P=.006), religion(F=5.688, P=.001), education level(F=8.816, P=.000), position(F=15.591, P=.000), a total clinical career(F=11.606 p=.000) and field in practice(F=4.206, P=.000) were significantly related to an organizational commitment. 3. There is relatively positive correlation between the perception of job rotation and an organizational commitment. In conclusion, the utility of on the job rotation and organizational commitment showed the positive correlation.
Currently, inappropriate information regarding cancer is being disseminated indiscreetly via the media and Internet. Many people are confused due to the mixed presence of facts and misinformation concerning cancer. Owing to the flood of information, especially that concerning gastrointestinal cancer (the most common cancer in Korea), patients with gastrointestinal cancers, their family members, and medical staff, as well as the general public, are faced with a number of problems in understanding, treating, and overcoming this type of cancer. Therefore, investigating the level of recognition for and understanding of gastrointestinal cancers among these populations is very important for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of this disease. This review article investigated the differences in the recognition levels of the general understanding, prevention, quality of life, pain control, and the ethical issues of gastrointestinal cancer treatment among the general public, patients with gastrointestinal cancers, their family members, and medical staff via surveys.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the leadership of head nurses on the job satisfaction and job performance of staff nurses. The leadership styles of head nurses were classified to "authority-oriented" and "benevolence-oriented" based on korean traditional culture. The subjects of this study were 450 staff nurses working at medical-surgical units, intensive care units, emergency units of general hospitals in Kyungbuk area. Data were collected from March 13 to March 25 with several scales for the measurement of leadership styles of head nurses, job satisfaction and job performance of staff nurses. The Cronchbach alphas for the scales were. 79 in "authority-oriented" leadership style, 90 in "benevolence-oriented" leadership style, .91 in job satisfaction, .97 in job performance. Data were analyzed with SAS program using statistics of percentage, means, standard deviation, Pearson correlation, ANOVA and ANCOVA. The results were : 1. There were significant correlations between benevolence-oriented leadership style and job satisfaction, job performance of staff nurses(r=.24, p=.000 ; r=.12, p=.008), authority-oriented leadership style of head nurses and job satisfaction of staff nurses(r=.12 ; p=.024). 2. There were significant differences in job satisfaction of staff nurses by age and clinical career(F=10.36, p=.000 ; F=7.63, p=.000). Also there were significant differences in job performance of staff nurses by age, religion, marriage and clinical career(F=17.79, p=.000 ; F=2.89, p=.035 ; F=4.41, p=.036 ; F=14.33, p=.000). 3. There was significant differences in job satisfaction by the leadership style of head nurses. The purpose of this study is to verify the relationship between medical service quality, relationship quality and patient loyalty in domestic nursing hospitals and the mediating effect between medical service quality and patient loyalty. A survey was conducted on 324 inpatients in nursing hospitals, and statistical analysis was conducted on the collected data through questionnaire survey. The following main results were derived. First, among the quality of medical services, the reputation of nursing facility equipment, nursing medical staff, nursing service system, and nursing facility was found to have a significant positive effect on the quality of the relationship, but medical expenses had no significant effect. Second, among the quality of the relationship, both trust and commitment were found to have a significant positive effect on patient loyalty. Third, among the quality of medical services, the reputation of nursing facility equipment, nursing medical staff, nursing service system, and nursing facility was found to have a significant positive effect on patient loyalty, but medical expenses had no significant effect. Fourth, it was found that nursing facility equipment, nursing medical staff, nursing service system, and reputation of nursing facilities, excluding nursing care expenses, all had a positive effect on patient loyalty through the quality of relationships between patients and hospitals.
