  • Linear and nonlinear time history analyses have been becoming more common in seismic analysis and design of structures with advances in computer technology and earthquake engineering. One of the most important issues for such analyses is the selection of appropriate acceleration time histories and matching these histories to a code design acceleration spectrum. In literature, there are three sources of acceleration time histories: artificial records, synthetic records obtained from seismological models and accelerograms recorded in real earthquakes. Because of the increase of the number of strong ground motion database, using and scaling real earthquake records for seismic analysis has been becoming one of the most popular research issues in earthquake engineering. In general, two methods are used for scaling actual earthquake records: scaling in time domain and frequency domain. The objective of this study is twofold: the first is to discuss and summarize basic methodologies and criteria for selecting and scaling ground motion time histories. The second is to analyze scaling results of time domain method according to ASCE 7-05 and Eurocode 8 (1998-1:2004) criteria. Differences between time domain method and frequency domain method are mentioned briefly. The time domain scaling procedure is utilized to scale the available real records obtained from near fault motions and far fault motions to match the proposed elastic design acceleration spectrum given in the Eurocode 8. Why the time domain method is preferred in this study is stated. The best fitted ground motion time histories are selected and these histories are analyzed according to Eurocode 8 (1998-1:2004) and ASCE 7-05 criteria. Also, characteristics of both near fault ground motions and far fault ground motions are presented by the help of figures. Hence, we can compare the effects of near fault ground motions on structures with far fault ground motions' effects.

  • Objectives; Hapkok(L14) and Taechung(Liv3) are acupuncture points located on both sides of each foot and hand of the human body. These two points are called sakwan points. Matching these acupuncture points have a significant reason in points of not only regulating the circulation of Yin-Yang as a source point of each meridian, but also playing a basic role of twelve meridian by controling circulation of ki and blood in the whole body. There are already related documents and studies on stimulating sakwan points. Since those papers mostly studied on either hapkok or taechung, we came to have a doubt of stimulating the two point at the same time when an inbalance of Yin-Yang and ki-blood appears. Accordingly, we got to investigate how thermogram of body changes after applying an acupuncture on sakwan points. Our study is as follows ; Methods; Our study was performed on 30 normal cases(M:F=17:13) with no past history to observe the effects of the acupuncture. We measured temperature of abdomen and the back of both hands by D.I.T.I(Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging) before and after acupuncture on sakwan points. Results and Conclusion; The thermographic change on abdomen was $0.51{\pm}0.71^{\circ}C$. Temperature of abdomen after acupuncture was higher than before acupuncture with high validity(p <0.01). And the thermographic changes on the back of both hands were right hand $0.54{\pm}1.17^{\circ}C$, left hand $0.56{\pm}1.28^{\circ}C$. Temperature on the back of both hands after acupuncture was higher than before acupuncture, but the difference between them had little validity(p <0.01) In addition, we found that it doesn't necessarily follow that the thermographic changes on abdomen and back of both hands after acupuncture on sakwan points happen concurrently.

  • Objective : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic disease that can affect the cervical spine, especially the atlantoaxial region. The present study evaluated the risk factors for atlantoaxial subluxation (AAS) development and progression in patients who have undergone surgical treatment. Methods : We retrospectively analyzed the data of 62 patients with RA and surgically treated AAS between 2002 and 2015. Additionally, we identified 62 patients as controls using propensity score matching of sex and age among 12667 RA patients from a rheumatology registry between 2007 and 2015. We extracted patient data, including sex, age at diagnosis, age at surgery, disease duration, radiographic hand joint changes, and history of methotrexate use, and laboratory data, including presence of rheumatoid factor and the C-reactive protein (CRP) level. Results : The mean patient age at diagnosis was 38.0 years. The mean time interval between RA diagnosis and AAS surgery was $13.6{\pm}7.0$ years. The risk factors for surgically treated AAS development were the serum CRP level (p=0.005) and radiographic hand joint erosion (p=0.009). The risk factors for AAS progression were a short time interval between RA diagnosis and radiographic hand joint erosion (p<0.001) and young age at RA diagnosis (p=0.04). Conclusion : The CRP level at RA diagnosis and a short time interval between RA diagnosis and radiographic hand joint erosion might be risk factors for surgically treated AAS development in RA patients. Additionally, a short time interval between RA diagnosis and radiographic hand joint erosion and young age at RA diagnosis might be risk factors for AAS progression.

  • This research attempts to give a personalized recommendation framework in large-sized music contents environment. Despite of existing studios and commercial contents for recommendation systems, large online shopping malls are still looking for a recommendation system that can serve personalized recommendation and handle large data in real-time. This research utilizes data mining technologies and new pattern matching algorithm. A clustering technique is used to get dynamic user segmentations using user preference to contents categories. Then a sequential pattern mining technique is used to extract contents access patterns in the user segmentations. And the recommendation is given by our recommendation algorithm using user contents preference history and contents access patterns of the segment. In the framework, preprocessing and data transformation and transition are implemented on DBMS. The proposed system is implemented to show that the framework is feasible. In the experiment using real-world large data, personalized recommendation is given in almost real-time and shows acceptable correctness.

  • Tree-ring chronologies can be used to date historical buildings or furnitures by matching them with chronologies of living trees. Tree-ring dating gives a calendar year to each tree ring and produces the cutting dates of logs or woods. In this study, we intend to extend our tree-ring dating applications to Korean furnitures. As a case study, we examined two traditional furnitures, one cabinet 'Jang' and the other chest, 'Bandaji'. The cutting date of the cabinet woods was A.D. 1839. The date of the outmost ring in the chest was A.D. 1904. Due to no bark present, the cutting date of the chest was only estimated as $1930{\pm}10$ by 'sapwood rings' estimation method. Ring-width pattern of the latter one also indicated that the origin of the chest must be Kangwon province. This case study suggests that tree-ring dating would be a useful and accurate method to identify the critical dates for the chronicles of Korean traditional furnitures.

  • Background: Chronic myeloproliferative diseases are clonal stem cell diseases which occur as a result of uncontrollable growth and reproduction of hematopoietic stem cells, which are the myeloid series source in bone marrow. Recent studies have suggested that chronic inflammation can be a triggering factor in the clonal change in chronic myeloproliferative neoplasia (CMPN). In our study, we evaluated the existence of a chronic inflammation process in our Philadelphia negative (Ph-)CMPN patients using inflammation parameters in combination with demographic, laboratory and clinical characteristics of the patients. Materials and Methods: Demographic characteristics, clinical and laboratorial data, and thrombosis histories of 99 Ph-CMPN patients, who were diagnosed at our outpatient clinic of hematology in accordance with WHO 2008 criteria, were analyzed retrospectively, with 80 healthy individuals of matching gender and age included as controls. Complete blood counts, sedimentation, C reactive protein (CRP), JAK V617F gene mutations, abdomen ultrasound images and previous thrombosis histories of these patients were retrospectively analyzed. Results: Ph-CMPN and healthy control groups included 99 and 80 cases, respectively. PV, ET and MF diagnoses of patients were 43 (%43.4), 44 (44.4%) and 12 (12.1%), respectively. JAK V617F gene mutation was found to be positive in 64 (71.1%) of all cases and in 27(65.8%), 32 (82%), 5 (50%) of the cases in PV, ET and PMF groups, respectively. Thrombosis was determined as 12 (12%) in the entire group, 12.5% in the JAK V617F negative and 15.3% in the positive patients, with no statistical significance (p=0.758). No significant difference was observed between patients with and without previous thrombosis history in respect to hemogram parameters, sedimentation and CRP (p>0.05), neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), erythrocyte distribution width (RDW), mean platelet volume (MPV) and sedimentation levels of the patient.

  • Search engines that rely on morphological matching of user query and web document content do not support individual interests. This research proposes a personalized web search scheme that returns the results that reflect the users' query intent and personal preferences. The performance of the personalized search depends on using an effective user profiling strategy to accurately capture the users' personal interests. In this study, the user profiles are the databases of topic words and customized weights based on the recent user queries and the frequency of topic words in click history. To determine the precise meaning of ambiguous queries and topic words, this strategy uses WordNet to calculate the semantic relatedness to words in the user profile. The experiments were conducted by installing a query expansion and re-ranking modules on the general web search systems. The results showed that this method has 92% precision and 82% recall in the top 10 search results, proving the enhanced performance.

  • Urban transit is a complex system that is combined electrically and mechanically, it is necessary to construct maintenance system for securing safety accompanying high-speed driving and maintaining promptly. Expert system is a computer program which uses numerical or non-numerical domain-specific knowledge to solve problems. In this research, we intend to develop the expert system which diagnose failure causes quickly and display measures. For the development of expert system, standardization of failure code classification system and creation of BOM(Bill Of Materials) have been first performed. Through the analysis of failure history and maintenance manuals, knowledge base has been constructed. Also, for retrieving the procedure of failure diagnosis and repair linking with the knowledge base, we have built RBR(Rule Based Reasoning) engine by pattern matching technique and CBR(Case Based Reasoning) engine by similarity search method. This system has been developed based on web to maximize the accessibility.
