Experimental Study on the Friction Torque Characteristics of Magnetic Fluid Seals for High Vacuum System (고진공용 자성유체시일이 마찰 토오크 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This paper deals with an experimental study on the f~iction torque characteristics of magnctic fluid seals for various oil temperatures, rotating speeds, and vacuum pressures. The friction torque of MFS was measured by high response torque meter. The experimental results show that, as the rotating speed increases, the fi'iction torque of MFS increases and as the oil temperature increases, the friction torque of MFS decreases. Also, the experimental results show that the friction torque of Model II is 1.73 ~ 2.56, 2.0 ~ 2.89, 2.0 - 3.25 times larger than those of Model I under the atmospheric pressure, vacuum pressure(10$^{-4}$ and 10$^{-6}$ torr), respectively.

  • This paper deals with an experimental study on the friction torque characteristics of magnetic fluid seals for various oil temperatures, rotating speeds, and vacuum pressures. The friction torque of MFS was measured by high response torque meter.   • The dynamic model of a high-speed vacuum circuit breaker mechanism with spring-actuated cam and linkage is derived to simulate the high-speed closing and opening operations. Its validation for an analysis of high-speed motion behavior is checked through experiments. The characteristics of the friction on the camshaft are investigated using the nonlinear pendulum experiment. The parameters of the friction model are estimated using the optimization technique. The analysis exhibits that the friction of the pendulum depends on stick-slip, Stribeck effect and viscous damping. Comparing simulation results with actual responses using a high-speed camera, the appropriateness of derived dynamic models for the rapid closing and opening operations is shown. The spring motion, which has much influence on the closing responses, is observed.

Evaluation of Effectiveness of Vacuum Oral Cleaner Developed for Patients with Limited Mobility

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to compare the plaque removal effects of vacuum oral cleaner developed for the patients with limited mobility with those of manual toothbrushes and high pressure injection oral cleaner (dental water jet). Meterials and methods : Thirty human subjects were measured with Patient Hygiene Performance index (PHP index) and O'Leary index before and after the use of toothbrush, high pressure injection oral cleaner and vacuum oral cleaner. These three different oral hygiene methods were conducted with seven-day intermittence. Then the statistical analysis was carried out to define plaque removal rate of three different oral hygiene methods (${\alpha}=.05$). Results : According to the efficacy analysis of plaque removal before and after the oral cleaning using each of three methods, significant reduction in plaque after the treatment compared to the previous state when using toothbrush, high pressure injection oral cleaner, and vacuum oral cleaner was observed (P < 0.001). PHP index of tooth brushing was higher than that of the high pressure injection oral cleaner, while PHP index of vacuum oral cleaner did not show significant difference from either of the other two methods. There was no significance difference in O'Leary index among the three methods. Conclusion : Effect of plaque removal using the vacuum oral cleaner is comparable to that of manual tooth brush or high pressure injection oral cleaner, so it will be helpful for self-oral hygiene care of the patients with limited mobility.

  • This paper describes a CCM key comparison of low absolute-pressure standards at seven National Measurement Institutes that was carried out during the period March 1998 to September 1999 in order to determine their degrees of equivalence at pressures in the range 1 Pa to 1000 Pa. The Korea Research Institutes of Standards and Science(KRISS) participated from 10 Pa to 1000 Pa pressure range in 1999. The primary standards, which represent two principal measurement methods, included five liquid-column manometers and four static expansion systems. The transfer standard package consisted of four high-precision pressure transducers, two capacitance diaphragm gauges to provide high resolution at low pressures, and two resonant silicon gauges to provide the required calibration stability.

  • Cryopump(cryogenic pump), with integrating cryogenic skills into vacuum technology, is the most popular high vacuum pump system, which is widely used at the commercial vacuum industries with TMP. Hyunmin GVT, Inc. is the domestic unique professional manufacturer of the cryopump systems. About ten years ago, while GVT succeeded in domestically producing cryopump systems, this high technology initiated from US became localized completely. But the process of the home production was not easy. It was possible through many trials and errors and after efforts and sacrifices of our engineers. Now many users and customers have the benefit of the advantage and excellence of the domestic cryopump systems. Especially, these days GVT is conducting researches and developments regarding low vibration cryopump and large-sized CWPs and Cryo-TMPs.

  • In this study micro-thrust measurement method in high vacuum chamber is introduced. This is important for the development of micro-thruster for micro-satellite applications. At Chungnam national University, high-vacuum experimental facility has been constructed to simulate space environment. And strain gauge besed micro-thrust measurement in vacuum chamber has been studied and discussed.

  • Vacuum facility is required for high altitude space environment test to develop small thruster. We, at Chungnam National University, developed vacuum test facility up to $10^{-5}$ torr to simulate $100{\sim}120km$ altitude environment. Prior to operation, we predict vacuum pump performances and present preliminary calculation and experiments.

  • In OLED vacuum evaporation process, the essential requirements include good uniformity of the film thickness over a glass substrate. And, it is commercially significant to improve the consuming efficiency of material of the evaporant which is deposited on the substrate because of high price of organic materials. In this paper, to achieve the better thickness uniformity and the better organic material consuming rate, a process optimization algorithm was developed by understanding vacuum evaporation process parameters that affect the material consuming efficiency and the uniformity of film thickness. Based on the method developed in this study, the vacuum evaporation process of OLED was successfully controlled. The developed method allowed the manufacture of high quality OLED displays with cheaper fabrication cost.

  • It is not efficient and scarcely out of the question to use commercial expensive electron beam lithography system widely used for semiconductor fabrication process for the manufacturing application field of various devices in the small business scope. Then scanning electron microscope based electron beam machining system is maybe regarded as a powerful model can be used for it simply. To get a complete suite of thus proper system, proper chamber with high vacuum condition is necessarily required more than anything else to modify scanning electron microscope. In this study, special chamber unit using rotary pump and diffusion pump to obtain high vacuum degree was designed and manufactured and various evaluation tests fur recognize the vacuum characteristic were accomplished.
