Nowadays the integration of heterogeneous wireless networks become a hot issue in communications research area. Especiall,y, 3G and WiBro interworking will be introduced soon as users can be offered the most suitable service according to service area and service providers can reduce network construction and operation expenses. In this paper, we propose an interworking scheme for fast handoff between 3G and WiBro networks. The SCI (Smoothly Coupled Integration) scheme proposed in this paper takes advantages of the existing LCI (Loosely Coupled Integration) and TCI (Tightly Coupled Integration) scheme and can offer seamless services by providing fast handoff between 3G and WiBro although each network may work independently. Through extensive computer simulations using OPNET, the efficiency of the proposed scheme has been validated.

The tremendous growth of the Internet of things is unbelievable. Many IoT devices have emerged on the market over the last decade. This has made our everyday life easier inside our homes. The technology used at home has changed significantly over the past several decades, leading to what is known today as the smart home. However, this growth has also brought new challenges to our home security and privacy. With the smart home becoming more mainstream, cybersecurity issues have become a fundamental concern. The smart home is an environment where heterogeneous devices and appliances are interconnected through the Internet of Things (IoT) to provide smart services to residents. These services include home climate control, energy management, video on demand, music on-demand, remote healthcare, remote control, and other similar services in a ubiquitous manner. Smart home devices can be controlled via the Internet using smartphones. However, connecting smart home appliances to wireless networks and the Internet makes individuals vulnerable to malicious attacks. Remote access within the same environment or over the Internet requires an effective access control mechanism. This paper intends to shed light on how smart home devices are working as well as the type of security and privacy threats of the smart home. It also illustrated the types of authentication methods that can be used with smart home devices. In addition, a comparison of Smart home IoT-based security protocols was presented along with a security countermeasure that can be used in a smart home environment. Finally, a few open problems were mentioned as future research directions for researchers.
Ship Standard Network was submitted as a common subject of e-navigation by 81th IMO MSC 2005. This agenda was given an official status with strategy planning of e-navigation for Ship Standard Network after approval of WG program of 81th MSC 2006. Nowadays approximately 400 heterogeneous navigation and communication equipments are working on ships at sea. Standardization of ship network is to support exchanging various data efficiently. Among them, 4S network is defined as a wireless communication network between ship to ship and ship to shore which provides unceasing communication channel ship to shore. It has been expected to trigger various services and applications based on 4S network. However, no technologies and products has been appeared at fields yet. but now there's not specific technologies and developing products. In this paper, We developed a 4S multiple media switching server and a ship-land information exchange system to overcome the heterogeneity and provide efficient communication environments.. The performance of the implemented system was verified by TTA(Telecommunications Technology Association) V&V(Verification and Validation).
This paper investigates protocol architecture of a Web-ZigBee gateway for interconnecting TCP/IP-based networks and ZigBee/IEEE802.15.4-based wireless sensor networks. The Web-ZigBee gateway delivers data between the TCP/IP network and the ZigBee network. Since those two networks have different communication protocols, a protocol translation mechanism is needed. Herein, we propose a method to deliver query messages from the Internet to the sensor network and receive data from sensors. The protocol translation is performed in the translation layer that is placed above the two application layers, i.e., the Internet application layer and ZigBee application layer. Among various interfaces, we use CGI programming to take care of translation functions efficiently. The CGI manages query information from a client on the Internet and data from the ZigBee sensor network. Whereas the TCP/IP enabled sensor network overlays two heterogeneous communication protocols, overlaying layers increase the complexity and cost of implementing the sensor network. On the contrary, the sensors in our gateway-based system are not only light (because each communication protocol works independently without overlaying), but also efficient because the translation layer mostly alleviates header overloading.

We proposed a method for improving a performance of TCP downstream between a desktop PC as a fixed host and a PDA as a mobile host in a wired and wireless network based on IEEE 802.11x wireless LAN. With data transmission between these heterogeneous terminals a receiving time during downstream is slower than that during upstream by 20% at maximum. The reason is that their congestion window size will be oscillated due to a significantly lower packet processing rate at receiver compared to a packet sending rate at sender. Thus it will cause to increase the number of control packets to negotiate their window size. To mitigate these allergies, we proposed two distinct methods. First, by increasing a buffer size of a PDA at application layer an internal processing speed of a socket receive buffer of TCP becomes faster and then the window size is more stable. However, a file access time in a PDA is kept nearly constant as the buffer size increases. With the buffer size of 32,768bytes the receiving time is faster by 32% than with that of 512bytes. Second, a delay between packets to be transmitted at sender should be given. With an inter-packet delay of 5ms at sender a resulting receiving time is faster by 7% than without such a delay.

As the demand for ubiquitous mobile wireless Internet grows, vehicles are receiving a lot of attention as new networking platforms. The demand for 4G all-IP networks encourages vehicle networks to be connected using IPv6. By means of network mobility (NEMO) support, we can connect sensors, controllers, local ,servers as well as passengers' devices of a vehicle to the Internet through a mobile router. The mobile router provides the connectivity to the Internet and mobility transparency for the rest of the mobile nodes of an in-vehicle nv6 network. So, it is .important for the mobile router to assure reliable connection and a sufficient data rate for the group of nodes behind it. To provide reliability, this paper proposes an adaptive multihoming architecture of multiple mobile routers. Proposed architecture makes use of different mobility characteristics of different vehicles. Simulation results with different configurations show that the proposed architecture increases session preservation thus increases reliability and reduces packet loss. We also show that the proposed architecture is adaptive to heterogeneous access environment which provide different access coverage areas and data rates. The result shows that our architecture achieves sufficient data rates as well as session preservation.
A routing scheme called MCS-NLTC using a self-configuration marine network model and the diversity and heterogeneity of broadband wireless access technologies is newly proposed. The MCS-NLTC algorithm selects optimal nodes and carriers for every hop in optimal routes based on not conventional hop counts but normalized distances to destination ships (location information of destination ships). Normalized transmission characteristics of applications and carriers are considered to get optimal routes as well. The location information enhances convergence speed to get destinations, which makes the route search time faster. Evaluated performances are compared with those of the schemes based on max-win (OMH-MW), and normalized transmission characteristics (MCS-NTC).

The performance of TCP depends on the degree of traffic congestion between the sender and the receiver. The traffic could increase, and this causes congestion which may cause trouble in data transfer. Then, TCP tries to eliminate the trouble by reducing the transfer speed with slowstart scheme. When a mobile node moves over heterogeneous wireless networks, TCP experiences dramatic change of the amount of traffic, and it performs slowstart. In this paper, we propose the efficient scheme of TCP slowstart that should performs after vertical handoff. In this scheme, TCP receiver forces slowstart, which is different form normal schemes. Its performance is better than the normal schemes in that TCP sender experiences traffic congestion and performs slowstart. We perform simulation to measure and to verify the improved performance.

This paper proposes the EAP-AKA scheme without UICC for extending its usage to existing WLAN/WiBro devices. To apply the current EAP-AKA scheme, the WLAN/WiBro devices require an external Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC) reader. If they don't use UICC due to cost overhead and architectural problem of device, the EAP-AKA scheme loses its own advantages in security and portability aspects. The proposed scheme uses the DH key algorithm and a password for non-UICC devices instead of using the long-term key stored in UICC. The main contribution is to maintain the security and portability of the EAP-AKA while being applied to non-3GPP network devices not equipped with UICC. Furthermore, it does not require major modifications of authentication architecture in 3GPP.

Most of the current mobility management protocols such as MIPv4/6 and its variants standardized by the IETF do not support global seamless handover. This is because they require comprehensive changes of the existing network infrastructure. In this article, we propose a simple mobility management protocol (SMMP) which can support global seamless handover between homogeneous or heterogeneous wireless networks. The idea is that the SMMP employs separate location management function as done in SIP to support global user and service mobility. In addition, the bidirectional tunnels are dynamically constructed to support seamless IP mobility by extending the IEEE 802.21 MIH standards. The detailed architecture and functions of the SMMP have been designed. Finally, the simulation results, using NS-2, show that the proposed SMMP outperforms the existing MIPv6 and HMIPv6 in terms of handover latency, packet loss, pear signal noise ratio (PSNR).
