  • A high heat flux test facility using a graphite heating panel was constructed and is presently in operation at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, which is called KoHLT-1. Its major purpose is to carry out a thermal cycle test to verify the integrity of a HIP (hot isostatic pressing) bonded Be mockups which were fabricated for developing HIP joining technology to bond different metals, i.e., Be-to-CuCrZr and CuCrZr-to-SS316L, for the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) first wall. The KoHLT-1 consists of a graphite heating panel, a box-type test chamber with water-cooling jackets, an electrical DC power supply, a water-cooling system, an evacuation system, an He gas system, and some diagnostics, which are equipped in an authorized laboratory with a special ventilation system for the Be treatment. The graphite heater is placed between two mockups, and the gap distance between the heater and the mockup is adjusted to $2{\sim}3\;mm$. We designed and fabricated several graphite heating panels to have various heating areas depending on the tested mockups, and to have the electrical resistances of $0.2{\sim}0.5$ ohms during high temperature operation. The heater is connected to an electrical DC power supply of 100 V/400 A. The heat flux is easily controlled by the pre-programmed control system which consists of a personal computer and a multi function module. The heat fluxes on the two mockups are deduced from the flow rate and the coolant inlet/out temperatures by a calorimetric method. We have carried out the thermal cycle tests of various Be mockups, and the reliability of the KoHLT-1 for long time operation at a high heat flux was verified, and its broad applicability is promising.

  • In order to overcome trade-off among compositions, process and properties of the glasses with high PbO-base composition for PDP Rib, we studied glass crystallization and crystallization kinetics by Differential Thermal Analysis(DTA). Glass powder was obtained through melting/cooling/grinding, with 3 wt%TiO2 addition for the crystal nucleation and growth in $62PbO-19B_2O_3-10SiO_2-9(Al_2O_3-K_2O-BaO-ZnO)$(in wt%) composition glass. This powder was heat-treated for 1 to 10 h at $445^{\circ}C$ for nucleation. DTA measurements were performed to obtain the crystallization peak with $5∼25^{\circ}C/min$ heating rates. DTA crystallization peak temperature increased with increasing the heating rate and decreased with increasing the heating time. Because the Avrami parameter (n) was approximately 1, the surface crystallization occurred. The maximum nucleation time was 2 h.

  • The present paper focuses on the development of a model for simulating the thermoelectric behavior of CNTs/CFRP Organic Matrix Composite (OMC) laminates for aeronautical applications. The model is developed within the framework of the thermodynamics of irreversible processes and implemented into commercial ABAQUS Finite Element software and validated by comparison with experimental thermoelectric tests on two types of composites materials, namely Type A with Carbon Nanotubes (CNT) and Type B without CNT. A simplified model, neglecting heat conduction, is also developed for simplifying the identification process. The model is then applied for FEM numerical simulation of the thermoelectric response of aircraft panel structures subjected to electrical loads, in order to discuss the potential danger coming from electrical solicitations. The structural simulations are performed on quasi-isotropic stacking sequences (QI) $[45/-45/90/0]_s$ using composite materials of type A and type B and compared with those obtained on plates made of metallic material (aluminum). For both tested cases-transit of electric current of intermediate intensity (9A) and electrical loading on panels made of composite material-higher heating intensity is observed in composites materials with respect to the corresponding metallic ones.

  • When back-out & firing Process applies heat, hume is piled up in exhaust duct by organic compound and it have high dangerousness. There by, the process is happening a lot of damage that is exhaust duct fire. However we do not have certain fire dangerousness estimation and digestion countermeasure. So we need preventive measure. Back-out & firing is a process which has fine structure, electrical and mechanical characteristics, such as firing kiln and back-out kiln which has pipe line and box type. The box oven is made of heating coil, fan motor and control panel. Back-out & firing process has air circulation institution of quick ventilation type. When we operate this process for long time, fire can break out easily. Duct is made by zinc shredder. If fire breaks out in duct inside, fire by deposit fume can be dispersed easily. Accordinglym, This project estimate danger for back-out & firing process exhaust duct through real fire test. And there is purpose of study to establish preventive measure.

  • With the help of the development of digital-multimedia in the middle of 1990's, FDP(Flat Panel Display) had attracted considerable attention. Collimation proximity exposure system that transfers the pattern on wafer or glass exactly using mask and light with appropriate wavelength is core process in semiconductor and liquid display element. The performances of resolution required in precision exposure system are evaluated by resolving power, depth of focus and storage area. Most of development has targeted on these three factors. The optical design including lamp house has played an important role on the performance of exposure process. In this study, we evaluate the cooling system, concerning on exposure device with mercury lamp among the kernel equipment for the production of LCD, to prevent the instability of lighting due to long term accumulation of excessive heating inside the lamp house. Numerical analysis is conducted on full-scale model. The characteristics of three-dimensional flow, pressure and temperature distribution on exposure system are graphically depicted to estimate the whole cooling system for lamp house and to establish the design criteria.

  • Metallic sandwich panels with pyramidal truss structures are high-stiffness and high-strength materials with low weight. In particular, bulk structures have enough space for additional multi-functionalities. In this work, in order to fabricate 3-D structures efficiently, Layered Manufacturing Method (LMM) which was composed of three steps, including crimping process, stacking process and bonding process using rapid infrared brazing, was proposed. The joining time was drastically reduced by employing infrared brazing of which heating rate and cooling rate were faster than those of conventional furnace brazing. By controlling the initial cooling rate slowly, the bonding strength was improved up to the level of strength by conventional vacuum brazing. The observation of infrared brazed specimens by optical microscope and SEM showed no defect on the joining sections. The experiments of 1-layered pyramidal structures and 2-layered pyramidal structures subject to 3-point bending were conducted to determine structural advantages of multilayered structures. From the results, the multi-layered structure has superior mechanical properties to the single-layered structure.

  • The changes in microstructure and texture during annealing were examined in a series of 0.015% C-1.5% Mn cold-rolled sheet steels with 0~0.5% Mo. Orientation distribution function data were calculated from the (110), (200), (211) pole figures determined on the rolled plane of cold-rolled and annealed steel sheets. Regardless of Mo content and annealing conditions, martensite volume fraction was less than 1.0%, not affecting the texture evolution. Textural change at the cooling stage after heating at $820^{\circ}C$ for 67 sec was not observed. Increasing the Mo content and annealing temperature markedly strengthened the intensities of ${\gamma}$-fiber texture, resulting in the increase in $r_m$ value. The desirable texture evolution for deep drawability in the 0.5% Mo steel may be mainly caused by the grain refining effect of Mo carbide in the hot-rolled steel sheet.

  • Ecological architecture enables people to recycle and reuse architectural resources within the category of ecosystem and also to minimize the effect on environment in a whole process, including architectural planning, usage and exhaustion to use sustainable energies. Rammed earth wall construction method utilized in EcoCenter located in Crystalwaters ecological village in Austrailia is a good example, which maximizes its advantages and also covers its limits to use soil and wood as structural resources. In a case of wood, they used non-treated timber to minimize environmental load and utilized used materials in openings. In the roofs, aluminum coated steel which is plated with zinc collects rain effectively even though it is not regenerable. Nontoxic finishes and insulation in floor and ceiling with used papers are able to minimize its environmental load. Solar energy system applied in EcoCenter enables them to market extra energy with electricity companies as well as support needs of its own buildings to utilize photovoltaic panel system with PV panels. Passive solar system is planned effectively in heating and cooling to apply regenerative walls in a use of rammed earth wall construction and natural ventilation systems through openings.
