  • Concrete cracks due to hydration heat are a serious problem, particularly in mass concrete structures such as box rahmen, dam or footing of pier, etc.. As a result of the temperature rise and restriction condition of foundation, the thermal stress which may induce the cracks can occur. In this, study, ABAQUS program package was used to calculate the temperature distributions generated by hydration heat and the thermal stress in box rahmen structure which have thickness of 1.7~2.2m, and applied for various equations of adiabatic temperature rise such as korean code, japanese code, convection coefficient and low heat cement code.

  • The research was investigated the hydration heat and the fundamental properties of concrete using high volume mineral admixture for reducing hydration heat temperature. The results were that compared to OPC 100%, the dosage of superpasticizer agents was decreased about 50% degree at the same flowing, and the compressive strength was developed about 95% degree. Also, temperature rise of heat of hydration was decreased by 36~48% comparing to OPC and FA25, and it is estimated that it will have a large effect to hydration heat reduction of mass concrete.

  • Recently, the crack of concrete induced by the heat of hydration of cement is a serious problem for more greater, special and higher strength of concrete structures. The increasing concrete's temperature is mainly caused by the heat of hydration of cement and so, to control the thermal stress of concrete structure is desirable to use low heater material of hydration. There are many methods to diminish the increasing of concrete temperature such as using of low heat cement, addition of fly-ash, application of pre-cooling, etc., and in this study, we evaluate the heating and mechanical properties of ultra low heat mass concrete using Low Heat Portland(KS Type IV) cement with 30% of limestone powder. The results of this study will be applied to side wall and bottom of No. 15 and 16 of underground LNG tank in Inchon.

  • A thermal stresses by heat of hydration was analyzed according to a change of a pour height in reactor containment building. In case of more than 3.6m pouring height a crack index by heat of hydration analysis resulted in less than 1 because there is not a construction joint of vertical direction and for a self-restraint effect of circumferential section shape. Therefore detailed consideration on a mixture proportion of binder type, quantity in concrete and selection of a form in seasonal air temperature is needed for a control of tensile stress by heat of hydration.

  • This paper presents the result of adiabetic temperature rise and fundamental properties of concrete combining admixtures. According to results, difference of setting time with I5.5hours is observed between S-P and R-F30 mixture. Based on the adiabetic temperature rise test, 8$^{circ}C$of heat producted occurs between E-P and R-F30 mixture. is applied to estimate the temperature rising under adiabetic curing condition, which exhibits closer consistency with tested value. The function mentioned above can account for the effect of dormant period in hydration process at early stage on hydration heat production. It reveals that the consideration of placing layer based on the mixture adjustment(E-P mixture at top layer and R-F30 mixture at bottom layer) in mass concreting will contribute to reduce hydration heat as well as alleviate tensile stress discrepancy between placing layer.

  • When concrete member become large like in high rise buildings, hydration heat makes temperature difference inside and outside and cause cracks. The method of using latent heat material as heat reducer could be more accessible, usable and efficient than other methods. Therefore, many studies using PCM as heat reducer are being conducted. Since heat reducer have different reacting temperature, they may be affected by environmental factors like ambient and concrete mixing temperature but studies issuing this are insignificant. Therefore, this paper attempt to evaluate the hydration heat characteristics and quality of concrete using strontium-based PCM under hot weather conditions. As a result, when the strontium-based hydration heat reducer was mixed 3wt.% and 5wt.% in hot weather condition, hydration heat speed and heating rate could be reduced by 8%, 21%, and 75, 85 minutes compared to OPC, respectively. This is considered to be the phase change reaction is relatively promoted when the temperature is high and cause improve performance than room condition result. Later, comparing the efficiency of other types of P.C.M in hot weather condition, and conduct detailed reviews on the strength development in long-term age.

  • In process of reinforced concrete(RC) box structure, the heat of hydration may cause serious thermal cracking problems. In order to eliminate hydration heat of mass concrete, this paper reports results of hydration heat control in mass concrete using the OCHP(Oscillating Capillary tube Heat Pipe). Recently OCHP is drawn special attention from these points of low cost as well as short construction schedule for the manufacturing of heat exchanger, flexibility, simplification and high performance. There were three RC box molds$(1.2{\times}1.2{\times}1.2m)$ which shows a difference as compared with each other. One was not equipped with OCHP. While others were equipped with OCHP and these were cooled with air natural convection and spraying water respectively. The OCHP was composed of copper pipe with 12 turns(O.D : 4mm, I.D : 2.8mm). The working fluid was R-22 and its charging ratio was 30(Vol. %). In order to analyze the distribution of temperature and index figure of thermal crack in sequential placement of mass concrete, we used HYCON of computer program. As a result of the experiment, the peak temperature decreased about $15.6\sim23.4^{\circ}C$ than the general specimen and the probability of thermal crack generated in mass concrete decreased up to 0%.

  • In this study, with new office construction site of S Construction company as subject, to solve all the problems according to reduced hydration heat and temperature crack of mass concrete used mat foundation and placing time difference, low heat combination of coarse particle cement and fly-ash and setting time difference applied AE water reducing agent, and to prevent the early frost damage caused by low outdoor temperature, a heat insulation method using double bubble sheet was conducted. As a result, it was found that hydration heat and setting time difference was reduced by applying a low heat combination and setting time difference construction method, and that the high insulation capability of the double bubble sheet was able to not only prevent the early frost damage but also reduce temperature difference between the central part and the upper part of mass concrete.

  • Adiabatic temperature rise test for predicting heat of hydration in mass concrete is especially inconvenient in the field. In order to overcome the problem, the equipment to effectively and conveniently measure semi-adiabatic temperature change was developed. The main objective of this paper is to propose a new and simple equipment for measuring semi-adiabatic temperature rise by using insulation bottles. In order to predict exact heat loss of concrete using this device, it is required to assume the specific heat loss coefficient of the device by water temperature change inside the experimental device. According to experimental and analytical results, the adiabatic temperature rise does not have significant differences in changes of temperature and humidity of air, as well as initial temperature of water. By comparing adiabatic temperature rise tests, the equipment for measuring semi-adiabatic temperature change can be used to predict the hydration heat of concrete within sufficient accuracy.
