  • In the high speed rail system, the distortion of the voltage and the current waveform of the input power line increases the power loss and make a several electro-magnetic problems such as EMI or the interference of the communication line. In this paper, the control scheme of the PWM converter to make a good power factor and to regulated the output voltage as well as to reduce the harmonic component of the input current is proposed. Also a control schem of the PWM converter in the parallel operation to reduce the harmonics of the input current is proposed

  • This paper describes the principles and structures of an expert system for arrester diagnosis. The expert system analyzes and decides the arrester condition by total leakage current, its harmonic component, and temperature because the deterioration of arresters appeared in an increase of leakage current and surface temperature of it. Additionally, influence of system voltage harmonics and ambient temperatures on leakage current changes were considered in the design. The expert system is consisted of a data acquisition module and a computer for monitoring. The acquired analog data are digitalized and transmitted to the computer by an optical link which is free from interference.

  • Important category of brushless ac machine design is emerging in which the fundamental component of the stator MMF has fewer poles than the rotor. the torque being developed by a higher order MMF harmonic. The fundamental and lower order MMF harmonics can then give rise to significant rotor eddy currents. An analytical model is developed to predict rotor-induced eddy currents in such machines, and to quantify the effectiveness of circumferentially segmenting the permanent magnets in reducing the rotor loss.

  • This paper presents the detecting algorithm of inrush current which causes protective equipment to maloperate in energizing a power distribution line. This detecting algorithm uses the method which extracts the decay component and energy of 2nd harmonics by Prony Spectral Estimation Method existed AR model to new ARMA model. In this paper, the inrush currents are obtained by model simulations and fild tests. By applying these data to the detecting algorithm, it has been confirmed to discriminate inrush currents from fault currents.

  • The torque ripple reduction method is studied to improve the speed fluctuation of permanent magnet flat type brushless DC motors. To reduce the torque ripple, this study developed the compensation method of the 5'th harmonics component of air gap flux waveform which pass through the driving coils. 1/2 inch VTR was considered. As the result of this study, we can reduce the torque ripple and the speed fluctuation of the capstan motor about 20% then before and we can obtain not only better characteristics of wow/flutter but more useful capstan motors which can be applied in the multi-function VTRs.

  • This paper describes the position accuracy performance improvement of hybrid type LPM. The harmonics are included in the thrust force component of LPM, those are generated from the the nonlinearity of intrinsic magnetic saturation characteristic and mechanical construction, and so on. In this paper, the performance improvable methode is proposed for the better thrust force by the corrected exciting current injection, and precise position control is achieved.

  • In speech signal processing, it Is very important to detect the pitch exactly in speech recognition, synthesis and analysis. but, it is very difficult to pitch detection from speech signal because of formant and transition amplitude affect. therefore, in this paper, we proposed a pitch detection using the spectrum flattening techniques. Spectrum flattening is to eliminate the formant and transition amplitude affect. In time domain, positive center clipping is process in order to emphasize pitch period with a glottal component of removed vocal tract characteristic. And rough formant envelope is computed through peak-fitting spectrum of original speech signal in frequency domain. As a results, well get the flattened harmonics waveform with the algebra difference between spectrum of original speech signal and smoothed formant envelope. After all, we obtain residual signal which is removed vocal tract element The performance was compared with LPC and Cepstrum, ACF 0wing to this algorithm, we have obtained the pitch information improved the accuracy of pitch detection and gross error rate is reduced in voice speech region and in transition region of changing the phoneme.

Bi-spectrum for identifying crack and misalignment in shaft of a rotating machine

  • Bi-spectrum is a tool in the signal processing for identification of non-linear dynamic behvaiour in systems, and well-known for stationary system where components are non-linearly interacting. Breathing of a crack during shaft rotation is also exhibits a non-linear behaviour. The crack is known to generate 2X (twice the machine RPM) and higher harmonics in addition to 1X component in the shaft response during its rotation. Misaligned shaft also shows similar such feature as a crack in a shaft. The bi-spectrum method has now been applied on a small rotating rig to observe its features. The bi-spectrum results are found to be encouraging to distinguish these faults based on few experiments conducted on a small rig. The results are presented here.

  • This paper presents a parallel approach of formant synthesis method for haegeum on graphics processing units (GPU) using spectral modeling. Spectral modeling synthesis (SMS) is a technique that models time-varying spectra as a combination of sinusoids and a time-varying filtered noise component. A second-order digital resonator by the impulse-invariant transform (IIT) is applied to generate deterministic components and the results are band-pass filtered to adjust magnitude. The noise is calculated by first generating the sinusoids with formant synthesis, subtracting them from the original sound, and then removing some harmonics remained. The synthesized sounds are consequently by adding sinusoids, which are shown to be similar to the original Haegeum sounds. Furthermore, GPU accelerates the synthesis process enabling- real time music synthesis system development, supporting more sound effect, and multiple musical sound compositions.

Torque Ripple Reduction Using Torque Compensation Effect of an Asymmetric Rotor Design in IPM Motor

  • In this paper, torques of two motors are compared by Finite Element Analysis (FEA). One has a symmetric rotor structure and the other has an asymmetric rotor structure. The comparison shows that the asymmetric rotor structured motor has reduced torque ripple compared to the symmetric. The torque of the compared motor models was analyzed by separating into magnetic torque and reluctance torque. Through the analysis of torque component separated, it is shown that the magnetic torque and the reluctance torque compensate each other in the motor with the asymmetric structure rotor. Here "compensate" means decrementing the effect of one or more harmonics. It is shown how this compensation appears between the magnetic torque and the reluctance torque by looking into back electro motive force (emf) and the relative permeability distribution of rotor core.
