  • Most of the loads in industrial power distribution systems are usually balanced and connected to three power systems. However, in the user power distribution systems, partial loads are single & three phase and unbalanced, generating voltage unbalance by the impedance mismatching. Voltage unbalance has detrimental effects on three-phase induction motors, including over heating, line-current unbalance, derating, torque pulsation, low efficiency, etc. This paper presents a scheme on operation states of a three-phase induction motor under the unbalanced voltages with harmonics components. Three-phase voltages applied to the stator winding of the studied induction motor are controlled by respectively adjusting not only fundamental but also harmonics components. Harmonic components at the voltage unbalanced factor(VUF) of the three-phase source voltages can then be examined the different values of VUF on machine's operation characteristics.

  • Electrical equipment for railway is always experiencing wear and degradation by mechanical, electrical and environmental stress in service and the fault or the accident of high voltage main circuit directly causes operation interruption. Particularly propulsion drive of high speed switching inverter takes the form of specific degradation mechanism such as fast rising transient surge, reflective overvoltage and harmonic stress, and it is known that it threatens the long life and the reliability of electrical equipment. In this paper, statistics of fault and accident on main electrical equipment for railway are presented and also insulation degradation mechanism, which governs end life of electrical device, is analyzed. Finally the method of fault respondence and reliability improvement on the main electrical equipments will be reviewed in order to prevent operation interruption.

  • This paper presents the logic based islanding protection algorithm for distributed resources(DR) which are interconnected with distribution network. Due to the negative impacts from islanding operations of DR on protection, operation and management of distribution system, it is necessary to effectively detect the islanding operations of DR and disconnect it from distribution network rapidly. Generally, it is difficult to detect islanding operation by monitoring only one system parameter. The proposed islanding protection algorithm utilizes multi-criteria, voltage variation, phase displacement frequency variation, the variation of total harmonic distortion(THD) of current; therefore it effectively detects island operation of DR unit. We also verified the efficiency of the proposed algorithm using the radial distribution network of IEEE 34 bus model.

  • This paper presents the modeling and simulation studies, using PSCAD/EMTDC, for the operation of DR(Distributed Resources) connected to the power system. In this study, we model the DR operated in parallel with the distribution system and simulate several operation modes of DR. Finally, the transient characteristics of the operation modes are evaluated with IEEE Standard 519-1992. IEEE Recommended Practice and Requirements for Harmonic Control in Electric Power Systems

  • It's essential to evaluate harmonic characteristics of electric train because harmonics have negative effects on a main circuit of electric train, substations and communication system. So, we measured harmonics of electric train during test operating on conservational railroad, In the result, we can know relation between operation mode(acceleration, breaking operation and uniform speed operation) and harmonics.

  • This paper reviews a finite element model of a wire rope isolator (WRI) via an experimental comparison test. A local operation panel (LOP) mounted on a WRI is modeled using a finite element method. Mode analyses and harmonic analyses are conducted while varying of the thickness of the rope for the WRI. A feasible WRI can be selected considering the reduction of the vibration and the total weight of the LOP system.

  • This paper deals with the parallel operation of several numbers of PWM converters for a high speed railway train application. Several considerations are made to reduce the transformer interaction which can cause a current control problem in severe case. Also, in this paper, novel control strategy is proposed to achieve a harmonic free primary-side current control under a light load condition using one current sensor independent of the number of converters. In addition, the modified predictive current controller, which is suitable to a digital current controller with a relatively large sampling period, is used. Finally, to verify the system validity, digital control system with TMS320C44 micro-processor and small scale simulator are made and tested.

  • This paper proposes parallel operation of multi function rapid-charger with an active power filter. Rapid-charger can be installed in public institutions or mart parking lot. But conventional charger has disadvantage that it can not be used as the active power filter in charging mode with only one charger. So using 3-parallel operation, effective mode transfer between battery charging and APF function can obtain effect of harmonic compensation and improving the utilization of the charger.

  • In this paper, parallel operation systems with Z-source Inverters for the fuel cell systems are discussed. The carrier phase shifted SPWM(Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation) has an advantage in reducing harmonics of output current. However when this technique applies in parallel operation of Z-source inverters, it additionally produces circulating currents. The circulating current is analyzed and a method to prevent the circulating current is applied to the parallel operation systems of Z-source inverters. To maintain high performance with reduced circulating current in inverter output and low harmonic components in load current, circulating current reactors are used. The proposed approach is verified through simulation and experiment.

  • The field of power system harmonics has been receiving a great deal of attention recently. This is primarily due to the fact that non-linear (or harmonic-producing) loads comprise an ever-increasing portion of what is handled at a typical industrial plant. The incidence rate of harmonic-related problems is low, but awareness of harmonic issues can still help increase offshore power plant system reliability. On the rare occasion that harmonics become a problem, this is either due to the magnitude of harmonics produced or power system resonance. This harmonic study used an electrical configuration for the offloading scenario of a Floating LNG (FLNG) unit, considering power load. This electrical network configuration is visible in the electrical network load flow study part of the project. This study has been carried out to evaluate the performance of an electric power system, focusing on the harmonic efficiency of an electrically driven motor system to ensure offshore plant safety. In addition, the design part of this study analyzed the electric power system of an FLNG unit to improve the safety of operation and maintenance.
