  • This study deals with the interaction between buoyancy-induced convection and externally imposed excitation in the form of harmonic rocking and the effect of the interaction upon heat transfer in low-Pr liquids. A wide array of system responses are discussed using the spectral collocation numerical technique. The superposition of buoyancy and Coriolis forces leads to complex fluid flow and heat transfer. The transition to chaotic convection is accelerated, and heat transfer rates are reduced as the enclosure is excited at the fundamental frequency of oscillation associated with the pure buoyancy-driven case. Average heat transfer rates are correlated for Pr=0.02 and 0.03. The heat transfer is affected more in the Pr=0.03 liquid than the case of Pr=0.02.

  • In this study, to grasp the effect of vibration intensity fur the laminated composite plate, the two-dimension plate was shaken by a harmonic point excitation with the natural frequency using the finite element method. As the result, it shows that the vibration intensity according to the change of angle-ply is various and it flows to the direction of length rather than width in the plate. Also this paper represents those results to the vector flow.

  • To control the vibration and sound of structure, it is important to analyze the dynamic action of structure. And through those analysis, the vibration source and the flow path is understood. To grasp that, when the two-dimension plate structure is shaken by a harmonic point excitation with the natural frequency using the finite element method, this paper presents the relation between vibration power flow and mode shape. As those results present to vector flow, the vibration power flow is visualized.

  • In this paper, nonlinear nonplanar vibration of a flexible rectangular cantilever beam is analyzed when one-to-one resonance occurs to the beam. The planar and nonplanar motions of the beam are analyzed in time and frequency domains. In frequency domain, FFT analyzer is used to perform autospectrum and cepstrum analyses for nonlinear response of the beam. In time domain, an oscilloscope is used to investigate the phase difference between the planar and nonplanar motions and to perform Torus analysis in the phase space. Through those analyzing process, the main frequencies of superharmonic, subharmonic, and super-subharmonic motions are investigated in the nonplanar motion due to one-to-one resonance. Analyzing the phase difference between the planar and nonplanar motions, it is observed that the phase difference varies in time.

  • In this paper, to examine the difference between the linear and non-linear static, dynamic analysis for a structure, a cantilevered beam was used. Then, an external transverse static and dynamic loads were applied at the free end of the beam. Classical theories were used for the linear analysis and the EDISON CSD solver, co-rotational dynamic FEM program, was used for nonlinear analysis. In the static analysis, effects of the load for the beam deflection were observed in the linear and nonlinear analysis. Then, normalized displacement of tip of the beam was predicted for different frequency ration and a significant difference was obtained in the vicinity of the resonant frequency. In addition, effects of frequency and time for the beam deflection were investigated to find the frequency delay.

  • The present paper explores nonlinear dynamical properties of piezo-magnetic beams based on a nonlocal refined higher-order beam formulation and piezoelectric phase effect. The piezoelectric phase increment may lead to improved vibrational behaviors for the smart beams subjected to magnetic fields and external harmonic excitation. Nonlinear governing equations of a nonlocal intelligent beam have been achieved based upon the refined beam model and a numerical provided has been introduced to calculate nonlinear vibrational curves. The present study indicates that variation in the volume fraction of piezoelectric ingredient has a substantial impact on vibrational behaviors of intelligent nanobeam under electrical and magnetic fields. Also, it can be seen that nonlinear free/forced vibrational behaviors of intelligent nanobeam have dependency on the magnitudes of induced electrical voltages, magnetic potential, stiffening elastic substrate and shear deformation.

  • The radial vibration behaviors of a circular cylindrical composite piezoelectric transducer (CPT) are investigated. The CPT is composed of a piezoelectric ring polarized in the radial direction and an elastic ring graded in power-law variation form along the radial direction. The governing equations for plane stress state problem under the harmonic excitation are derived and the exact solutions for both piezoelectric and functionally graded elastic rings are obtained. The characteristic equations for resonant and anti-resonant frequencies are established. The presented methodology is fit to carry out the parametric investigation for composite piezoelectric transducers (CPTs) with arbitrary thickness in radial direction. With the aid of numerical analysis, the relationship between the radial vibration behaviors of the cylindrical CPT and the material inhomogeneity index of the functionally graded elastic ring as well as the geometric parameters of the CPTs are illustrated and some important features are reported.

  • To assure the reliability of cylinders or shells with fluid-filled annulus, it is necessary to investigate the modal characteristics considering fluid-structure interaction effect. In this study, theoretical background and several finite element models are developed for cylindrical shells with fluid-filled annulus considering fluid-structure interaction. The effect of the inclusion of the fluid-filled annulus on the natural frequencies is investigated, which frequencies are used for typical dynamic analyses such as responses spectrum, power spectral density and unit load excitation. Their response characteristics are addressed with respect to the various representations of the fluid-structure interaction effect.

  • Acoustic behavior in gas turbine combustor with acoustic resonator is investigated numerically by adopting linear acoustic analysis. Helmholtz-type resonator is employed as acoustic resonator to suppress acoustic instability passively. The tuning frequency of acoustic resonator is adjusted by varying its length. Through harmonic analysis, acoustic-pressure responses of chamber to acoustic excitation are obtained and the resonant acoustic modes are identified. Acoustic damping effect of acoustic resonator is quantified by damping factor. As the tuning frequency of acoustic resonator approaches the target frequency of the resonant mode to be suppressed. mode split from the original resonant mode to lower and upper modes appears and thereby complex patterns of acoustic responses show up. Considering mode split and damping effect as a function of tuning frequency, it is desirable to make acoustic resonator tuned to broad-band frequencies near the maximum frequency of those of the possible upper modes.

  • This paper investigates the static configurations and the dynamic behaviors of a single point mooring line. To obtain the static configuration and static tension distribution along the mooring line, including the effect of fluid nonlinear drag and the elasticity of the line, the Runge-Kutta fourth order numerical method was used. The relationship between the horizontal excursion and the horizontal restoring force component of the mooring line, which is very important to a mooring line design, and the effect of a subsurface buoy on the static configuration are presented. In nonlinear dynamic analysis including nonlinear fluid drag acting on the line and geometrical nonlinearity for large deflections, finite element method using updated Lagrangian was used to obtain the solution. In the case of upper end harmonic excitation of the mooring line, the dynamic motion and the tension were also presented.
