Properties of Wollastonite-Reinforced Glass-Ceramics Made from Waste Automobile Glass and Waste Shell

  • Wollastonite-type glass ceramics were prepared by milling and firing at various temperatures using an automobile waste glass and waste shell as starting materials. Powder mixture ground by disk-type ball mill for 3 hours was pressed into a disk. The pressed specimen was fired at $850^{\circ}C$,$950^{\circ}C$ and $1050^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour in air. From FE-SEM observation, with an increase of the firing temperature from $850^{\circ}C$ to $1050^{\circ}C$, whisker-type phase was grown to about 10 $\mu\textrm{m}$ in length. Specimen fired at $1050^{\circ}C$ showed the formation of well-crystallized whisker-type wollastonite grains and the highest compressive strength.

  • Humidity sensing cheracterisrics of vacuum deposited plasma poly merized $YbPc_2$ films were evaluated. In both films, humidity caused an increase of pro-ton conduction. Polymerised film shows a threshold fo humidity increase and its sensitivity diminishes more than $38^{\circ}C$ of relative humidity. Furthermore, for the polymerized film, two min. of resssponse time and 1 min. of recovery time are also obtained. The sensitivity between 10% and 85% of relative hum-idities is found to be one hundred higher than that of the vacuum deposited film.

  • 본 연구는 건설 구조물의 정밀한 미세 변위 모니터링 관리시스템 개발을 위한 공간적으로 참조 가능한 모든 형태의 측위정보를 효과적으로 수집, 저장, 갱신, 조정, 분석, 표현할 수 있도록 새로운 GNSS과 원격탐사측량 등의 신기술을 적용하여 건설 구조물의 주요부 위에 대한 mm급의 다양한 측위분석이 가능한 사용자 요구에 즉시 부응할 수 있는 검색 시스템을 개발하기 위한 신기술을 연구하였다. 이를 통하여 건설구조물의 설계 및 시공 도면과 정밀한 공간정보를 유기적으로 결합할 수 있도록 하여 반영구적인 주요 시설물의 정밀한 미세변위의 변형을 추적하여 방재관리에 효율적으로 신기술이 체계적으로 사용되도록 할 것이다. 특히, 최근에 많은 관심을 가지고 있는 USN/UAV의 환경센서기반의 무인의 간이사진측량시스템을 활용하여 건설구조물를 대상으로 하는 실제 측정을 통하여 지형공간정보와 시설물의 위치정보를 지도로 제작하고 이를 기반으로 하는 다양한 방재의 신기술을 비교분석하여 최적의 건설방재기술을 검토하였다.

Novel Disease Model of Chronic Neutrophilic Leukemia

  • The experimental manipulation of protooncogenes and their gene products is a valuable research tool for the study of human neoplasia. In this study, the recently identified human cervical cancer protooncogene (HccR-2) was expressed in transgenic mice under the control of the tetracycline regulatory system. The phenotype observed was similar in many respects to human chronic neutrophilic leukemia (CNL). Thus, the HccR-2 transgenic mouse model is important not only for investigating the biological properties of the HccR-2 protooncogene in vivo, but also for analyzing the mechanisms involved in the progression of CNL.

  • The experimental manipulation of protooncogenes and their gene products is a valuable research tool for the study of human neoplasia. In this study, the recently identified human cervical cancer protooncogene (HccR-2) was expressed in transgenic mice under the control of the tetracycline regulatory system. Mice expressing the HccR-2 transgene showed an altered myeloid development characterized by an increased percentage of mature and band-form neutrophils in the peripheral blood, liver and spleen. This phenotype is similar to human chronic neutrophilic leukemia (CNL) in many ways, which is a rare chronic myeloproliferative disorder (CMD) that presents as a sustained leukocytosis of mature neutrophils with a few or no circulating immature granulocytes, an absence of peripheral blood monocytosis, basophilia, or eosinophilia, and an infiltration of neutrophils into the liver, spleen and kidney. Thus, the HccR-2 transgenic mouse model is imperative not only for investigating the biological properties of the HccR-2 protooncogene in vivo, but also for analyzing the mechanisms involved in the progression of CNL.

  • In this paper, an efficient contour coding algorithm incorporating polygonal approximation and discrete sine transform is introduced. Contour information is inevitable in content based coding, and polygonal approximation method is widely used to compress the contour information. However polygonal approximation method is not suitable when fine contour is needed. We show that the error signal of polygonal approximation can be efficiently represented using DST, that is, the contour information can be represented accurately with polygons and DST coefficients. With this contour coding scheme, the required bits to represent a contour can be reduced by about 40-50% with virtually no degradation compared to the existing chain coding method.

  • Because National Fire Safety Codes is mixed performance criteria and specification, and it defines the fire extinguish equipment type and standards that need to be installed in a building as one method. Therefore, to fully reflect the fire risk characteristics of the building, such as the wooden building there is a limit. In this study, suggested to the performance criteria drawn methodologies through fire load of wooden buildings studies, theory on performance and performance analysis to fire extinguish equipment of the wooden buildings is installed according to current fire safety codes.

  • In order to discover differences that may exist in quantity of medical care services, length of stay and hospital charges between insured and non-insured patients, records for primary Cesarean section patients discharged between July 1978 and June 1980 from a university hospital were examined. In addition, Cesarean section rates among the total deliveries for a two-year period between the two groups were studied. The results shelved that volume of services was greater and length of stay was longer among the insured, however, charges were higher among the non-insured. Cesarean section rates were statistically significantly different between insured and non-insured patients for every age group except the group of 35 or more.

  • The purpose of this work is to general approach to numerically simulating wear in rolling and sliding contact area between wheel and rail interface based on the analysis of dynamics with general MBS package. A simulation scheme is developed that calculates the wear at a detailed level. The estimation of material removal follows Archard's wear equation which states that the reduction of volume is linearly proportional to the sliding distance, the normal applied load and the wear coefficient and inverse proportional to hardness. The main research application is the wheel-rail contact of Korea High Speed Railway.

Electronic Structures of Graphene on Ru(0001) : Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy Study

  • Graphene is the hottest topic in condensed-matter physics due to its unusual electronic structures such as Dirac cones and massless linear dispersions. Graphene can be epitaxially grown on various metal surfaces with chemical vapor deposition processes. Such epitaxial graphene shows modified electronic structures caused by substrates. Here, local geometric and electronic structures of graphene grown on Ru(0001) will be presented. Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy (STS) was used to reveal energy dependent atomic level topography and position-dependent differential conductance spectra. Both topography and spectra show variations from three different locations in rippled structures caused by lattice mismatch between graphene and substrate. Based on the observed results, structural models for graphene on Ru(0001) system were considered.
