  • This study aims to examine and classify plane types of Hanok at Haengbok village, analyze changes, area distribution and space structures of space components and sort plane types and their characteristics. Plane types were divided into four; living room, kitchen, dining room, etc. These plane types were labelled as LK type, L+K type, L+DK type and LDK type. LK type and L+K type were mainly found at single-wing house and made of living room and kitchen centered space structure, but substantially they were designed to ensure guest room, room and living room. Therefore, hanok built at Haengbok village were designed to combine the functions of residential function and lodging. Plane type was preferred to be used for double functions of residence and lodging. On the other side, L+DK type and LDK type were mainly found in house with several wings and they were designed centering around living room for family space. In addition entrance was placed to simplify entry from the outside and each room and guest room were arranged to be accessed from living room. It means that the functions of house focused on residence rather than lodging and all rooms had the structure to be used as residential space in case of emergency.

  • The purpose of this study is to grasp how B la Bartok's 'Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta' was expressed in 'Stretto House' of Steven Holl. In conclusion, it is found that phenonenological temporality was expressed through the following equation: (equation omitted). More specifically, it is clarified that the stretto of the musical piece was expressed in the spatial overlapping of the house; the inversion, in the form change of the plan and section of the guest house; the symmetrical proportion and Golden Section, in the same proportion of the house section; the melody of theme, in the shape of the roof. This shows the possibility of approach to the substance of interior and architectural design through music.

  • The old house at No'eun-ri, located in Hongseong-gun Hongbuk-myeon of the Chungcheong Nam-do province, really seems like the old house of late Seong Sam-mun who died in 1456. The original structure of the house seems to have been symmetrical, in terms of its left and right sides, and the females' chamber(Anchae) as well as the guest quarters(Haeng'rang-chae) would have featured a Matbae(맞배) fashion. The flank chamber and corridor would have displayed a multi-storied shape, and people would have been able to traverse the inside of the house all the way to the second story of the residence. We can see such shapes and dispositions from other 'ㅁ'-shaped houses - found in Chungnam and Gyeongbuk regions - which are now considered as distinct characteristics of certain residences constructed before the war with the Japanese in the 1590s, confirmed from extant vestiges and historical records of that time period. It can be concluded that the old house at No'eun-ri does harbor the traits and elements that resembled the upper class residences of the Joseon dynasty's early half period.

  • Guest guidance system based on the compact battery-less information terminal, Aimulet, which has been developed by the authors of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan. Conventional Aimulet, which is Aimulet ver.1 or CoBIT, has features of location and direction sensitive information service device without batteries. On the other hand, the Aimulet has two subjects, one is multiplex and demultiplex of some contents, and the other is operation under sunshine. Former subject is of solved by the wavelength multiplex technique using LED emitter with different wavelength and dielectric optical filters. Latter subject is solved by new micro spherical solar cells with a visible-light-eliminating optical filter and a new design of light irradiation. These techniques are applied to the EXPO 2005, Aichi Japan and introduced in public. Aimulet GH is Former technique is applied on Aimulet GH, which is used in Orange Hall of the Global House, scientific museum with a fossil of a frozen mammoth.

Because a space for man in these countries has the same nature represented as a typical space in a upper classes house, and this space is differentiated by regional features, a way of thinking, a way of life and social structure as well, these characteristics are compared one another. Import of Confucianism influenced formation of a upper classes house and the spaces of the house are divided by generation, sexuality and classes. A space for man become a center of the house as well as a space for reception in accordance with patriarchism because this space stands for hierarchy of the house. A space for man of each country, Korea, China and Japan, has differences; that is, Chinese Jeongbang is used as a space for family as well as for guests; Korean Sarangchae is for only men and used as a reception space; Japanese Zasiki is used just for reception. These differences among countries are caused by owner's class, a civil officer or a military officer, and this class differentiated the characteristics of reception for guest. Even though the these countries take the space for man for meeting, Chinese is for family, Korean is for ancestors and Japanese is for guests.

  • The actural condition of rural house polts, houses and their attached facilities was surveyed in CHUNGCHEONGBUK-DO in order to find out existing residential problems. From the data collected, general influencing factors, housing/residential environmental qualities, and farmer's opinion on them were analyzed or obtained as the basic design criteria for future projects. The structural shape of rural housing should be developed on the basis of our traditional one. The materials of wall should be made from soil sourced one. Kitchin room and rest room should be improved in view of the Western style. Residential space should be harmonized our traditional one(reception of a guest preferred) with westernized living space(nuclear family life preferred). The plane planning of 'ㄷ' type would be generally preferred in the block planning of rural housing and attached facilities. Livestock pens and compost houses would be seperated from, while storehouses would be coexisted with a living space.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand various styles of Korean house living, up to the present, to identify apartment living as the main house living, and plan and propose the interior unit spaces for apartment house based on the analysis on living space. A survey study was conducted to deduce the traditional major life style and its changes along with favorable housing spaces. In conclusion, this study proposed the unit space planning requirements that satisfies the conceptual and interior elements for habitant's characteristics and preference according to major life style as follow; 1) As the Ahn-bang(master bed room) has been changed from traditional space concept, it is mainly used as private space for husband and wife, and its utilized period is mostly at night time, the back-arrangement of the Ahn-bang should be considered. 2) As the living room is central space in the apartment housing and has complex functions which is utilized as space for family gathering and guest reception similar to the Ahn-bang of the traditional house, it should secure more space and it is desirable to arrange the space as open type by combining the pathway area. 3) As for the kitchen/dining room, the kitchen should be isolated from external attraction and the space for storing and preparing traditional foods should also considered, and the dining room should be arranged as open type. This study also suggests that since the apartment housing must be an integrated environment for habitants which satisfy behavioral, physical and mental elements simultaneously, the unit housing space should be constantly analyzed in various ways to produce a housing space which meet both their changing major life style and the temporal environment.
