The capacity constraints of tie-lines in production cost analysis are very important issues in the operation and planning of MicroGrid power systems. This paper presents the Harmony Search(HS) algorithm to solve the Economic Dispatch (ED) problem with tie-line capacity limits in MicroGrid system. The applied HS algorithm has achieved efficient and accurate solutions for three-area MicroGrid systems with renewable power units.

Slab-column joints have been used in the constructions of many structures and buildings. However, as the prediction of the failure behavior and ultimate strength of the joints subjected to lateral loadings is very difficult, the current building and structural design codes do not explain the failure behavior of the joints clearly. In this study, the applicability of the 3-dimensional grid strut-tie model approach, suggested for analysis and design of 3-dimensional structural concrete with disturbed regions, to the ultimate analysis and design of the joints is examined by evaluating the failure strengths of 43 slab-column joints tested to failure. The validity of the 3-dimensional grid strut-tie model approach is also verified by comparing the strength evaluation results with those by ACI 318-05 and FIB 1999.
This paper proposes a protection algorithm for a wind turbine generator (WTG) in a large wind farm. To minimize the outage section, a protection relay for a WTG should operate instantaneously for an internal fault or a connected feeder fault, whereas the relay should not operate for an internal fault of another WTG connected to the same feeder or an adjacent feeder fault. In addition, the relay should operate with a delay for an inter-tie fault or a grid fault. An internal fault of another WTG connected to the same feeder or an adjacent feeder fault, where the relay should not operate, is determined based on the magnitude of the positive sequence current. To differentiate an internal fault or a connected feeder fault from an inter-tie fault or a grid fault, the phase angle of the negative sequence current is used to distinguish a fault type. The magnitude of the positive sequence current is then used to decide either instantaneous operation or delayed operation. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified under various fault conditions with EMTP-RV generated data. The results indicate that the algorithm can successfully distinguish instantaneous operation, delayed operation, or non-operation depending on fault positions and types.

In this paper, FDTD analysis of the bow-tie antenna is investigated by incorporating static field solution that is suitable to the bow-tie antenna without increasing computational time. Transforming static feld solution to the rotated grid system, we can obtain the transformed static field solution which is able to represent field behavior near the oblique edge line of the bow-tie antenna. The result shows a good agreement with a MoM analysis and is compared conformal modeling technique and regular FDTD method.
We have conducted Preliminary investigation to propose a suitable site for superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) installation in the KEPCOs 154kV grid This investigation limited the application SFCL to the bus-tie position of the grid in the Seoul area. First, we calculated maximum Potential fault current for all substations. Then, among substations where the fault current exceeds the CB capacity, rye selected two substations where buses are being operated untied. For the selected two. S S/S and M S/S. fault currents at the M S/S were estimated to be 22.5㎄ and 24.3㎄ for two buses untied respectively, but 44.2㎄ if buses were tied. Simulation using a hypothetical SFCL of 5 Ohm impedance showed that it controlled the fault current up to 20. 1㎄ for bus-tie Position, 28.4㎄ and 29.9㎄ for both buses. respectively, each of which are under the capacity of the currently installed 31.5㎄ GIS. For both substations a SFCL with 5 Ohm impedance successfully controls the fault current under the CB capacity, and 10 Ohm SFCL may be recommendable to maximize the SFCL effect.

In this study, the ultimate strengths of 13 slab-column joints and 51 torsional beams were evaluated to verify the validity of the strut-tie model approach presented in the companion paper. In addition, the design of the bridge pier subjected to multiple load combinations with longitudinal and lateral loads was conducted. The analysis results were compared with those by the provisions of BS 8110, ACI 318, and AASHTO-LRFD. The design results of the bridge pier were also compared with those by the provisions of ACI 318's sectional design method and AASHTO-LRFD's strut-tie model method.

The Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) is widely used in grid-tie inverter applications to achieve the synchronization between the inverter and the grid. However, its performance is deteriorated when the grid voltage is not pure sinusoidal due to the harmonics and the frequency deviation. Therefore it is important to design a high performance phase-locked loop (PLL) for the single phase inverter applications to guarantee the quality of the inverter output. In this paper a simple method to improve the performance of the PLL for the single phase inverter is proposed. The proposed PLL is able to accurately estimate the fundamental frequency component of the grid voltage even in the presence of harmonic components. In additional its transient response is fast enough to track a change in grid voltage within two cycles of the fundamental frequency. The effectiveness of the proposed PLL is confirmed through the PSIM simulation and experiments.

A new algorithm is proposed for the estimation of equivalent grid impedance at the point of common coupling of a grid-tie inverter output. The estimated impedance parameter can be used for the improvement of the performance and the stability of the distributed generation system. The estimation error is inevitable in the conventional estimation method because of the axis rotation due to PLL. In the conventional estimation error, the d-q voltage and current are used for the calculation of the impedance with active and reactive current injections. Conversely, in the proposed algorithm, the negative sequence current is injected, and then the negative sequence voltage is measured for the impedance estimation. As the positive and negative sequence current controller is independent and the PLL is based on the positive sequence component only, the estimation of the equivalent impedance can be achieved with high accuracy. Simulation and experimental results are compared to validate the proposed algorithm.
In the past, the progressive collapse resulting from local failures during accidents has caused many tragedies and loss of life. Although long-span spatial grid structures are characterised by a high degree of static indeterminacy, the sudden failure of key members may lead to a catastrophic progressive collapse. For this reason, it is especially necessary to research the progressive collapse resistance capacity of long-span spatial grid structures. This paper presents an evaluation method of important members and a novel dynamic analysis method for simulating the progressive collapse of long-span spatial grid structures. Engineering cases were analysed to validate these proposed method. These proposed methods were eventually implemented in the progressive collapse analysis of the main stadium for the Universiade Sports Center. The roof of the structure was concluded to have good resistance against progressive collapse. The novel methods provide results close to practice and are especially suitable for the progressive collapse analysis of long-span spatial grid structures.
