  • After the COVID-19 pandemic, a global economic downturn and a recession in the shipping market are expected, it is important for domestic shipping companies to establish appropriate strategy in response to the recession. Accordingly, domestic shipping companies should grow into integrated logistics companies that combine shipping and logistics in the future. And for this purpose, it is necessary to actively promote logistics integration with external shipping and logistics companies. This paper presents the direction of logistics integration for domestic shipping companies to develop as integrated logistics operators with competitiveness in the global shipping market, and presents detailed alternatives. Domestic shipping companies lack the infrastructure such as ships, port terminals, and warehouses, so they have a weak capacity to independently promote logistics integration. At the shipping company level, a logistics integration promotion strategy should be established, and accordingly, logistics infrastructure, service network, and logistics integration operating system should be established. The government should provide tax benefits for logistics integration, financial support for M&As led by domestic shipping companies, a standardized information sharing system, and preparation of educational courses for nurturing digital manpower.

  • The import content of exports (ICE) is defined as the amount of foreign input embodied in one unit of export, and it has been used as a measure of the degree of integration into the global production network. In this paper, we suggest an alternative measure based on the decomposition of gross output and imports into the contributions of final demand terms. This measure considers the manner in which a country manages its domestic production base (gross output) and utilizes the foreign sector (imports) simultaneously and can thus be regarded as a more comprehensive measure than ICE. Korea's input-output tables in 1970-2018 are used in this paper. These tables were rearranged according to the same 26-industry classification so that these measures can be computed with time-series continuity and so that the results can be interpreted clearly. The results obtained in this paper are based on extended time-series data and are expected to be reliable and robust. The suggested indicators were applied to these tables, and, based on the results we conclude that the overall importance of the global economy in Korea's economic strategy has risen and that the degree of Korea's integration into the global production network increased over the entire period. This paper also shows that ICE incorrectly measures the movement of the degree of integration into the global production network in some periods.

  • This paper analyzed the functional global entry process of firms by real business cases. We reviewed the global firm Zara and Uniqlo's functional global entry process by Malnight (1995) four-step model which is composed of appendage, participation, contribution, integration stages. We found that both Zara and Uniqlo made successful internationalization using integrated global value chain. However, Zara maintained the home-initiated internationalization strategy on whole value chain, Uniqlo operated subsidiary-initiated functional strategy in specific value chain activities. This study suggests that internationalization occurs at the level of the function, rather than the firm. In addition, this study suggests practical implication to Korean fashion firms that global firms should maintain the functional global entry strategy basing on firm's internationalization steps.

The company's ultimate objective is to win and maintain a sustained dominant position in the uncertainties of the global environment and future competitiveness. In this respect, this study examined the effects of management strategy, collaboration process and SCM integration on corporate performance in small and midsize parts manufacturers. The results of empirical analysis are summarized as follows. Management strategy, collaboration process and SCM integration had positive effects on corporate performance in domestic small and midsize parts manufacturers, and all hypotheses were supported. Consequently, it can be confirmed that quality, cost and flexibility for management strategy, and strategic objective perception, support policy, problem solution and knowledge information sharing for delivery and collaboration as small and midsize parts manufacturers are mechanisms for improving quality reliability, decreasing cost, delivery obedience and information system operation of SCM integration, and boosting corporate quantitative and qualitative performance.

  • Due to the evolution of computer systems and the proliferation of Internet, numerous information resources have been constructed. The deluge of information makes the need to integrate information, which are distributed on the internet and are handled in heterogeneous systems. Recently, most of the XML -based information integration systems use XML DTD(Document Type Definition) for describing integrated global schema. However, DTD has some limitations in modeling local information resources such as datatypes. Although W3C's XML Schema is more flexible and powerful than XML DTD in specifying integrated global schema, it has more complex problems in resolving conflicts than using DTD. In this paper, we provide a taxonomy of conflict problems in integration information resources using XML Schema, and propose conflict resolution mechanism using XQuery.

  • In order to maintain high level of control over and close coordination of foreign marketing activities, export manufacturers often consider vertical integration strategy into global distribution. However, full integration is not always a feasible option. The purpose of this study is to investigate the alternative ways to achieve optimal level of control over export channel system for desirable channel performance. This study investigates different options for integration of the vertical channel structure, and examines their effect on the performance. The findings of this study suggest different combination of ownership and coordination level has varying impact upon channel performance: efficiency, effectiveness, and adaptiveness. This implies exporters may achieve desirable performance control over export channel without fully integrating the channel via ownership.
