In this paper, the wrinkling behavior of vertically creased corner-loaded square membranes was studied using geometrically nonlinear post-buckling analysis. The membranes were modeled using shell elements, and the meshes were seeded with semi-random geometrical imperfection to instigate the buckling deformation. A pristine and creased membranes with various initial deployment angles were considered in the analyses and the results were compared. Results showed that local wrinkles initiated near the corner where the higher load was applied, which grew to form a single diagonal global wrinkle as the load ratio increased. It was also found that the local wrinkle initiation and the global wrinkle formation were significantly dependent on the initial deployment angles.
Daily net radiation is essential for heat budget analysis for environmental impact assessment in the coastal zone and longwave radiation is an important element of net radiation because there is a significant exchange of radiant energy between the earth's surface and the atmosphere in the form of radiation at longer wavelengths. However, radiation data is not commonly available, and there has been no direct measurement for most areas where coastal environmental impact assessment is usually most needed. Often an empirical equation, e.g., Penman and FAO-24 formulae is used to estimate longwave radiation using temperature, humidity, and sunshine hour data but local calibration may be needed. In this study, local recalibration was performed to have best fit from a widely used longwave equation using the measured longwave radiation data in Korea Global Atmospheric Watch Center (KGAWC). The results shows recalibration can provided better performance AE=0.23($W/m^2$) and RMSE=14.73($W/m^2$). This study will contribute to improve the accuracy of the heat budget analysis in the coastal area.

The objective of this study is to develop a technique that analyzes the global behavior of frame structures with local cracks. The technique is based on frame analysis and uses the stiffness matrix of cracked frame element. An algorithm proposed here analyzes a frame structure with local transverseedge cracks, considering the effects of crack length and location. Stress intensity factors are employed to calculate additional local compliance due to the cracks based on linear elastic fracture mechanics theory, and then this local compliance is utilized to derive the stiffness matrix of the cracked frame element. In order to verify the accuracy and reliability of the proposed approach, numerical results are compared with those of Finite Element Method for the cracked frame element, and the effects of single crack on the behavior of truss structure are also examined.

Seismic bridge failure due to the combined effects of earthquake and local scour are examined in probabilistic perspectives. The seismic responses of multi-span continuous bridge with deep foundations are evaluated with a simplified mechanical model. The probabilistic local scour depths around the deep foundations are estimated by using the Monte Carlo simulation. From the simulation results, it is found that seismic responses of a bridge slightly increase due to the local scour effect. The effect of local scour on the global motion of the continuous bridge is found to be significant under weak seismic intensity. In addition, the duration to regain its original foundation stiffness is critical in estimating the probability of foundation failure under earthquake. Therefore, the duration in recovering the foundation stiffness should be determined reasonably and the safely of the whole bridge system should be evaluated by considering the scour effect.
Despite its rising labor costs these days, China still serves the role as 'World's Factory' thanks to a great deal of foreign direct investment, still remaining one of the world's highest, and the global companies, which have been willingly establishing foreign subsidiaries in China. While enjoying the benefits from the Chinese market, these global companies can now take advantages of another market; the one of Korea. If a product produced by a certain global company is actually manufactured in the local factory in China and the product meets specifications of Rules of Origin, the product shall receive preferential treatment under China-Korea FTA. In the perspective of global market, therefore, it is found that China-Korea FTA may have negative effects on chemical industry in Korea, which is considered one of the representatives of China-Korea FTA. This study examines such risks by network analysis, with several cases of 'Beauty or Make-up Preparations (HS Code 3304).' Analysis shows that Korea is classified as the marginal country group but not main country group when it comes to beauty products family. So this can be a great chance to the global cosmetic companies with local factories in China in the sense that they can increase their sales towards the market of Korea based on the China-Korea FTA. Under these concerns, this study suggests two policy alternatives for the chemical industry in Korea to deal with current challenges rising from China-Korea FTA. The suggested alternatives are: to actively attract the global chemical corporations which are yet to directly enter the Chinese market; and to invest on chemical products with high potential of growth as a priority.

An optimum design has been performed to maximize specific energy (SED) of composite flywheel rotor for energy storage system. The flywheel rotor is assumed to be an axisymmetric thick laminated shell with a plane strain state for structural analysis. For the structural analysis the centrifugal force is considered and the stiffness matrix equation was derived for each ring considering the interferences between the rings. The global stiffness matrix was derived by integrating the local stiffness matrix satisfying the conditions of force and displacement compatibilities. Displacements are then calculated from the global stiffness matrix and the stresses in each ring are also calculated. 3-D intra-laminar quadratic Tsai-Wu criterion is then used for the strength analysis. An optimum procedure is also developed to find the optimal interferences and lay up angle to maximize SED using the sensitivity analysis.
Ductility capacity is comprehensively studied for steel moment-resisting frames. Local, story and global ductility are being considered. An appropriate measure of global ductility is suggested. A time domain nonlinear seismic response algorithm is used to evaluate several definitions of ductility. It is observed that for one-story structures, resembling a single degree of freedom (SDOF) system, all definitions of global ductility seem to give reasonable values. However, for complex structures it may give unreasonable values. It indicates that using SDOF systems to estimate the ductility capacity may be a very crude approximation. For multi degree of freedom (MDOF) systems some definitions may not be appropriate, even though they are used in the profession. Results also indicate that the structural global ductility of 4, commonly used for moment-resisting steel frames, cannot be justified based on this study. The ductility of MDOF structural systems and the corresponding equivalent SDOF systems is studied. The global ductility values are very different for the two representations. The ductility reduction factor $F_{\mu}$ is also estimated. For a given frame, the values of the $F_{\mu}$ parameter significantly vary from one earthquake to another, even though the maximum deformation in terms of the interstory displacement is roughly the same for all earthquakes. This is because the $F_{\mu}$ values depend on the amount of dissipated energy, which in turn depends on the plastic mechanism, formed in the frames as well as on the loading, unloading and reloading process at plastic hinges. Based on the results of this study, the Newmark and Hall procedure to relate the ductility reduction factor and the ductility parameter cannot be justified. The reason for this is that SDOF systems were used to model real frames in these studies. Higher mode effects were neglected and energy dissipation was not explicitly considered. In addition, it is not possible to observe the formation of a collapse mechanism in the equivalent SDOF systems. Therefore, the ductility parameter and the force reduction factor should be estimated by using the MDOF representation.
This study sought ways to strengthen the competitiveness of local governments using public diplomacy, especially in Chungcheongbuk-do, at a time when it is urgent to revitalize the local economy by attracting investment from domestic and foreign companies due to changes in the global supply chain. The main issues that have recently emerged in the global business environment include strengthening the localization of the global value chain, diversifying reshoring and supply chains, and creating an efficient global value chain through digital transformation. Therefore, this study emphasized the necessity of a strategy for public diplomacy based on these changes, and derived the response conditions and detailed strategies of Chungcheongbuk-do through SWOT analysis. In addition, based on the ABCD model, we set up a Chungbuk-type public diplomacy strategy and suggested strategic implications for upgrading Chungbuk's competitiveness.

Braces are one of the retrofitting systems of structure under earthquake loading. Buckling restrained braces (BRBs) are one of the very efficient braces for lateral loads. One of the key needs for a desirable and acceptable behavior of buckling-restraining brace members under intensive loading is that it prevents total buckling until the bracing member tolerates enough plastic deformation and ductility. This paper presents the results of a set of analysis by finite element method on buckling restrained braces in which the filler materials within the restraining member have been removed. These braces contain core as the conventional BRBs, but they have a different buckling restrained system. The purpose of this analysis is conducting a parametric study on various empty spaces between core and restraining member, the effect of friction between core and restraining member and applying initial deformation to brace system to investigate the global buckling behavior of these braces. The results of analysis indicate that the flexural stiffness of restraining member, regardless of the amount of empty space, can influence the global buckling behavior of brace significantly.
A series of dynamic and static tests were conducted to observe the actual responses of a 1:5 scale 3-story reinforced concrete(RC) frame which was designed only for gravity loads. One of the major objectives of these experiments is to provide the calibration to the available static and dynamic inelastic analysis techniques. In this study, the experimental results were simulated by using a nonlinear analysis program for reinforced concrete frame, IDARC-2D. The evaluation of the degree of the simulation leads to the conclusion that while the global behaviors such as story drifts and shears can be in general simulated with the limited accuracy in the dynamic nonlinear analysis, it is rather easy and simple to get the fairly high level of accuracy in the prediction of global and local behaviors in the static nonlinear analysis by using IDARC-2D.
