  • Graphene is the hottest topic in condensed-matter physics due to its unusual electronic structures such as Dirac cones and massless linear dispersions. Graphene can be epitaxially grown on various metal surfaces with chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes. Such epitaxial graphene shows modified electronic structures caused by substrates. In the method for removal of the effect of substrate, there are bi, tri-layer graphene, gold intercalation, and oxygen intercalation. Here, We will present the changes of geometric and electronic structure of graphene grown on Ru(0001) by oxygen intercalation between graphene and Ru(0001). Using Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy (STS), we observed the aspect that the band gap features near the fermi level of graphene on Ru(0001) system is shifted and narrow. Based on the observed results, two effects by intercalated oxygen were considered.

  • Carbon Nanotube (CNT) have been intensively investigated since they have been considered as building blocks of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Theoretical and computational studies on CNTs have revealed their physical and chemical properties and helped researchers build various experimental devices to study them in depth. However, there have been only few systematic studies on detailed changes in electronic structures of CNTs due to geometrical structure modifications. In this regard, it is necessary to perform systematic investigations of the modifications in electronic structures of CNTs, as their geometrical configurations are altered, using the first-principles density functional theory. In other words, it is essential to determine the true equilibrium structure of CNTs. In this work, we considered the different atomic configurations by maintaining their symmetries, but changing all the inequivalent bonding types one by one. Furthermore, as for CNTs, for example, the way the graphene sheet is wrapped is represented by a pair of indices (n,m) and electronic structures of CNTs vary depending on different indices. Our results suggest all the significant couplings between electronic and geometric structures in CNTs.

  • Comprehensive investigation on the outlet's geometric shapes of a centrifugal blower with higher inlet resistance than an atmospheric pressure is carried out for improvements of its performance. Most unwanted behaviors of such blower are pulsating flows because of unbalance between inflows and outflows in a scroll casing. In order to reduce this undesirable phenomenon a triump is made for both the shape of outlet duct and an accessory structure inserted in the outlet port of the blower. The modification on the shape is concerned with the contraction of cross sectional area and the attached structure is for an intentional obstruction to cause a flow resistance. The details of the modification are examined for different cases and results. The methodologies for the work are performance evaluations including noise level and velocity measurements with PIV Consequently, the performance of improved system is close to that of the system operating with atmospheric pressure at the inlet.

  • Due to the drastic improvement of computer hardware and operating system, it is easy to break through the main defects of limited computer memory and processing time, etc. To keep up with this situation, this paper is focused on developing the preprocessor program with the input method based on vector graphic editor and the preprocessing technique including automatic node generation algorithm for the $\rho$-version finite element program. To develop this preprocessor program, the special data structure and the OOP(Object Oriented Programming) have been used by the Visual Basic 4.0. The Special data structure is proposed to describe the geometric data of node numberings and coordinates suitable for the $\rho$-version finite element program, which are quite different from the comvential h-version finite element program.

  • The integrated system for the structural analysis of space frame is made up 4 modules ; pre-process module, structural analysis module, optimum member design module and post-process module. Re-process module of these 4 modules involves data input module and structure modeling module. This study is to develope an efficient modeling program as a basic for development of pre-process module. This modeling program generates geometric information of space frame and performs the input fie form for structure analysis only by input general data. User can mode1 space frame efficiently within shut time by using this program.

  • This research proposes a finite element method to determine the natural vibration characteristics of the spinning disk-spindle system in a HDD including the flexibility of supporting structure. Finite element equations of each substructure are derived with the introduction of consistent variables to satisfy the geometric compatibility at the internal boundaries. The natural frequencies and modes from the global asymmetric matrix equations of motion are determined by using the implicit restarted Arnoldi iteration method. The validity of the proposed method is verified by the experimental modal testing. It also shows that the flexibility of base plate plays an important role to determine the natural frequencies of the spinning disk-spindle system in a HDD.

  • The soft structure can make large space more effectively, and its construction is easy and simple as well. However, it is not easy to realize this in the actual space. Therefore, two works are needed to be done for effective and accurate construction of soft structures. First, making a working scenario to complete the final objective form; second revising construction errors occurred in the middle of the actual works. These works are called constructional analysis. At this time, geometric nonlinearity should be considered to reflect the sensitivity by the initial stress of flexible structures, constructional analysis comes down to a nonlinear problem after all. This study approaches nonlinear constructional analysis with the numerical method for adjusting stress of cable-dome structures which are a soft structure system, and then verifies it.

  • This paper aims not only to introduce the concept of linear singular systems, geometric structure, and feedback but also to provide applications of the multivariable linear singular system theories to electric circuits which may appear in some electronic equipments. The impulsive or discontinuous behavior which is not desirable can be removed by the set of admissible initial conditions. The output-nulling supremal (A,E,B) invariant subspace and the singular system structure algorithm are applied to this double-input double-output electric circuit. The Weierstrass form of the pencil (s E-A) is related to the output-nulling supremal (A,E,B) invariant subspace from which the time domain solutions of the finite and the infinite subsystems are found. The generalized Lyapunov equation for this application with feedback is studied and finally, the use of orthogonal functions in singular systems is discussed.

  • To find out a correlation between anti-folate activity and physical properties of folate analogues, geometric parameters, dipole moment, net charges, HOMO and LUMO energies were calculated. The electronic properties do not give any correlations with inhibition of folate reductase, but the calculated geometries show some correlations.

  • This paper investigate the optimum thickness distribution of plate structure with different essential boundary conditions in the fundamental natural frequency maximization problem. In this study, the fundamental natural frequency is considered as the objective function to be maximized and the initial volume of structures is used as the constraint function. The computer-aided geometric design (CAGD) such as Coon's patch representation is used to represent the thickness distribution of plates. A reliable degenerated shell finite element is adopted calculate the accurate fundamental natural frequency of the plates. Robust optimization algorithms implemented in the optimizer DoT are adopted to search optimum thickness values during the optimization iteration. Finally, the optimum thickness distribution with respect to different boundary condition
