Effects of sense of humor and optimism on the nursing performance of the clinical nurse in the advanced general hospital (상급종합병원 임상간호사의 유머감각과 낙관성이 간호업무성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was done to explore the correlation among sense of humor, optimism, and nursing performance and identify factors related nursing performance among nurses. A survey was conducted for April 2018 with self-report questionnaire. Participants were 181registered nurses working in three tertiary hospitals. Sense of humor was positively correlated optimism, and nursing performance. Factors affecting nursing performance included educational background, work shift, clinical career. Nursing performance had a positive correlation with sense of humor and optimism. And work shift, sense of humor and optimism accounted for 38.6% of the variance in nursing performance. Therefore, quality management for developing nursing professionalism support for improving nursing performance and sense of humor and optimism . Future research will be needed to clarify the effects of the sense of humor and optimism promotion program on nursing performance.

Affecting Factors on Performance of Preceptors and Preceptees (프리셉터와 프리셉티의 간호 업무성과 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This study was to investigate the factors influencing performance of preceptors and preceptees. Method: The selectees were composed of 27 preceptors and 27 preceptees. The preceptors were given twenty six hours of education and training concerned with theory and practice and then the preceptors mentioned above gave the preceptees vis-a-vis education and training for four weeks. The data were collected through a questionnaire survey of general characteristics, performance, autonomy, empowerment, organizational commitment. The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and the Stepwise multiple Regression. Results: The differences of performance, autonomy, organizational commitment and empowerment were found to have a significance between preceptors and preceptees in preceptorship. The performance was significantly correlated between autonomy, organizational commitment and empowerment of the preceptors and preceptees. Stepwise multiple Regression analysis for performance revealed that the most powerful predictor was empowerment. These variables accounted for 37.7%(preceptors) and 54.6%(preceptees) of variance of the performance. Conclusion: The findings above indicated that the preceptorship was significant as nursing management intervention to increase nurses' performance. Therefore it may be necessary further to develop and apply, such as performance, autonomy, empowerment, organizational commitment in preceptorship.

The Development of an Organizational Socialization Process Model for New Nurses using a System Dynamics Approach (시스템다이내믹스를 이용한 신규간호사의 조직사회화과정 모델 개발)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the problems and relevant variables for effective Organizational Socialization of new nurses, to produce a causal map, to build up a simulation model and to test its validity. Method: The basic data was collected from Sep. 2002 to July 2003. The Organizational Socialization process of new nurses was analyzed through a model simulation. The VENSIM 5.0b DSS program was used to develop the study model. Result: This Model shows interrelation of these result variables: organizational commitment, job satisfaction, job performance, intention of leaving the work setting, decision making ability, and general results of Organizational Socialization. The model's factors are characteristic of organization and individual values, task-related knowledge and skills, and emotion and communication that affects new nurses' socialization process. These elements go through processes of anticipatory socialization, encounter, change and acquisition. The Model was devised to induce effective Organizational Socialization results within 24 months of its implementation. The basic model is the most efficient and will also contribute to the development of knowledge in the body of nursing. Conclusion: This study will provide proper direction for new Nurse's Organizational Socialization. Therefore, developing an Organizational Socialization Process Model is meaningful in a sense that it could provide a framework that could create effective Organizational Socialization for new nurses.

The Effects of Mentoring Functions and Job Satisfaction on Turnover Intention according to Nurses' Mentoring Phases (간호사의 멘토링 단계에 따른 멘토링 기능, 직무만족이 이직의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of nurses' mentoring functions and job satisfaction on their turnover intention on the basis of Kram's mentoring phases. Methods: The participants were 286 nurses who were working at tertiary or general hospitals. Data were collected through surveys conducted between February 1 and 27, 2017, analyzed using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression with the IBM SPSS 21.0 program. Results: The mean mentoring functions score was 3.64 out of 5 points. Job satisfaction had statistically significant positive correlation with mentoring function (p<.05), while turnover intention showed statistically significant negative correlation with job satisfaction (p<.001). Job satisfaction was the only statistically significant variable affecting turnover intention in all three phases p<.001). Conclusion: Nursing organizations may reduce nurses' turnover intention by increasing job satisfaction, which can be improved by developing and applying a differentiated mentoring program according to the nurses' mentoring phases.

Effects of Workplace Bullying, Nursing Work Environment, and Reality Shock on Turnover Intention of Clinical Nurses (임상 간호사의 괴롭힘, 간호근무환경, 현실 충격이 이직 의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between bullying, nursing work environment, reality shock and factors of influence on turnover intension. Data were collected from 381 nurses who were under the charge nurse at a hospital with more than 600 beds in Seoul. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS24.0 program. The mean score for turnover intension was 3.61 ± 0.89. The intension of turnover was correlated with bullying in the workplace (r=0.197, ⍴=.001), the nursing work environment (r=-.409, p=.001), and reality shock (r=.572, p=.001). Variables affecting turnover intension were the work department(β=-0.018, ⍴=.049), working environment(β=-0.424, ⍴<.000), and reality shock(β=0.654, ⍴<.000). The total amount of explanation for turnover intension was 37.3%. The degree of turnover intension of nurses was affected by work in general wards, the experience of workplace bullying and the nursing work environment. To reduce turnover intension, nursing work needs to be analyzed and efforts are needed to establish an effective communication system.

  • This study examined the perceptions of health literacy on inpatient and outpatient patients among nurses currently in the field. The study participants consist of ten nurses working for general hospitals in Seoul and Busan. The data was collected from focus group interviews and all interviews were recorded and transcribed. Data were analyzed by using the content analysis method. Nurses recognized that there was a difference in the patient's health literacy level according to the patient's age, education, income level, underlying disease, and emotional state. This study suggests implementing 1) education programs to increase nurses' awareness of the importance of health literacy, to make accurate assessments of patent level of health literacy and communicate with them accordingly, and 2) support system for patients with poor health literacy.

Impact of Job Stress, Coping Behavior, Hardiness on Burnout in Nurses in the Emergency Department (응급실 간호사의 직무 스트레스, 스트레스 대처방식, 강인성이 소진에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the effect of job stress, coping behavior, and hardiness on burnout in nurses in the emergency department (ED). Methods: Data were acquired via self-reporting questionnaires from 148 nurses in EDs at one general hospital, four university hospitals, and six hospitals with >200 beds. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 23.0 program through descriptive statistics, t-test, analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: A statistically significant difference in burnout was observed with respect to the age of the nurses. Burnout was positively correlated with job stress and wishful thinking and detachment, among coping behaviors, and was negatively correlated with hardiness. Job stress and wishful thinking, among coping behaviors, were significant predictors of burnout and were observed in 14.9% of the nurses who experienced burnout. Conclusion: According to our results, job stress was identified as the most significant factor which influenced burnout in ED nurse's. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and implement educational programs for reducing job stress and minimizing the use of wishful thinking as a coping behavior in order to alleviate the burnout in ED nurses.

The Influence of Human Rights Sensitivity and the Nursing Work Environment on Workplace Bullying Victimization among Nurses in Small- and Medium-Sized Hospitals (중소병원 간호사의 인권감수성과 간호근무환경이 직장 내 괴롭힘 피해에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of human rights sensitivity and nursing work environment on workplace bullying victimization among nurses in small- and medium-sized hospitals. Methods: The participants were 255 nurses from 5 general hospitals in Busan. A dataset was collected using a structured self-reporting questionnaire during the month of July 2018. The data were analyzed with SPSS WIN 23.0 software (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA) using independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Nursing work environment showed negative correlation with workplace bullying victimization. Being a witness to bullying, organizational support, head nurse's leadership, and relationships with peers were found to influence workplace bullying victimization, and these 4 variables explained 37% of workplace bullying victimization. Conclusions: Formal procedures for cases of bullying and improvements in the leadership of head nurses and peer relationships are crucial to reducing workplace bullying victimization among nurses in small- and medium-sized hospitals. Hospital executives' efforts to provide sufficient physical and human resources for nursing services and to improve the welfare of nurses are also needed.

Factors Affecting the Radiation Protection Behavior of Nurses Using the Educational Diagnostic Stage of the PRECEDE Model (PRECEDE모형의 교육적 진단단계를 활용한 간호사의 방사선 방어행위 수행도 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the influencing factors that affect the radiation protection behavior of nurses, by applying the educational diagnostic stage of the PRECEDE Model. Methods: Participants were 167 nurses working in interventional procedure rooms and operating rooms in general hospitals and university hospitals in Korea. Data were collected from August 30 to September 25, 2019, through self-reporting questionnaires and analyzed with t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 25.0 program. Results: The influencing factor that affects nurses' radiation protection behavior was the radiation protection environment (β=.41, p<.001), accounting for 59.6% of the radiation protection behavior (F=17.34, p<.001). Conclusion: Administrative and financial efforts to create a safe organizational atmosphere and establish a safe radiation protection environment are needed. Moreover, it is necessary to develop guidelines for nursing work in radiology to improve radiation protection behavior and reduce nurses' radiation exposure.

Influences of Positive Psychological Capital, Job Satisfaction, and Social Support on Performance of Nurses in Comprehensive Nursing Care Service Wards (간호·간병통합서비스 병동 간호사의 긍정심리자본, 직무만족, 사회적 지지가 간호업무성과에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to prepare basic data for the development of a nursing intervention program to improve nursing performance by identifying the factors affecting nursing performance in an integrated nursing care service ward. Methods: Participants were 166 nurses who had worked for more than six months in the integrated nursing care service wards of three general hospitals located in B city. Data were collected from July 15 to August 30, 2022 using structured questionnaires and analyzed by T-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple linear regression using the IBM SPSS/WIN 25.0 statistical program. Results: Factors affecting the nursing performance of participants were age (β=.58, p<.001), positive psychological capital (β=.41, p<.001), and social support (β=.28, p<.001). The total explanatory power of these variables for nursing performance was 55.8%. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest the need for programs that improve psychological capital and social support while considering nurse's age to enhance their performance in nursing integrated service wards.
