NOx is one of the toxin gases, which is mainly causing the optic-chemical smog phenomena, and decreasing in the function of nose and taste. Especially, NO is easily reacting with $O_3$, and then becoming the $NO_2$. $NO_2$ is mainly causing the acidulation rain. So, we should develop the NOx gas sensing system to detect NOx gas. In this paper, we present the microstructure and the NOx gas detecting properties of the nitrocellulose/MWCNT thin film coated by the air-spray on the glass substrate. The nitrocellulose/MWCNT-based gas sensors have been studied detecting NOx molecules of a ppm-level at the temperature range of $30{\sim}120^{\circ}C$. The resistance of the sensors decreases when the sensors are exposed to NOx gas. As a results, we obtained the nitrocellulose/MWCNT sensors with the sensitivity of 0.6%/sec under the 0.8 ppm of NOx gas concetration. Also, we get the activation energy of 0.202eV from the sensor for the 0.3 ppm of NOx gas concentration.
Indium doped $SnO_2$ thick films for gas sensors were fabricated by a screen printing method on alumina substrates. The effects of indium concentration on the structural and morphological properties of the $SnO_2$ were investigated by X-ray diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscope. The structural properties of the $SnO_2$:In by X-ray diffraction showed a (110) dominant $SnO_2$ peak. The size of $SnO_2$ particles ranged from 0.05 to $0.1\;{\mu}m$, and $SnO_2$ particles were found to contain many pores, according to the SEM analysis. The thickness of the indium-doped $SnO_2$ thick films for gas sensors was about $20\;{\mu}m$, as confirmed by cross sectional SEM image. Sensitivity of the $SnO_2$:In gas sensor to 2000 ppm of $CO_2$ gas and 50 ppm of H2S gas was investigated for various indium concentrations. The highest sensitivity to $CO_2$ gas and H2S gas of the indium-doped $SnO_2$ thick films was observed at the 8 wt% and 4 wt% indium concentration, respectively. The good sensing performances of indium-doped $SnO_2$ gas sensors to $CO_2$ gas were attributed to the increase of oxygen vacancies and surface area in the $SnO_2$:In. The $SnO_2$:In gas sensors showed good selectivity to $CO_2$ gas.
We report the nitrogen monoxide (NO) gas sensing properties of p-type CuO-nanorod-based gas sensors. We synthesized the p-type CuO nanorods with breadth of about 30 nm and length of about 330 nm by a hydrothermal method using an as-deposited CuO seed layer prepared on a $Si/SiO_2$ substrate by the sputtering method. We fabricated polycrystalline CuO nanorod arrays at $80^{\circ}C$ under the hydrothermal condition of 1:1 morality ratio between copper nitrate trihydrate [$Cu(NO_2)_2{\cdot}3H_2O$] and hexamethylenetetramine ($C_6H_{12}N_4$). Structural characterizations revealed that we prepared the pure CuO nanorod array of a monoclinic crystalline structure without any obvious formation of secondary phase. It was found from the gas sensing measurements that the p-type CuO nanorod gas sensors exhibited a maximum sensitivity to NO gas in dry air at an operating temperature as low as $200^{\circ}C$. We also found that these CuO nanorod gas sensors showed reversible and reliable electrical response to NO gas at a range of operating temperatures. These results would indicate some potential applications of the p-type semiconductor CuO nanorods as promising sensing materials for gas sensors, including various types of p-n junction gas sensors.

We suggest CNT-based gas sensors for breath alcohol measurement. The sensors were composed of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) thin film on glass substrate with simple process, and the SWNTs thin film as sensing layer was formed by multiple spray-coating with SWNT composites which was well-dispersed, highly controlled and differently functionalized by various binders (TEOS, MTMS, and VTMS) added in ethanol solvent. In this work, three different SWNTs thin films were made to compare their electrical response properties for alcohol vapor. From fabricated sensors, conductance responses were measured and discussed. In the result, our alcohol gas sensors showed an effective selectivity even at room temperature.
We report on the building of a micro sensor array based on typical semiconductor fabrication processes aimed at monitoring selectively a specific gas in ambient of other gases. Chemical sensors can be applied for an electronic nose and/or robots using this technique. Microsensor array was fabricated on the same chip using 0.6${\mu}m$ CMOS technology, and unique gas sensing patterns were obtained by principal component analysis from the array. $SnO_2$/Pt sensor for CO gas showed a high selectivity to buthane gas and humidity. $SnO_2$ sensor for hydrogen gas, however, showed a low selectivity to CO and buthane gas. We can obtain more distinguishable patterns that provide the small sensing deviation(the high seletivity) toward a given analyte in the response space than in the chemical space through the specific parameterization of raw data for chemical image formation.
The effects of additives on gas sensing properties of $In_2O_3$ ethanol gas sensor were investigated. Gas sensors were fabricated by the painting method. The $In_2O_3-La_2O_3-Pt$ sensor heat treated $400^{\circ}C$ displayed fast response and recovery behavior with a maximum sensitivity to ethanol gas in air at an operating temperature of $300^{\circ}C$.
Breath analysis is rapidly evolving as a non-invasive disease recognition and diagnosis method. Metal oxide gas sensors are one of the most ideal platforms for realizing portable, hand-held breath analysis devices in the near future. This paper reviewed the recent developments in metal oxide gas sensors detecting exhaled biomarker gases such as nitric oxides, acetone, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and hydrocarbons. Emphasis was placed on strategies to tailor sensing materials/films capable of highly selective and sensitive detection of biomarker gases with negligible cross-response to ethanol, the major interfering breath gas. Specific examples were given to highlight the validity of the strategies, which include optimization of sensing temperature, doping additives, utilizing acid-base interaction, loading catalysts, and controlling gas reforming reaction. In addition, we briefly discussed the design and optimization method of gas sensor arrays for implementing the simultaneous assessment of multiple diseases. Breath analysis using high-performance metal oxide gas sensors/arrays will open new roads for point-of-care diagnosis of diseases such as asthma, diabetes, kidney dysfunction, halitosis, and lung cancer.
Nanorod ZnO and spherical nano ZnO for gas sensors were prepared by hydrothermal reaction method and hydrazine method, respectively. The nano-ZnO gas sensors were fabricated by a screen printing method on alumina substrates. The gas sensing properties were investigated for hydrocarbon gas. The effects of Co concentration on the structural and morphological properties of the nano ZnO:Co were investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope (SEM), respectively. XRD patterns revealed that nanorod and spherical ZnO:Co with a wurtzite structure were grown with (100), (002), (101) peaks. The sensitivity of nanorod and spherical ZnO:Co sensors was measured for 5 ppm $CH_4$ and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas at room temperature by comparing the resistance in air with that in target gases. The highest sensitivity to the $CH_4$ and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas of spherical nano ZnO:Co sensors was observed at Co 6 wt%. The spherical nano ZnO:Co sensor exhibited a higher sensitivity to hydrocarbon gas than nanorod ZnO.

As a green and abundant source of energy, H2 has attracted the attention of researchers for use in different applications. Nevertheless, it is highly flammable, and because of its significantly small size, extreme attention is needed to detect its leakage. In this review, we discuss different effects of noble metals on the H2 gas response and performance of metal oxide-based gas sensors. In this regard, we discuss the effects of noble metals, in combination with metal oxides, on H2 gas detection. The catalytic activity towards H2 gas and the formation of heterojunctions with metal oxides are the main contributions of noble metals to the sensing improvement of H2 gas sensors. Furthermore, in the special case of Pd and somewhat Pt, the formation of PdHx and PtHx also affects the H2 sensing performance. This review paper provides useful information for researchers working in the field of H2 gas detection.

Recently, oxide semiconductor gas sensors consisted of n-type semiconductor materials such as $SnO_2$, ZnO and $Fe_2O_3$ have been widely used to detect reducing gases. The advantage of thick-film technology include the possibility of mass-production and automation, that of integrating the sensing element in a hybrid circuit and that of fuctional trimming of the sensor and/or the circuit. which would enable really interchangeable transducers to be prepared. In this paper, we made ZnO and $SnO_2$ gas sensors and investigated the sensitivity to CO gas. Therefore, we compared a ZnO gas sensor with a $SnO_2$ gas sensor.
