  • Player's actions in a game occur in the process of gameplay experiences in a play space designed by the developer according to preset gameplay beats. Focusing on beats that induce a first-person shooter (FPS) game's main gameplay, this paper analyzes the differences in eye gaze information found in different players during the course of gameplay. For this research goal, the study divides the beat areas in which play actions appear in association with gameplay beats at a typical FPS game level, repeatedly conducts tests in accordance with a player's experience level (novice and expert group), and collects and analyzes eye gaze information data in three types of beat areas. The analysis result suggests concrete guidelines for game level design for different beat areas based on an FPS game player's experience level. This empirical experiment method and result can lessen repetitive modification work for game level design and consequently be utilized for optimizing the game level to the developer's intention.

The play experience of social network farm game based on smart phone platform is mainly composed of three modules for cultivating, placing environment, extending space. This study categorized space for external perspective space, internal perspective space, symbolic design space according to space experience theory and researched play experience in these spaces. In farm game players perceive space by fixed point of view, and make their own space a standard unit for reinterpreting and rearranging modules. • Online game business has emerged as the most lucrative entertainment industry, with over 10 million players in South Korea and over 30 million in Japan in 2005. The popularity of online games can be attributed to the availability of broadband network, pushing online games into the mainstream entertainment culture. The age distribution of online game players is expanding and a variety of new games are under development to target certain age groups. While the interactive entertainment market continues to expand, with many new online game publishers entering the Japan, relatively little is known about which factors influence online game players' behavioral intentions to play continuously in this area. This study investigates major factors which influence the acceptance of online game services based on the theoretical backgrounds of the technology acceptance model(TAM) and the flow theory. This paper extended the Davis' TAM model by including the flow concept as another major factor toward the intention to play online game. Based on data collected from online questionnaire survey, we show that the proposed model provides an adequate fit to the data, and that the flow experience is another important factor influencing the intention to play online game, as well as the perceived ease of use.

  • Recently, almost games are using the 3D environment. Therefore, it required strongly that well-structured 3D engine or tools for development of some complicate 3D applications efficiently. In this paper, we design and implement a 3D engine (PLay engine) using the DirectX 9 SDK of the Microsoft corporation. The PLay engine has independent module structure, which has object oriented characteristics. and has not only 3D rendering functions but efficient algorithms. Moreover, we implement some tools what has compatibility with our engine for convenience. Therefore, it helps development of a 3D application easily and efficiently. We also describe each module with 2-layer structure, and each tool with compatible module, and make a simple game using PLay engine for testify.

As a move, the Player combines the mobile media with the game platform. The daily time of the mobile mid-dividualization is reconstructed with the principle of superposition, which affects play experience on the mobile gaming platform. The character of a mobile role-playing game plays a non-integrated play where the player is staying, rather than an avatar character, and exhibits a non-dwelling character as a residential space. Automatic battle also regenerates unused combat forces in the form of explicit integration. The experience of combat in overlapping hours serves as a visual spectacle, and the player inhabits the fighter jets.

  • The Purpose of this study is to analyze the mechanism of permanent death and playing aspects in Rogue-like games. The death in digital game is not only punishment of failure, but reward for player's growth. However the mechanism of permanent death which does not allow to resurrect is critical penalty for players and causes play-cycle with high anxiety. In the mechanism of permanent death, players do critical play to evade the death. But when they replay the game they modify their unethical choices to build alternative game world. Through the mechanism of permanent death which demands critical and alternative play, it could be possible to find the way to design games with serious choice.
