In this study, analytic solution and finite element formulation for the free vibration analysis of thin-walled circular arch, based on linearized virtual work and Vlasov's assumption, including restrained warping effect and second order terms of finite semitangential rotations, is presented. The total potential energy is derived by applying the Hellinger-Reissner principle. In this formulation, all displacement parameters of deformation are defined at the centroid axis. For the finite element formulation, the two node cubic Hermitian polynomials are utilized as shape functions. In special case, potential energy functional of thin-walled curved beam with monosymmetric cross section is derived. From this methodology, analytic solution for the free vibration of monosymmetric circular arch with simply supported is derived. In order to illustrate the accuracy of this study, various parameter studies for free vibration of circular arches are presented and compared with numerical solution analyzed by the FEM using straight beam element.

This paper deals with the free vibrations of horizontally curved beams with the general boundary condition, which consists of translational and rotational springs. The equations of general boundary condition of such beams are derived, while the ordinary differential equations governing free vibrations are adopted from the literature. The parabola as the curved beam's curvilinear shape is considered in numerical examples. For calculating the natural frequencies, the governing equations are solved by numerical methods. The Runge-Kutta and Determinant Search Methods are used for integrating the differential equations and for calculating the natural frequencies, respectively. for validation purpose, the numerical results obtained herein are compared to those obtained from the SAP 2000. With regard to numerical results, the relationships between frequency parameters and various beam parameters are presented in the forms of Table and figures.

This paper is concerned with the application of perturbation method to the dynamic analysis of free-free beam. In general, the rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations are analyzed separately. However, the rigid-body motions cause vibrations and elastic vibrations also affect rigid-body motions in turn, which indicates that the rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations are coupled in nature. The resulting equations of motion are hybrid and nonlinear. We can discretize the equations of motion by means of admissible functions but still we have to cope with nonlinear equations. In this paper, we propose the use of .perturbation method to the coupled equations of motion. The resulting equations consist of zero-order equations of motion which depict the rigid-body motions and first-order equations of motion which depict the perturbed rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations. Numerical results show the efficacy of the proposed method.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of the beam aspect ratio(L/h), hole diameter, hole location and stacking layer sequence ($[0/45/-45/90]_s$, $[45/0/-45/90]_s$ and $[90/45/-45/0]_s$) on natural frequencies of glass/epoxy perforated beams under room and high (40, 60, 80, and $100^{\circ}C$) temperatures for the common clamped-free boundary conditions (cantilever beam). The first three out of plane bending free vibration of symmetric laminated beams is studied by Timoshenko's first order shear deformation theory. For the numerical analyses, ANSYS 13.0 software package is utilized. The results show that the hole diameter, stacking layer sequence and hole location have important effect especially on the second and third mode natural frequency values for the short beams and the high temperatures affects the natural frequency values significantly. The results are presented in tabular and graphical form.

In the present study, a numerical formulation procedure fer free vibration analysis of thin-walled horizontally curved multi-girder bridges is presented. The presented finite element procedure consists of curved and straight beam elements including warping degree of freedom. The homogeneous solutions of curved beam equations were used for shape functions in numerical formulation to achieve good convergence. In the straight beam element, the third order hermite polynomials were used fer shape functions. The Gupta method was used to solve the eigenvalue problem efficiently. The developed numerical procedure was applied to investigate the characteristics of free vibration of horizontally curved multi-girder bridges with varing subtended angle.

The paper describes the vibration characteristics of the mechanical system consisting of a uniform Timoshenko beam with a guided mass and an elastic spring support. The free end of the beam does not rotate and the spring attatched to the guided mass is elastically restrained against translation. The guided mass is assumed to be a rigid body having a finite size, but not a mass point as it has been assumed so far. The effect of magnitudes, rotary inertia and the size of the guided mass on the vibration characteristics is fully investigated by the numerical simulation using FEM and experiment. In order to verify the eigenvalue sensitivity for considered system, comparison exact solutions with FEM is conducted, and a good agreement between two solutions is also highlighted.

This paper deals with the free vibration analysis of beam-columns resting on Pasternak foundation by the Differential Quadrature Method. Based on the differential equation subjected to the boundary conditions, adopted from the open literature, which governs the free vibrations of such member, this equation is applied to the Differential Quadrature Method. For computing natural frequencies, the numerical procedures are developed by QR Algorithm, in which the Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto method is used for choosing the grid points. The numerical methods developed herein for computing natural frequencies are programmed in FORTRAN code, and all solutions obtained in this study are quite agreed with those in the open literature.
In this paper, free vibration finite element analysis of axially moving laminated composite beams subjected to axial tension is studied. It is assumed that the beam has a constant axial velocity and is subject to uniform axial tension. The analysis is based on higher-order theories that have been presented by Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF). In the CUF technique, the three dimensional (3D) displacement fields are expressed as the approximation of the arbitrary order of the displacement unknowns over the cross-section. This higher-order expansion is considered in equivalent single layer (ESL) model. The governing equations of motion are obtained via Hamilton's principle. Finally, several numerical examples are presented and the effect of the ply-angle, travelling speed and axial tension on the natural frequencies and beam stability are demonstrated.

In the present research, differential quadrature (DQ) method has been utilized for investigating free vibrations of porous functionally graded (FG) micro/nano beams in thermal environments. The exact location of neutral axis in FG material has been assumed where the material properties are described via porosity-dependent power-law functions. A scale factor related to couple stresses has been employed for describing size effect. The formulation of scale-dependent beam has been presented based upon a refined beam theory needless of shear correction factors. The governing equations and the associated boundary conditions have been established via Hamilton's rule and then they are solved implementing DQ method. Several graphs are provided which emphasis on the role of porosity dispersion type, porosity volume, temperature variation, scale factor and FG material index on free vibrational behavior of small scale beams.
