  • We present a three-parameter phase shift model whose form is the same as that of Coulombmodified Glauber model obtained from Gaussian nuclear densities. This model is applied to the $^6Li+^{12}C$ and the $^6Li+^{28}Si$ elastic scatterings at $E_{lab}=318MeV$. The calculated differential cross sections provide quite a satisfactory account of the experimental data. The diffractive oscillatory structures observed at forward angles can be explained as being due to the strong interference between the near-side and the far-side scattering amplitudes. The optical potentials for two systems are predicted by using the method of inversion. The calculated inversion potentials are found to be in fairly good agreements with the results determined from the optical model analysis in the surface regions around the strong absorption radius. We also investigate the effects of parameters in the three-parameter phase shift model on the elastic scattering cross sections.

  • Growth and changes of electronically conducting polypyrrole (PPy) in the form of thin films polymerized on metal electrodes were investigated by electrochemical and in situ three-parameter ellipsometry methods at the wavelength of 632.8 nm. Although the optical equations produced multiple sets of solution, it was possible to determine a unique set of thickness and the optical constants of a film by auxiliary measurements and/or physical reasoning. The changes in the thickness and the optical properties of the polymers during polymerization and electrochemical oxidation/reduction was successfully followed by the three-parameter ellipsometric technique. The optical properties of the polymers continuously changed as the film grew. The imaginary part of the refractive index of polypyrrole seemed to be dominantly determined by the existence of an absorption band around the visible range.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for estimating the position of a source in a closed form when a single source has coherently distributed property against a circular array. When a sound source reaches a sensor through multipath environments, it is seen as a distributed source and can be represented by four variables: the nominal azimuth, nominal elevation, azimuth angular spread, elevation angular spread. Therefore, it requires a lot of computation by a search method such as DSPE (Distributed Source Parameter Estimator). In this paper, we propose a method of estimating the nominal azimuth and elevation angle in a closed form using correlation function and least squares method for fast position estimation. In particular, if the source is assumed as Gaussian distribution model, the standard deviation is also estimated in a closed form. In the simulation, the validity of the proposed method is confirmed by comparing with the DSPE.

  • Conley index is used study bifurcation from equilibria of full bounded solutions to parameter dependent families of ordinary differential equations of the form {{{{ {dx} over {dt} }}}} =$\varepsilon$F(x, t, $\mu$). It is assumed that F(x, t,$\mu$) is uniformly almost periodic in t.

  • A chemical process model represented by partial differential equations was studied as one of nonlinear distributed parameter control problems. Using an optimal control theory in the form of maximum principles based on nonlinear integral equations, an algorithm to solve the problem was developed and coded into a computer program.

  • This study was carried out to examine the prediction of ship's manoeuvrability in initial design stage. New parameter representing basic hull form and stem shape were proposed. Captive model test were carried out to investigate the correlation coefficient between hydrodynamic coefficient and hull parameter. The results showed which parameter are positive correlation with hydrodynamic coefficient. Moreover correlation was examined between stem hull shape and ship's manoeuvrability. New empirical formulas for hydrodynamic coefficients were proposed These results can be used to predict a ship's manoeuvrability in initial design stage.

  • A numerical model is applied for predicting two-dimensional beach and dune erosion during severe storms. The model uses equation of sediment continuity and dynamic equation, governing the on-offshore sediment transport due to a disequilibrium of wave energy dissipation. And the model also uses sediment transport rate parameter K from dimensional analysis instead of that recommended by Kriebel. During a storm, a beach profile evolves to a form where the depth at the surf zone is related to the distance seaward of the waterline. In general, the erosion in the beach profile is found to be sensitive to equilibrium profile parameter, sediment transport rate parameter, storm surge level and breaking wave height.
